Had this out of a bottle, which I poured into a German pilsner glass. The color is brilliantly gold with a white head of foam.

The aroma is of malt and some hops, but more sweet malt than anything. Also a bit of citrus, which I would guess comes from the hops.

The taste is very good. It is sturdily malty and hops in the finish. It finishes dry. There is a slight amount of bitterness from the hops.

Mouthfeel is good for a pilsner. The carbonation and dry finish will combine to make this on the thinner side, which is not inappropriate for the style.

Overall a very good beer. It is meant to be a multiple beer, good with food or on its own, and sessionable. I think that Lagunitas achieves this, and would recommend it.

A fine pilsner is the palette cleanser of the beer world. You can drink one after almost any other beer, and uncover all of the subtleties it has to offer, and move on to the next style to do the same. The Lagunitas offering pours a bright gold, clear with a thick white head refilled by champagne bubbles. The nose is a crisp hop citrus backed by a mild caramel from the malt. The taste is a refreshing hop citrus. Hints of grapefruit accented nicely by subtle hop flower. There is just a hint of malt on the finish. Smooth mouth feel, very drinkable.

Presentation: 12oz. brown bottle with no "bottled on" or "best before" warning; purchased as a stray single for $1.29 from the Whole Foods on National and Barrington in West LA.

Appearance: Pours a clear gold with a slight, orange tinge; fine, two-fingered, cream-colored head; intricate sheet lacing; very good head retention.

Aroma: Predominantly of grass, citrus and sweet caramel.

Taste: Considerably less sweet than its nose; good, sturdy biscuity malts upfront and thoughout; piney, grassy hop flavors; suitably bittered; secondary notes of grain and oranges; faintly spicy. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel.

Comments: Rather enjoyed this and would happily have it again.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pilsner glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear gold with orange highlights and a 1/2 finger foamy white head. Tons of carbonation bubbles. Nice lacing.

Smell: Light grainy malt with floral hops and light hints of honey, spice and lemon zest.

Taste: Bread flavor up front followed by florals and spices in the middle and ending with bitter lemon zest at the finish. Aftertaste is bitter with just a touch of sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a high amount of prickly carbonation.

Drinkability: High drinkability. You could drink several of these without any trouble.

Overall: Solid beer overall. Not the best in style, but it's worth a try. Another solid offering from Lagunitas.

12 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, bottled 6/18/2012. Pours fairly crystal clear golden amber color with a nice 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention; that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing on the glass, with a good amount of carbonation streaming up retaining the head. Aromas of honey, biscuit, herbal, floral, pepper, pear, lemon, and light earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and decent strength. Taste of pear, pepper, biscuit, herbal, floral, lemon, cracker, grass, and light earth. Good amount of spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, biscuit, pepper, herbal, cracker, and earth on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance of flavors; with no cloying flavors at all. Nicely clean finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a nice crisp and smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice pilsner. Nice amounts of flavor with good balance; and very smooth to drink. Really crisp and enjoyable.

Had on draft at the Frisco Grille, Columbia, MD.

A- Pours a beautiful straw yellow, with a nice thick white head.

S- Mostly hoppy in the nose, somewhat floral.

T- Nice hoppy flavor, somewhat citrusy, without being over the top.

M- Very bubbly, right on the mark for the style.

D- This would make a great session beer. It isn't my favorite American pilsener, but it ranks pretty well.

A very nice Pilsener. This is a very crisp, clean tasting brew with a nicely balanced level of hops. The presentation is what's expected from a regional with clever naming and descriptions of the bottle contents. Poured a very golden color with a thick white head that had good retention. This is a robust Czech style with the emphasis on body rather than heavy hopping. A very enjoyable beer all round.

A: Very clear, gold, fizzy, 2-finger head goes away fast, not much lacing. Looks like it should, really.

S: Wonderful light fruit with a nice strong dose of hops, grainy malt, not toasted or smoky.

T: Bready and has lots of great tangy light fruit behind it. Hops are out front and unashamed to make an appearance. Nice sweet flavor lasts through swallowing, leaving a great aftertaste. Well-done!

M: Rather astringent, makes you pucker. Nice carbonation. A bit creamier than I expected, with a medium body.

D: Goes down really smoothly. Astringence hinders the drinkability a little - even after several swigs I'm puckering after every one. Not bad at all for the style though.

A: bright, clear yellow; one-finger head; good carbonation -- it sparkles!
S: light, sweet aroma; fruity
T: aromatic, herbal flavor that immediately shows what the other industrial-made pilsners should be. Slightly hoppy, to provide the spicing, but the bready malt, with a touch of fruit, offsets this.
M: clean mouthfeel
D: You will likely want another, esp. on a hot day.

This is an ideal pilsner for a beer-drinker who appreciates a hoppy, complex beer. And it may just surprise and educate the pilsner drinker who hasn't explored much further.

Poured from brown 12oz bottle to a pilsner glass. No dates found.

A - Impressive 2 finger white bubbly head. Beer pours a golden yellow clear color. Good retention and lacing.

S - I was less impressed with the aroma as the yeast character was a bit too prevelant for the style though the light floral hop tones are nice as well as a nice toasted pilsner grain character.

T - Better than the nose. The beer is crisp from the get go. Nice. A nice toasted and pilsner malt character with a mild bitterness. More pleasant flavor than I anticipated. Floral and crisp and clean.

M - Crisp and light bodied with good carbonation.

O - Overall, a very good pilsner. I liked the flavor and crisp flavor that wasn't dominated by too much malt. Well balanced.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.

Golden color, nice head, lacing down the side of the glass. Aroma smells like ‘beer’ to me, ‘hops’ to my wife. It’s the smell I associate with a domestic lager. Taste is tart on arrival, and leaves a little malty. Sweet aftertaste. Definitely reminds me of Sam Adams Noble Pils. I could drink a six pack of this in a night!

First beer in my fancy new tulip tasting glass.

A: Aggressive pour leads to two fingers khaki white carbonation. Head retention is moderately high, with nice lacing. Beer itself is a brilliant jaundiced straw. Fairly moderate carbonation.

S: Smacks of honey, caramel, husked grain and a bit of tart fruit. Mild herbal notes detected as well. The grain really dominates the nose.

T: Husked, milled grain are immediately enveloped by grassy, herbaceous notes the translate into a floral, spicy back with a long, bittering finish.

M: A bit fuller in the body than many Bohemian style Pilseners, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. The added alcohol and malts definitely help to balance the increase in hops that this beer gets.

O: Nice Americanized version of the style. Easy drinking, but still packing a good punch of flavor and bitterness.

A - crystal clear golden, short white head dissipated to a thin covering with minimal lacing
S - spicy and grassy, grainy, with a light astringent aroma
T - spicy and with grassy and floral hop notes, crisp clean metallic hint, light biscuit malt, hint of sweetness
M - clean, crisp, and tart just like a pils should be
O - started slow but finished strong, this hints all the notes of a classic czech pilsner, well worth a purchase

A - A fairly active pour yields slightly more than two fingers worth of crisp airy bone white colored froth with a rocky cloud like top... Rock solid retention... Once receded there is a full layer of rich creamy lacing... Loaded with moderate sized quick moving carbonation that rises every which way... The color is an exceedingly pale amber... There is a slight bit of haziness... A bit of lacing clings to the sides of the glass...

S - Orange zest... An array of mild yet enticing noble hops... Bread crust... A very light floral character as well... Simple and a bit understated, but rather enticing and effective...

T - Orange zest... Light airy bready... Some faint cereal grains... A kiss of sweet citrus... Mild European noble hops... Some floral notes as well... Even and well balanced... Slight nuance adds lots of depth and complexity...

M - Clean... Crisp... Refreshing... Smooth... Light bodied... Exceedingly quaffable, almost dangerously so... A slight carbonated bite...

D - This is much more than the sum of its parts... This is a terrific all around beer that doesn't really wow you in a particular facet... I could easily keep this stocked in the beer fridge at all times without hesitation... An excellent offering from Lagunitas and something that I will surely (don't call me Shirley) will return to time and time again... This isn't a seasonal offering, but this is perfect for the spring and summer seasons...

On tap poured into a pint glass

A: straw yellow, 1" head with decent retention, slighht lace

S: grass and flower

T: light malt quickly entinguished with over the top bitterness, grass. Spot on for the style.

M&D: light to medoum mouth, drying. Can do about 5 or 6 and not skip a bit. Does have a slightly more abv than a session. Otherwise it would be perfect for a summer weekend bbq.

PILS pours a golden color with a big lacing head. There is a very balcned but bold hoppy and malty aroma. The taste is same, strong big crisp malts, a strong hoppy flavor. Nice strong flavor, good body. Overall its a very good strong pils.

From a bottle. Pours with good body. White, frothy head that dissipates at an expected rate. Leaves a med-low amt of lace with a white foam top.

Golden color that is straw like and vivid. Clear; bubbly.

S - pilsener malt aroma; small noble hops. No DMS or diacetyl.

T - malty and rich. Low hop taste. Smooth. Some fruitiness but near negligible. Sweet and medi crispness.

M & D - great aftertaste of a czech pils. Malt sweetness that is pleasant. Definitely going to have this one again.

I'm not sure what sort of hops are used in this beer but it struck me as.. hoppy. Very much like an IPA in flavor and mouthfeel. Hardly any aroma to speak of, though it was on the cold side when served; never seemed to perk up as it warmed.
Still very tasty and very drinkable. Quite the lively pilsner was this; a bit of a variant on the style as I don't think the traditional saaz hops played a role in this... it stabs your palate and backs off.
Remind me to pick up a six pack.

12oz into a pint

A - Pours a very clear golden color - lightly bubbly with a bright pearly white head formation. Breaks down to a film quickly.

S - Solid pilsner malt backbone comes through with a fruity hop background. Very smooth.

T - Starts off with a smooth pilsner malt flavor, likely grainy with the tell tale sweetness. A stronger than normal hop base builds up, some smooth floral notes and then gets more bitter and biting. Finishes with a sweet finish that brings it all back into balance.

M - Moderate body, a carbonation profile that aims a little bit low for the style. Finishes with a sugar and sticky mouthfeel.

O/D - Solid drinking pilsner. A little bit potent to call this one traditional, especially by its hefty lean towards the hops. ABV is solid, but manageable.

A good West Coast Czech Pils.

Suprised to find this uncommon one on tap at a BBQ spot in NYC, Blue Smoke. Poured cloudy, medium straw in color, white 1/2 inch tiny bubble head, and displaying well developed fine lacing. Nose of powdered sugar, and bread. This is light to medium bodied hoppy, crisp and refreshing Pilsner. Palate cleansing lager, which went well with the BBQ. Not much of a finish, sort of petered out to wateryness. Servicable sessioner.

Poured a golden color with a nice 2 finger head.. Tiny bubbles in the head.. Stuck around for a bit.

Smell: mild hops, little malty, bready, kind of metallic, yeast, kind of floral with spice notes

Taste: spicy, good malt backbone, hints of yeast.. Finishes smooth with a bite of hop, but nothing sharp.

Creamy mouth with decent carbonation..
Easy easy to drink.. Very sessionable..
