Nice golden color with white head and not much lacing to speak of. Smell doesn't match taste, a little sweet. Hoppy flavor and smooth finish. Good beer sneaky ABV at 6.2% (170 characters)

It does have a slight buttery feel and slightly noticeable yeast like some Czech versions are said to. However, the overall carbonation seems off a little. It has a very frothy head. Not nearly as fizzy/sparkly as I expect. The hop profile seemed a little weak too, which was odd, so I checked the date and found it was a March bottle. That could be most of it. This is good, but it doesnt scream Pilsner to me. Actually one of my 2 least favorite beers from them (463 characters)

Poured with a minimal head, color was a honeyish. The feel was pretty decent. Smell was pretty much non-existent for me and the taste was a little bit too bitter for a pilsner as far as I'm concerned. Not horrible but wouldn't buy again. Was surprised at how highly rated this beer was. I like writing down my scores before clicking on the beer :) (347 characters)

Pours clear straw honey gold with a thick white head moderately retained, smells of biscuity crackery malts slight wheat with spicy yeast and lemongrassy hops, tastes spicely hopped with cool biscuit malts on the end, rich mouthfeel moderate to high carbonation with dry finish. (278 characters)

Appearance: Clean yellow, with a prodigious head of white sudsiness. Lovely and ornate lacing.

Aroma: Delicious malts — toasty grains and hint of citrus hops underneath. Really appealing.

Taste: Crisp and delicious, and very faithful to the style. Tons of flavor here, with sharp malts and hops playing on the palate, none truly dominating the mix. Lagunitas can do no wrong as this is a top-shelf American pilsner. (419 characters)

Similar to the Firestone Walker Pivo Pils just not as good. There is the floral hop flavor/smell, just not as pronounced. Don't expect a malty smooth lager, this one's got some hop bite. Better than adjuncts by a long shot (no grainy sweetness) but not as unique as the Pivo. (275 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

L: Pours a clear golden color with 2 fingers of white head that fell rapidly. Beautiful lacing.

S: Bread and malts... a bit sweet. Mild hops.

T/F: Malty at the front... very doughy with grass and hay. Amazing to say for a Lagunitas beer but not quite bitter enough on the hops. Lacks the bite that the Czech pilseners are famous for. It has a twinge of the Lagunitas brand but more of a citrus flavor than a bite. Nice mouthfeel.

O: Not a bad beer but not a great pilsner if that makes any sense. A little too malty and lacking the crisp hop bite at the end. Tasty though and I had no problem drinking it. If it's from Lagunitas you know it's going to be above average at a minimum. (741 characters)

Pours a orange yellow with a thick frothy head. Darker than i would want a pilsner. The nose is ok. Apricot, yeast, floral hops, strong may presence. Too yeasty and not enough hop presence for my liking. The flavor is too heavy. It's sweeter than i like, and the mouthfeel is much thicker than i look for in this style. (319 characters)

Nothing wrong with the look here. Has that bright gold color and perfect white head when poured correctly from 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Kind of reminds me of how a beer would look in a cartoon. Nice clarity. 2 finger head will hang around until you decide to have your first drink.
Smell is really sweet. Definitely has a really sweet bready smell. In my opinion, this is where this beer falls short. Though this is a characteristic, the bready type malt seems overdone to me. Doesn't make it a bad beer... Just too bready.
Taste is fine. A little bland if anything. Again, bready-sweet. A little bite, but that doesn't make it unique. I've had beautiful pilsners in the Czech republic with more bite. Not bad.
Feel is where something is left to be desired. It just doesn't finish crisp enough... I think again, too much bready malt or not balanced in the right way. Because it lacks that crispness, the bitterness also hangs around a bit too long for a pilsner.
I enjoyed this one enough to kill a six pack easily in one day. Its high on the drinkability scale. I'm just picky about my Pilsners... (1,107 characters)

The only Lagunitas that really needs to be served cold. Full-bodied Pilsner, great for a hot summer's afternoon. Filtered sunshine yellow color, old fashioned "beer" nose, crisp taste. A really nice change of pace after many strong ales and porters. (250 characters)

12 oz bottle purchased from local deli and poured into a stemmed Spiegelau Pilsner glass. Pretty refreshing and would probably pair well with most foods. Currently my favorite Czech or Czech style pilsner. (205 characters)

12 oz. bottle poured into a Libbey pilsner glass.

Look - Golden, light honey in color. Head has lots of bubbles. It eventually settles into the beer leaving some hefty lacing on top and on the sides.
Smell - Lots of malts, hint of hops. Hoppier than what I expected a pilsner to be.
Taste - Buttered crackers, hops that are reminiscent of putting a piece of lemongrass in your mouth. Surprised by some bitterness.
Overall - A good pilsner that has reinvigorated my interest in the style. (488 characters)

A: [4.50] Beer forms a 1 finger frothy white head. The head covers a beer that is a light straw color. The bottle lists the ABV (6%) and the born on code (03/26/15)

S: [3.75] Grass, straw, slight banana.

T: [3.75] Follows the nose but slightly elevated in the banana flavorings. There is a bit of spiciness on the finish nothing overwhelming but a note of it.

M: [3.50] Crisp. Medium to high carbonation feel. No lingering after taste.

O: [3.75] This beer looks pretty in the glass. It forms a nice head that is inviting. The nose seems right for the style and the taste is also in line. This is not my chosen style - but this is a better offering in the category. It is really refreshing and would be better on a dock somewhere. I wouldn't turn this down in the future. (784 characters)

355ml bottle at home from Brewdog Online Shop (£3.50):
Another good Lagunitas beer, it's hard to find a good craft pilsner that truly stands out & while I'm not entirely sure this one does, it's a very nice & highly drinkable beer that goes down easy with a good balance helping it along the way. (297 characters)

Bottle poured into Pilsner glass.

In my search to diversify and expand my palette to appreciate more than the beloved IPA/IIPA, I began sampling craft pilsners. I found Lagunitas PILS to be very enjoyable. A little kick added to the traditional pilsner. And while I consider the pilsner to not be a "complex" style, this has a little bite to it. You do not have to feel guilty drinking before 5PM anymore. Cheers. (419 characters)

Lagunitas Pils certainly looks the part: a clear, light-bodied straw-colored beer with a thick coarse head that leaves a respectable lacing on the glass. The nose is fine, if deceptively malty, but it falls down as a Czech-style pilsner as soon as it hits the mouth. Other than a bit of lagery hops flavors up front and some alcohol and malt flavor notes on the end, strong hops bitterness dominates the flavor of this beer, burying any sort of hops/malt interplay. This bitterness lingers an indecently long time for a pilsner; not the crisp finish that I want from this style of beer. (586 characters)

Look: golden yellow, big fizzy head, great clarity

Aroma: very bready and even a little yeasty on the nose, soft aromas

Taste: very well rounded, soft bready flavors and are complemented by a nice bitterness to curb the sweetness. Very bready flavor overall though.

Mouthfeel: medium body, medium high carbonation, short finish

Overall: A very fine Czech Pilsner. Very soft on the palate, very bready, almost like biting into a fresh, soft loaf of ciabatta bread. Hop bitterness keeps it from being too sweet, and a short finish will keep you coming back for more. This is my favorite American made Czech style Pilsner. (624 characters)

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Crystal clear gold color with crowds of bubbles rising through and a smooth white head.

Smell: Slightly fruity hops, a little yeast.

Taste: Straight into barley, red grapes (I don’t know what that’s from), and well balanced hops. Back end is more yeasty and dry.

Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated and fairly thin. Gives this a very crisp feel.

Overall: I really like it. Subtle (compared to what I normally drink) but still very flavorful and complex. (466 characters)

Bottle poured into a Lagunitas mason jar

A: Pours pale golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a nice layer that hangs around and laces well.

S: Grassy, slightly floral, light malt, and a little skunk.

T: Grassy, maybe a little lemon, peppery, light malt, sweetness and a little alcohol come out as it warms.

M: Light body, moderate carbonation.

O: I'm not much of a pilsner person to begin with, but this one really doesn't do it for me. If I'm gonna drink something that's 6% I'm gonna go for something with a little more going on. (557 characters)

L: Pours brilliant amber gold under a clingy 2” frothy white head.
S: Not much aroma – primarily hops with pilsener malt in the background. No fruit.
T: Big malt flavors up front lead to a bitter hop accent on the finish. The bitterness is rounded and not harsh.
F: medium body and above average carbonation.
O: a solid representative of the style that is easy to drink and widely distributed. (401 characters)

12oz bottle into a solo cup.

A: Pours a vibrant clear straw with a 1/2" bone-white head that recedes somewhat slowly & has decent retention. Not much for lacing.

S: Cereal & grains, there's that definite Czech pils-y note & a touch of subtle hoppage. There's just a hint of euro-lager funk present as well.

T: Cereal, graham cracker, a bit of raw hop-bitterness that fits for the style, soap & grain.

M: Solid. Carb is moderate & plays nicely off the slick, malty body.

O: I almost always prefer German-style over Czech-style pils, so there's some bias here. All-in-all this is a solid, drinkable pils that stays comfortably within itself. I like this brew 'cause it doesn't overreach. (700 characters)

Definitely not a contender for a Czech style pilsner. Lacks the refreshing crispness of a good pilsner. Nondescript and a bit too sweet. I'll take a Pilsner Urquell over this any day. (183 characters)

Fantastic example of this style. Amazingly done, has the hop punch that you are looking for in a fine pilsner. If you live near CA you are lucky to get it even fresher. If you love the Czech beers seek this one out, I am a huge fan. (232 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a Pilsner glass.

A: Dull golden yellow. Awesome clarity. Three fingers of rocky white head display excellent retention. Lacing clings in stubborn foamy globs.

S: Sweet doughy and bready pilsner malt aromas and a whiff of toasty grain. Touch of sulfur. Maybe a bit metallic. Grassy and herbal/peppery hops.

T: Sweet bready, doughy, and grainy pilsner malt lays down a sturdy backbone. Hops start out soft and floral, but soon show a keener edge with grassy and herbal flavors and sharp bitterness. Hint of sulfur within. Alcohol is just barely perceptible as it warms. Trailing grainy flavors and punchy hop bitterness on the finish.

M: Medium-light body, though it has a substantial round, full, and almost chewy feel. Sharp carbonation accentuates the hops a bit more.

O: This beer impresses me more than perhaps any other in the Lagunitas arsenal. It's a complete departure from anything else they brew, and they nailed a solid Czech pilsner recipe. It's maybe a hair bigger than is the norm, but otherwise it's stylistically on point. Not to diminish their great IPAs, but this is a tougher style to execute and bring to market, especially when the focus of the brewery is on American IPA styles. (1,231 characters)
