This is definately an above average pilsner but nothing really special. I love lagunitas but they should stick to their specialty - hops!
It's golden. It smells like a very tasty pilsner, not a regular pilsner. It tastes like a very hoppy malty pilsner, which isn't really what a pilsner shoots for but it's pretty decent. It feels great in the mouth and is pretty easy to drink and enjoyable to imbibe. Overall this is a pilsner worth a try but isn't really all that special compared to some others out there.

Mucho Gracias to BeerRun13 and NC Lotto BIF for the pleasure of imbibing this brew.
Pours a golden orange color with a 1/2" white head that fizzes away rather fast. Little lacing and lot's of carbonation.
Smell is of faint fruity hops and a cloying sweetness
Taste is briefly sweet up front but the hops steal the show. Herbal spicy and tangerine come to mind. Maybe some clove.
Mouthfeel is heavier than some other pils I've had. Can feel the carbonation on the tongue.
Drinkability is good. Has a bitter buttery aftertaste that kept this score from being higher.
Overall a good pils and a decent beer.

This one pours clear golden if you leave the last quarter inch in the bottle. okay, knowing what it looks like, pour the rest in the glass. A nice white head provides some okay lace.
Malty aroma with a barely noticable hop aroma.
Tastes much like the aroma suggests, but a bit of hop bitterness comes through as well as some flavor.
Light bodied with a smooth finish.
Drink up. This is one of a few non-macro Pilsners I've had, and I now I'm really starting to see what it's supposed to be.

Gold color with a slight amber or ruby hue. Nice aroma of those Saaz hops I believe it is that are so prevalent in the Czech style. These guys have it down pat though as this beer is so much smoother and more drinkable than a Budvar, Pilsener Urquel, Staropramen or any of the others I have tried. I'm sure if I were in Prague, there would be plenty of competition. It is still an impressive example of the style from an American brewery. Lagunitas seems to put out quality in almost all their styles.

Tasting notes --breaddy and biscuitty --nice malt upfront very pleasant hop finish -pleasantly carbonated --good mouthfeel--this is an excellent pilsner.

Pours golden yellow with a nice full finger white head that melts to a ring of lacing which stays with the whole drink.
Aroma is faintly biscuits and saaz hops...mild and pleasing.
Taste is initially lightly citrus hops....a little biscuit malt...then back to the light bite from the citrus hops....again, very pleasant.
Aftertaste is drying citrus....a little lemony...mostly just citrus...nice bite with a surprising slight sweetness yet still a nice drying.
Very, VERY drinkable....this one goes as nice as SNPA for drinking all day long.

Clear gold with a bronze hue topped by a fluffy white head. Decent retention, a bit of lacing. Crackery, fresh grain aroma with spicy saaz and a bit of fruity hops. Medium bodied, malty flavour with moderate bitterness and quite a lot of spicy hop character. Light dryness with a bit of spicy tingle in the finish. Crisp and refreshing, with moderate carbonation. Pretty good, about what I expect from Lagunitas. It's got a nice hop depth to it as well.

A - Clear golden with a solid little bright white head that lingers.

S - Smells of wheat and peas.

T - Quite hoppy. Too sour for my tongue. Srong carbonation keeps it lively though.

M - Pretty strong mouthfeel for the style. Seems to pack more flavor than other pilsners I've tried.

D - Good "hot day" drinker if you don't mind the over the top hops.

Lagunitas Pils
12 oz brown bottle
Served in a pilsner glass

Pours a light golden color with a really nice looking head. Thick, frothy, rocky head on top. Nice patterns of sticky lace on the side of the glass.

Whiffs of freshly baked bread, yeast and hops.

Grainy, bready flavor with a juicy malt profile. Bitter, snappy hop finish. Strange buttery mouthfeel somewhere in the middle.

I can't tell exactly what it is about this beer that doesn't sit well with me. It might be the yeast or the water used? It reminds me more for of a German style pilsner than a Czech pils.

Enjoyable, but there are many other domestic pilsners that I prefer over the Lagunitas Pilsner.

Alright, I'm finnicky about my Pils; I was skeptical about this one, but I just had to add it to my sampler 6 pack at Hi-Time.

The bright yellow body pours crystal clear, with an explosive head that mellows to somewhat more than a rim after a couple minutes. Smells crisp and floral, with hints of lemon and a slight metallic tinge. The taste is solidly malty, crisp yet full, and the Saaz hoppage is right on the money. Slight floral taste with a clean, stiff bitterness to round out the sip. There's something about the malt character, though, that's just a touch off -- a bit of toasty, New Belgium character that I wouldn't expect in a pils. Still, that's very slight and aside from that this is a great, drinkable beer.

This beer was served in a pub glass.

Appearance: The beer pours a nice hazy golden yellow coloration. The head was a frothy off white coloration. The head was very short lived. No lacing remained on the glass.

Smell: The beer has a predominately citrus hop smell. There is a strong caramel malty smell to the beer.

Taste: The beer has a upfront earthy citrus bitterness. There is a pleasing caramel sweetness to the beer.

Mouthfeel/ Drinkability: The beer is light bodied. The beer has ample carbonation. The beer is a very easy to drink. I enjoyed this beer from start to finish.

Bright, somewhat hazy with a solid, fluffy white head on top. Low aroma-more or less says "beer". Very non descript. Mellow, sweet malt flavor. Nice slight touch of bitterness. Has the delicate softness in the flavor you will find in a classic pils. Decent enough mouthfeel. Good beer-I would try again.

Pours a clear gold color, thin off-white head, lots of active carbonation bubbles, no lacing. Nose is a nice simple bready malt with some slight grassiness. Taste starts out with a fruity malt, mainly apple, and then rather abrubtly ends with a strong grassy bitterness. Medium bodied with a moderate/high carbonation. Overall, this is a decent pils, but nothing special.

Golden yellow, effervescent, creamy one finger head. Smells alive and hoppy, resinous. Taste is maltier than expected, husky, but dead ends quickly into a rather herbal hop flavor with a sourish, odd, and longlasting aftertaste. The more I drank, the less I wanted to. The aftertaste was hard to get rid of, and haunted me for a few hours afterward. I tend to like a good pilsener, but this didn't do it for me, to say the least.

This darkish yellow pilsner pour with a nice, white head. The aroma is redolent of grasses and wildflowers. The taste is clean and refreshing, with some sweet malt notes coming out on the tip of the tongue and Saaz bitterness on the back. Overall, the taste was clean but not terribly interesting. I'm not a huge fan of pilsners, but I've had a few that manage to be true to the style, clean and refreshing, but also interesting. Sadly, this beer isn't in that mold. Outside of a smooth and crisp mouthfeel, there's not a heck of a lot to recommend this. There's nothing at all to NOT recommend it either; it's a fine beer. Just not terribly interesting.

Hazy dark orange, I might have let some of the sediment make it through, with a medium head, ultimately leaving a ring and some broken islands of bubbles. Smell is bready malt, bakery sweet, but no hop presence. Mild, clean malt hit at the beginning turning soon to a crispy bitterness. A little rough in the finish, but nothing overpowering. Light bodied, but not crispy enough to be memorable. Easy to drink, nothing to refuse. Try it if you like the style.

A little cloudy, greenish straw color. Nice head and lace.

Crisp and clean smelling, but light on the aromas. Nice pale malt notes, very little hop. Slightly grassy.

More hop on the flavor, but this beer doesn't have the smoothness of the famous ones. Very strong hop aftertaste. Rich body given the style, relatively low carbonation. This seems to be closer to a pale ale than a delicate pilsner.

A bold beer. If you like in your face brews, this will be a nice choice. If your looking for a pilsner that is floral, flavorful but delicate, seek out Pilsner Urquell or Brooklyn's Pilsner.

12 oz brown bottle, no freshness date, served in a Pilsner glass.

Pours a murky golden straw color. The head is quite thick, even with a gentle pour, and lasts a good long time. The head is an off-white color. As it dissipates, it tended to clump in the middle of the glass, making small islands of bubbles. Very attractive for a pilsner.

Smell is strong on the fruity esters, with a little sweet malt rising up. Clean and fresh, and more interesting that some others I've had.

Tastes good. Fruits are heavy up front, again with the sweet malts sitting in the background waiting. The bitterness make its presence known in the aftertaste, but isn't very strong. A nice balance. As the brew warms a little, it actually smoothes out some, the hops becoming less bitter and the fruitiness becoming more subtle. I sipped at this one slowly so by the end it had reached nearly 75 degrees (room temp here) and by then the fruitiness was overwhelmed by a spicy alcohol taste. Mouthfeel had far more body than most other Pilsners I’ve tried.

A really nice Pilsner, and another great introductory brew. I would personally serve it at ten or so degrees above fridge temp, where the flavors seem to be more subtle, which ups the drinkability pretty darn high.

Good football beer - I've been drinking this every Sunday while watching the Niners play.

The pour is very inviting - a deep golden bordering on orange with a thick pure white head. The meringue like foam dies down in time but leaves a sheet of lace along the glass.

The nose is pretty light with a hint of fresh citrus and some noble hops almost as if someone had handed you a glass of hopped up lemonade. The taste is rather full for a Czech style Pilsner - lots of grain notes like lightly toasted bread and an almost corn-like (I said "almost"!) cereal note. The hops have a somewhat floral note and while they don't add a whole lot to the flavoring it certainly adds to the bittering.

Mouthfeel is good for a light ale but not what I'd hope for in a Pilsner. It's a medium bodied brew with a somewhat oily feel. The carbonation isn't enough to clear the palate between sips but the bittering does dry out the drink nicely.

A nice drinkable lager but not quite the light refreshing Pils I'd hoped for.

Pours a cold hazed deep golden Pilsner with an off white head.

Smell is a little sweet and malty with a faint honey odor. Lesser scents are a good aroma of grain and faintly spicy noble hops and a bit of flower nectar.

Taste is a little sweet with a fairly stout herbal hop punch in the finish. Hops bitterness has a fairly long lingering aftertaste. Good basic Pils taste clean mildly malty and a good strong hops bite.

Mouthfeel is good.

Extremely drinkable beer. Tasty and mild mannered with a go shot of hop bitterness, recommended.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear golden yellow with a fluffy white head that rettains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is floral and slightly spicy german hops (which always smell kind of corn-ey and skunky to me).

The flavor is sweet grainy malts that lead to a sharp hoppy, bitter finish that is a little metallic. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some sharp carbonation.

Overall, an above average pils (not my favorite style). It's much more bitter than I'd expect.

I've been happy with this brewery so I couldn't pass up the czech pils. 6 pack of 12oz bottles.

Poured into a pounder glass it is golden color with a meaty ivory head that laces all the way down with a thin layer of goodness.

I picked up hoppy/saaz, even slightly floral, right off the bat. malts were subdued and more of a filler. light fruitiness mostly orange. perfect carbonation. tasted the yeast I've come to expect in this style but this was lighter in that department and more of a hopped up spicyness that was enjoyable and easy on the palate. Crisp mouthfeel that finishes moderately dry. Not the thirst quencher nor the session beer that one might expect this has some characteristics that make it more compatible with a meal than a session. A very respectable offering from Lagunitas.

Pours from a 12 oz'er with a thick frothy pillowy ivory head cap loaded with golden hay and rising bubbly carbonation. Impressive drippy lace improves the appearance.

Scents of some delicate red apple and grainy pilnser-esque honey grass.

First swigs: Soda cracker grain with a delicate honey touch and hops are drying in the finish. Medium sweetness and clean finish towards the finish.

Feel is well carbonated with a pinch of tongue coating.

Last swigs: Grounded pilsner that does not stray far from the mark.

Beer is good. Happy beering.

I've really been digging this style recently. I've definately come to appreciate the refreshing crispness of a nice zesty pilsner, and this one didn't disappoint. Pours a clear and bubbly blonde with some straw coloring and a pinky of white head floating atop. Smells of nice mellow Czech malts and a dusty hop smell. Taste is more pronounced than in the smell and does not let you down. I love the way pilsners are hopped - spicy, dusty, floral, herbal... just downright zesty. This one also had a nice pine characteristic which I think must be a west coast twist on the style. Very interesting, but not overdone. Very subtle. Lightly sweet grainy malts back up the hops perfectly, excellent balance. Smooth, crisp, mouthfeel. Again, excellent. And I find pilsners to be super drinkable, especially in hot weather, so drink em while you can!

A bottle of american micro brew made in the traditions of Chechvar and Pilner Urquell. Pours nice clear golden like a good pils should, smell is light with that distinctive Czech fragrance. I always have loved the flavor of a Czech style lager and this one is no different. If anything it seems bit crisper than the traditional pils but maybe it is just a fresher beer since California is not as far as the Czech Republic is from Portland. Overall a very good, drinkable beer, a "real" alternative from american pilsners while watching a hockey game or hanging out with friends on a summer day. This is a beer I could drink any time.

By the way I reviewed this beer as a particular style, It seems that pilsners tend to get rated lower due to their lack of complexity or their closeness in relation to macros. Even in the world of Pilsners Czech style is a bit different from everything else out there.

Crisp; perhaps that’s the best way to describe this pils. Nice gold color suitably carbonated but it produces a poor head. Excellent grainy malt flavor but balanced very well for an American pilsner. Kudos for Laguntas for making a solid pils in California!
