Crystal clear, balanced red-brown color with a 1 1/2 finger head that slowly fades leaving a continuous sticky lace on the sides. This could not look better.
I'm really trying hard to get a smell here but after repeated sniffs and almost inhaling it through my nose I can only get a whiff of vanilla ice cream. waiting. There's some spicy notes and dark fruit but I'm telling you it's all very well hidden from me.
Taste: Wooo! There should be a six for this one. A vanilla ribbon wraps a butterscotch hybrid toasted barley nut. I am one to choose my words carefully and have issued grammar police tickets to friends and family who use this word wantonly or incorrectly but this taste is absolutely unique. It practically transcends the category but short of that it sets the bar. In a way I'm glad I tried others of this style first because this barleywine will be not the gold standard but the rhodium proof to which all others come woefully short.
It feels full and smooth, creamy in the mouth with a barley ball finish that bounces around your mouth a few seconds before deflating and melting into your tongue.
Despite the ABV the body is just medium and considering the taste, this one could go on and on and on.
I'm going back to the store tomorrow to clear the shelves of this beer for my fantasy cellar. This one will be great for years to come.

Cracked the cap on this with a vigorous pssshhhh. Huge biscuit and honey malts with fruit cake, juicy cherry, and plums. Demererra sugar and honey sweetness are prominent. No alcohol presence in this, and a nice thick chewy mouthfeel. Intense flavors that make for a delicious dessert, but glad I had someone to share the bomber with, as the sweetness could become a bit too much after 12 ounces.
