Pours crystal clear golden straw colour with lots of light fluffy head.

Nose is subtle. Malt, biscuit, and a tiny bit of citrus hops.

Taste follows nose very closely. Quite smooth. The hops at the end distinguish this Pilsner from others I've had.

A good refreshing beer.

A- Crystal clear pale golden pour out of the stubby 12oz bottle. A white head fills the glass at about two fingers high with a thick, frothy texture. Good head retention as a large pillow and ring result. Spotty lacing at the top but not much else.

S- Pale cracked grains and a bit of zesty, spicy hops but not all that much of anything overall. General lager yeast hints but that is fairly clean too.

T- A fair amount of malt flavors open up for me with a profile of biscuit, cracked Pilsen grains and cereal. Hops lend herbal, spicy and slightly zesty character but fail to really shine.

MF- Light-medium bodied with a crispy and foamy feel on the palate. Carbonation is close to high and contributes to the foaminess. Finishes lightly bitter.

Nothing bad going on really but also not much going on at all, somewhat impressive for 6.2%. Neither the malts or the hops are intriguing enough to bring the beer from decent to good.

A: crystal clear; light gold in color - SRM 4-5; 1 finger white head that receded to an uneven thin cap; light lacing;

S: well balanced; toast; a surprising bit of molasses for such a light beer; earthy, musty hops; no diacetyl;

T: soft; well balanced; the breadiness of the yeast is more pronounced; hop spiciness is most noticeable at the finish; malt influence is lighter that in the aroma; no diacetyl;

M; light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation; medium dry;

O: very smooth;

Golden carbination poured into right glassware leaving fluff of foam. Soggy cereal scent seems too overpowering. Tastes of malt hoppy pilsner was not too appealing at first. Temerature was not low enough. Overall not my favorite choice for pilsner.

Pale golden color under a thick, fluffy white head. Aroma has a quality warm Pils malt character topped with spicy hops, floral, grass, and crackers. Flavor is similar, leaning towards the malty side, though there is a nice leafy Saaz hoppiness and a bit of lager yeast. Medium-light bodied and crisp. This is always a pretty good bet for a solid drinkin' beer. They nail the malt character pretty well, though I wish the spicy hop was a little more potent.

Very decent Pils. A tiny bit on the malty side but good bitterness and nice smooth finish. Not as aggresive as some of the other offerings from this brewer but still well made and will not disappoint. Seems to me it would make a good hot weather beer.

Pours a finger of head on a clear golden body.
The aroma is dry grain. Nice.
The taste has a good lemon, slightly metallic, bitterness throughout.
The texture is crisp.
It's a solid pils.

Large foamy head with good retention and lacing. Pale golden body. Moderate carbonation.

Clean piney hops. Mild bready malt.

Well done! Clean and refreshing. Mildly sweet. Hops are clean and not overly bitter. Hops taste of pine and citrus. Malt body is mild and sweet. This beer is balanced. The flavor is good and it is easy to drink. Good quality.

Lots of carbonation. The body is borderline between light and medium. Goes down smooth.

An excellent beer. The price is high but so is the quality. One of the best Pilsner lagers. Pairs well with steak or chicken.

PILS pours a golden color with a big lacing head. There is a very balcned but bold hoppy and malty aroma. The taste is same, strong big crisp malts, a strong hoppy flavor. Nice strong flavor, good body. Overall its a very good strong pils.

Lagunitas Pils
12oz, code unclear

Pours a crystal clear straw yellow. Small foamy head, average lacing. (3.5)

Aroma is spot-on for the style. Earthy Saaz hops, pleasantly sulfury yeast note. A bit muted and oxidized/old, limiting high marks. (4)

A lot of pilsner malt on the flavor. Cracker, hay, blonde biscuit. Not overly sweet, but not enough hops either. Some spice, earth and grass from the hops. Clean overall, no hints of the pils-killer diacetyl or its cousin acetaldehyde. Mouthfeel is spritzy, medium-high carb. (3, 3.5)

Good stab at the style, just needs a hair more bitterness and hop flavor, maybe a bit more attenuation. ABV is a bit high at 6%. (3)

Appearance: Crystal clear light yellow. Big lasting head. Great lacing

Aroma/Flavor: Pils malt and a slightly above average spicy/grassy hop aroma. A touch more malt sweetness that I'm used to in the style.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, fairly crisp and refreshing.

Overall: Does well to convert the BMC crowd. Not overly grassy and astringent with the Saaz as to turn them off.

Really like this one. Poured beautiful, nice thick head that stayed and had good lacing. Beautiful clear yellow/white foamy head

Aroma is very mild, background hops, some malt…I think just right for the style

Taste is crisp and refreshing, again just the right amount of hops….they did a great change up and showed the respect to the form needed.

Mouthfeel is fairly light to moderate, but the finish is more than expected. Just enough bitterness to show the roots of this style.

Overall, I will look to Lagunitas again…this was my first beer from them, and I really enjoy it when the American Craft brewers put effort into Pils, and other lager types. Well done!

Poured from a chilled 12 oz. bottle into a lager glass.
Color: light golden.
Lots of head -- 3 to 4 fingers which takes a while to settle leaving behind complex lacy patterns. Not much aeration after pouring.
Aroma: light hoppiness and some fruitiness (surprised by the latter).
Taste: Hoppy but not too hoppy. Subtle slight bitterness. Fantastic introduction to Pilsners if you've never had one.

Okay, this beer is good but a little rough around the edges. First, the head is great, long lasting and sticky. Shows great lacing on the glass. The pilsner glass is filled top to bottom with the residual from the head. Aroma is decent. Getting a lot of hops up front, malts are non-existent. Nice golden hue. The taste is a little rough. If you like a lot of bitterness from your pils, you cant go wrong with this. I prefer a smoother pils for my palate. If they toned down the bitterness, i would have scored this beer higher. Not much to knock on this beer. A decent take on a Czech pils. At this price there are better options. Another point for this beer is the alcohol content, 6%. Does not take too many of these to get trashed. This beer is the party animal of the pilsner world. It says F U to the rest, i'm doing things my way. Its the rebellious child you cant control. I would definitely get again if i want a pils that's hardcore and to the point. Nothing hidden on this one. Good pils!

Poured into a canned shape glass because I don't have a pils glass. Fail.

The body is a beautiful transparent golden color. Trickles of carbonation are visible. The head is foamy, pale white and full of bubbly suds and lace. 4.25

A pungent yet earthy hop aroma hits the nose. There's biscuity malt, cracker, and floralness. 4

Sweet and bread-like initially, then a burst of zesty, floral hops make an entrance. Straightforward and good.

Sweet like I mentioned, with a medium-body and average carbonation. It's pleasant to drink. The finish is bitter in a tame and non-offensive way. 3.75

This is a good easy-drinker. Seems pretty true to style. I could drink a sixer of this on a summer day easy. 4.0

This is my go to Pilsner . The all around flavor, ice cold during the summer, this is like the pils I treat myself at the end of a warm summer day during a BBQ. Top Pilsner in my opinion. No need to break down the flavor for me. It's just good. and that's my review.

Trust Lagunitas to nail the Pilsner style. Doughy, bready malts with an all to dominate Pilsner malt aroma. The flavor is fuller than most in this style with a grainy, malty texture, and great dry Pilsner malt taste. The feel is very crisp and Light but it has that fullness than you don't find in many lagers. Lagunitas keeps doing right!

BOD 111/14. Clear golden pour with exceptional head, lacing and retention. Nice nose of slightly sweet biscuit over hops that have notes of spice and tropical. Light medium body that manages to be almost slick in texture. While it appears to be well carbonated (bubbles), it fails to effervesce on the finish in a lively fashion, hence it is normal carbonation level. The flavor profile has some complexity and is well balanced, unfortunately it doesn't scream saaz hops. It begins with a slightly sweet spice that flows into mild bitterness. The middle has a tropical rind like citric note. The finish is biscuit with a low level lingering bitterness with notes of spice. Very good, but not quite outstanding.

Serving: Bottle into pint
Served: 23 July 2014

Appearance: Pours a marvelous, crystal clear yellow color with a nice deep golden quality to it. Carbonation coming up from the bottom makes this one look great. Pours with a one finger, bright white head and leaves appreciable lacing.

Smell: Sweet malts and some spicy noble hops.

Taste: Too sweet! This is not a half bad beer by any means, and is indeed one of the better exemplars of craft lagers that I've had, but I find this brew to be far to sweet for a pils. The hop profile is very similar to SN Summerfest, which also has an appreciable amount of spicy noble hops, but unlike SN, this one has next to no appreciable bitterness. Since bitterness is one of the main facets of the pilsner style, I reluctantly must decrease my taste rating. Should Lagunitas someday address this and use more bittering hops, this would be one of the finer craft lagers available. Beyond sweetness, the beer has a slight bready flavor and the noble hops add some good flavor. Unfortunately the sweetness of the malts tend to overpower both.

Mouthfeel: Good body and perfect carbonation.

Overall: This is a beer that should be rated higher than it is, if it wasn't for the overwhelming sweetness of the malt. Aside from that, the beer is pretty good. And is something I'd recommend for those looking to get into craft lagers.

Sampling right now on 7/21/14. Bottles chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a tall weissber vase glass. Alcohol content is right at 6% (ABV).

Pours a bright pale gold in color with a good 2-finger white foamy head that lasts a good while. Lots of lacing is seen, some in rings even. A good amount of bubbles streaming up from the bottle of the glass. The aroma is mostly of malt and yeast. Much more going on with the taste as it is hard to pin point besides the malt and yeast. Starts out sweet then ends with a slight bitter finish. Not to hoppy though. Crisp and full-bodied. Overall, not a bad brew at all!

12oz bottle served in a pint glass
Bright pale gold in the glass with a frothy head of large bubbles. The smell is very malty and a bit yeasty for not at all the bright clean aromas that I'd expect from a pils. Giving it another sniff reveals a bit of grassy hop but nothing all that distinct or punchy. I have no idea what's going on in the taste of this one. Very malty with a lot of caramels and biscuit flavors overall a bit sweet with only a touch of bitterness from a bland hoppiness that barely serves. I find that I'm having a hard time getting over how sweet this beer is, however, the sweetness does fade in the finish which is rounded out by some bitterness that lingers for a few seconds. Generally this beer is a little slick and probably not carbonated enough for the style although it could just be weighed down by everything else going on in there. Overall its ok, but I can't say that I'd recommend it.

This is a very good pilsner!
If you can get one, I would very much recommend it. It's wonderful.

There's a mostly naked, hot, thin red head female next to me and I can tell you that she likes this beer too, so that's saying something. It's not always that you can really say that about too many beers, ya know? I mean, really, how often have you read a review of a beer here on this fine web site that said a mostly naked, hot, thin red head gal is diggin' the beer?

I can't find any reviews talking about mostly naked girls here anyway - let alone red heads.

The Lagunitas Pils is a friendly afternoon beer. It has a similar hoppy profile true of many Lagunitas beers, but has it's own frothy flavor.

Color and appearance are top-notch. Great smell upon opening the bottle.

The taste is hop-driven with a lot of balance. It's more traditionally american-style beer with a lot of west-coast indications. Obtuse label, low-price, piney hops, and not much malt flavor. It is not a beer that sticks in your craw -- the taste quickly dissipates and requires more beer application.

Good solid beer. Worth investigating.

Recommended with disc golf, bocce, gardening, rock-skipping, softball, outdoor concerts, beaches, open windows, loud stereos (suggest at least a six-pack for any of the above).

Poured from a 12oz bottle. Beautiful crisp light yellow color with a thick head about two fingers length and dissipates slowly. Head retention is strong and sticky lacing coat the glass. Pours absolutely beautifully.

Aroma was hard for me to pick up. Grass notes prevalent, but really couldn't get anything else. It does smell fresh though, which is good. Taste is crisp and clean. Light and smooth. Easy to drink and all around enjoyable. Had this after a long hot day and it just hit the spot. This is a simple, straightforward, and well-executed pilsner.
