Served on-tap in a twelve oz. snifter with a small head that faded quickly leaving a little lace. I expected it to be thick and opaque, as I am unfamiliar with the style. Instead it was a pretty copper to brown color and transparent. The bartender must have been experienced because anymore head and I would have felt ripped off given the small glass.
It was served a tad too cold so after an initial sip I patiently waited for about 15 minutes for it to warm. The smell was of ripe fruit, biscuity malts and booze. The flavor was less boozy and more flavorful dominated by dark fruit and perhaps a little bitterness on the finish.
The mouthfeel was thinner and less carbonated than I expected; that is not a complaint, just an observation. It was surprisingly drinkable. I wanted to lick the inside of the glass and order another immediately, but I had to drive home in a rainy, Atlanta rush-hour.
I liked the style pretty well. I had been intimidated by barleywines, but I've come away less so. Still it might be a while before I jump in with both feet.

Cracked the cap on this with a vigorous pssshhhh. Huge biscuit and honey malts with fruit cake, juicy cherry, and plums. Demererra sugar and honey sweetness are prominent. No alcohol presence in this, and a nice thick chewy mouthfeel. Intense flavors that make for a delicious dessert, but glad I had someone to share the bomber with, as the sweetness could become a bit too much after 12 ounces.
