The nose on the beer has sweet dark fruits in it, like plums and raisens. The beer pours a dark copper with a good two finger head on it. Some carbonation as well. The head is off white and has very good retention. It looks pretty god damn sexy. This barley wine starts off quite like an English barley wine with a lot of sugars with a sweet dark fruit taste; then it turns into a big bitterness with piny hops. The bitterness lasts on your tongue too! There is a slight bit of alcohol, but it's not that distracting. The mouthfeel is thick and syrupy, exactly how I like it. Fairly drinkable as well.

2011 keg. 32oz growler fill from Green's PG, poured into a Conquest snifter.
A: Pours a slightly hazy, rich auburn body, with a half-inch of beige head. The head dissipates to just a ring, but laces through the life of the beer.
S: Caramel, and a lot of pine. Way more pine than I would have expected for a 3-4 year old beer.
T: The hops are not as bitter as might be expected from a fresh American barleywine, but they still take center stage here. Lots of pine, then caramel, followed by a little dark fruit mingling with pine again in the finish.
M: Big, lush, without being syrupy.
O: This is a really good, still hoppy barleywine after all these years. It reminds me of how Old Ruffian ages--very well.
