I have been brainwashed into believing that the only true pils comes from the Czech Republic itself, where their water lead to a unique and suitable product. Having said that, this interpretation of the style is interesting if not surprising heavy. Heavy in carbonation and bloatedness mostly. Saaz hops, malt aroma, enoz saltz composition. Light colour with some cloudiness.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

Pretty clear gold, hay color. Good sized head able to form but doesn't stay too long. Some lacing left towards the top of the glass. The smell is just light malt, I was expecting some hops to be showcased but nothing really. The taste is of mainly bready, cracker type malt, the hops are very subtle. Sweet, slightly tart, and the mouthfeel is definitely light and smooth. Not harshly overcarbonated like I've come to expect from some lagers or pilsners in the past. It doesn't pack the most flavor but it goes down really well.

This is my 300th review on this site! 400 here I come.

A - Slightly hazy rusty-gold brew with a 2 finger white head. Some decent lace sticks to the glass.

S - Spicy saaz nose with a tight malty backdrop. White pepper, clove, and salty sea air. Spicy and refreshing scent.

T - Really spicy and peppery on my tongue. Clean crisp hop profile with mandarin orange, orange rind, and floral notes. Tasty and assertive, but it's a bit too spicy for my taste...that's good for the style though, so no points taken off.

M - Full bodied, nice sedate carbonation pairs well with the citrus and pepper.

D - This is, admittedly, not my cup of tea. That said, this is a really good example of the style that leans towards the spicy saaz hop side of the fence. A damn good brew.

A dark amber, almost copper color, slightly hazy. 1 inch head quickly receded to a white ring leaving gobs of sticky lacing behind.

Some caramel malt and a hint of spicy and almost pine-like hop noted in the aroma…

Quite malty in it’s initial flavouring. Hop comes on quickly afterward and I found it to be a bit too citrus-like for my liking. Almost more like a typical APa in it’s colour and hop than a pils IMO.

Quite smooth, almost creamy considering the bitterness of the hop used.

An OK beer…I’m sure it has it’s boosters stateside…I’m probably going to pass on purchasing another.

Served in a pint glass

Served really cold, almost too cold, but had a nice thin head that slowly dissolved. Poured a golden color.

Smells citrisy, and some floral aromas. I can tell there is going to be some hops coming along.

Tastes nice and crisp upfront, a slight hop kick and an extremely bitter finish. Very understated upfront but the bitterness at the end makes this one a little difficult to finish. Needless to say I had a second one. Still a very good beer with a kick, not boring at all.

Bottle. This was a surprise for me. I am not sure what I expected but the beautiful color (sort of a gold with a hint of orange), big white head, and gentle hop and malt odors get you off to a good start. Easy going down, with no bad tastes at any point. Very easy to drink. This is a very good pilsner in my opinion.

Poured into a Warsteiner glass.

Nice thick white head about 2 fingers worth.Golden body with TONS of carbonation bubbles racing to the top of the glass.Body is very clear and looks very inviting.Something you would see on a Macro beer commercial.Sporatic lacing on the glass.

Some hop smell and bready malts.Smells very clean.

Sorda strong for a pils in my opinion.Bitter hops coat the sides of my tongue. The taste is sorda funky. Some sweet malts also in there. Some lemon in there also.

The carbonation isnt really that attacking like some pilsners and the mouthful is a bit thin.

This beer aint bad but nothing I would buy again.Im glad I only have a 6 pack of it and not a full case.I would recommend it but I wouldnt have it any time soon.

Bottle at the Mundelein beer tasting. Clear and yellow with a thin head and brisk carbonation. The smell is super-light-- maybe some light malts, but no Saaz (or any other) hops.

Someone put a Michelob in my pilsner bottle.

Tastes like an all-malt pale lager, and not a very good one. There is no Czech pilsner character at all.

Mouthfeel is thin and highly carbonated. Drinks like a macro.

Not a great style example and not a great beer.

Pours clear wonderful dark gold with a soapy, rocky head that sticks around for ages.

Smells like weeds, pils grain, and a light hop. Very much an American pils, not a czech, but certainly not an adjunct. Nothing nasty about the flavor whatsoever. Very clean

Tastes like sunlight, a cornfield, light sugar, and very light, dry, European hops. Very nicely balanced, very light and crisp.

An above average example of the style. Not the up and down malt-to-hop explosion of Victory's, but close.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pilsner glass.

This brew poured a very clear straw honey color with a medium head. Lacing was a medium to minimal, while carbonation was very high throughout. Smell is very weak of citrus and a bit of banana. Nothing very powerful at all in terms of odor. Taste is very bready with a bit of lemon and butter. Mouthfeel is very clean and crisp. Would love to have this on a warm summer day. Balance is a bit off because of the extreme carbonation, but drinkability is definitely there because it's so light and refreshing. For sure a session brew.

Pours slightly chilled hazed deep golden with a thin head that becomes a lasting thin cover.

Smell is of sweet grain, slightly biscuity. Faint, light hops.

Caramelish/honeyish sweetness upfront. A touch of spiced hops - not the expected Saaz or Saaz-like grassiness. Leans more sweet than dry, though in-between. Clean, but lacks the crispness that I look for in the style. Hops can hardly keep up with the malt sweetness.

Light to medium bodied - some flavor hangs on.

Drinkable? Sure. Forgettable? Sure. Not too bad, but misses too much of what I look for in a pils.

Poured clear pale gold with a big white head. Aroma was understated, a bit of sweet malt and grassy hops. Taste is a bite of hops and some sweet malt with a bitter aftertaste. Not terribly complex and a little too heavy for a Pilsner I think.

A solidly average beer.

A: Light amber color with a fluffy 1 1/2 finger white head that sticks around decently well.

S: Biscuity malts and apple juice.

T: Enjoyable. I can't say it exactly hits the mark for the style, but it's tasty. Nice bit of a hop bite (with some carbonation to back it up). Lemony sort of flavor. This is followed by those biscuity malts, with a touch of apple juice. Not quite as focused and cleanly sharp as the classic pilsners, but all in all not bad.

M: For a pilsner, relatively thick body with decently high carbonation.

D: Would make for a pretty good session beer.

Not the most amazing of beers, but overall it's still a good beer.

It has a very nice golden/coppery color. Has a small head when poured.
Has a slight sweet fruity aroma, with a hint of malt.
Taste is very similar to smell. Definite malt over hop flavor. Very clean taste, almost no after-taste.
Carbonation is minimal. A little heavier in mouth feel than water, but not much.

Poured a brassy orange color with a solid finger of ivory head that was quite crisp. Aromas were sweet breads and toast with a hint of herbaceous bitterness.

I got a biscuity taste with a leaning more towards the sweet malt side of ripened fruit. Not overpoweing, but present. This one was crisp on the tongue and nevertheless refreshing.

A: Yellow, little carbonation, good head that broke with no lace. Average.

S: Hops are light, so is malt. Nothing special.

M: Watery, yet ...watery some more. Very little aftertaste,

T: Was this indeed a glass of water? There were some mild hops to speak of, and alcoholic twinges, otherwise, well this was above average in flavor compared to BMC but not much else.

D: Nope. Not enough of that pils flavor to even be passable in my book.

Pours clear golden yellow with a pillowy white head and mild lacing.

Aroma is mild hop and citrus. Grassy and sweet.

Taste is much more robust than expected. Surprisingly malty with generous floral hop spice. Bready, nutty, with hints of honey. Finish is crisp. Lingering floral hop and lemon zest.

Mouthfeel is quite thick and full for a pilsner.

A tasty brew. I find most pilsner to be rather lifeless. However, this one is full flavored with an interesting character. Excellent bready malt and floral hops. Flavors are balanced and unified. A great Czech pils that I will return to again. Recommended.

The beer pours a gold color with a 1/2" white head that quickly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a malty scent that boasts of pale and Munich malts along with a slight hoppy aroma. The malt aroma is a bit much for a Czech pils which are usually a bit lighter in character. The taste is decent also. It has a rich, pale malt flavor that goes down easy, but not as easy as it should. It is a full bodied beer, when most are traditionally low bodied and a bit hoppier in the flavor and aroma. This is a good drinking beer, but it's a bit out of style.

Pours a bright golden orange, with brilliant clarity. Fizzy two finger head settles to a cap of rocky foam showing good retention, and leaves weak spotty lacing. The malt owns the aroma of Pilsener malt and dextrin; some German hop tones in the background. Flash of sweet lager malt followed by a sharp Pilsener mate bite, and finally a very faint toasted nut/buiscuity flavor. Semi-drying aftertaste, the spicy and floral Saaz hop is in effect here, both in flavor and bitterness. It balances the malt, but falls short of grabbing your attention the way a true Czech/Bohemian Pils should. Light-ish mouthfeel with high-medium carbonation, seems to draw some depth and texture from the full malt profile. Finishes clean, with only mild residual malt and fading noble hop character. A great drinker, but could be disapointing if you were looking for a classic Pils. This would be outstanding if the hops were as rich as the malt.

This beer pours a hazy gold with a thin head. Not as much carbonation I would expect, but I'm not overly familar with the style. Aroma is slightly grainy with a twinge of hops. Kind of like a macro lager but with noticeable hops. Taste is a nice light maltiness followed by nicely balenced hop bitterness and flavor. The hops are slightly citrusy and herbal. This is definitely a solid drinkable beer, great for a party or to introduce to non-BAs.

12 oz bottle poured into a stange glass. This beer pours a clear medium gold color with lots of little bubbles rising up. The nice white head was at least 3 inches thick when poured. One of the biggest heads I have seen in a long time. It settled to a good 1/2 inch thick a few minutes about 10 minutes after pouring and stuck around for quite awhile indeed. Leaves some fairly nice lacing too. Aromas of malt and grassy hop are strongly present, not much else though. Tastewise, the malty sweetness is definitely present up front followed by some grassy hops and a hint of lemon and some vegetables. Not too shabby. Has a somewhat crisp and smooth medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Very easy to drink in the way that beer should be.

This beer poured into a tall pilsner glass was a nice golden orange color with a thick creamy white head that subsided into a nice light creamy coating and left decent lacing. Visually a fantastic pils.

The smell was pretty good, a mix of lemon, light hops, and a touch of semi sweet malt.

There is a nice semi sweet strong malt structure upon tasting this pils, which is quickly evened out by the nice grassy and lemony hops with just a touch of coppery twang. One of the more flavorful Pils I have come accross.

Mouthfeel is light and a bit sticky.

Overall a very easy to drink and tasty Pils, maybe the best I have ever had.

I was hoping for a nice crisp pils as I have respect for Lagunitas and while this beer was good, it wasn't nice a crisp. The malt profile was bland sweetness at first that warmed up to bready pilsner malt. There was also just a hint of grassy hops. Sure its inoffensive and tastier than your average macro pils, but this is nothing to rejoice over.

Pours a bright golden color with decent carbonation and a very small, creamy white head that diminishes quickly. Nice, crisp aroma of spicy saaz hops, light pilsner malt, and a touch of Euro yeast. Palate is a little heavier on the malt than most pilsners, indicating maybe a heavy use of carapils malt. Assertive, spicy hop profile smacks of saaz and other noble hops. Body is somewhere between creamy and foamy, depending on how careful you are with your sipping. A nice, easy-drinking pilsner.

I've had many a pilsner here in the United States and in Germany and I was VERY inpressed with this beer. When I poured it into my pilsner glass, I got a perfect head and the most beautifu cascade of bubbles swirling up from the bottom of the glass that I have ever seen. It look just like to BMC commercials do except THEIR beers don't behave like that. Even now, 15 min into my beer , it is still cascading to keep the head alive.

Te aroma was very Czech like, the hop aroma was very european. Classy & clean.

I was worried before my first sip that the carbonation would be to much, but it was perfect... very nice mouthfeel. Great body to the beer and the taste was crisp clean and super refreshing. I know that those are all the cliche's that you always hear, but this time it was absolutly true.

This is my favorite pilsner and I highly reccomend it.

Another homerun Lagunitas!!!
