2016 OneHitter Series. This big boozy blonde was brewed with a boatload of oats, giving it a creamy, sweet mouthfeel with a hoppy blast. It's like a powdered sugar doughnut topped with deliciously bitter, danky resinous hops. Chow down!

never thought the description fit this beer very well, powdered sugar doughnut? no way, this is on the dry side for an ipa this strong, and its indeed got some bitterness as the name implies, didnt age well, coagulated and whatnot, but very few hoppy beers without wild yeast do, so to be expected. at its peak its creamy and full bodied, palate coating even but not because its sweet. light amber color, decent white head, short of fully clear, looks fairly normal for being a decidedly strange beer in this imperial ipa space. lots of alcohol in the nose, no surprise, some almost generic maltiness up front too, which us unexpected, oats dont smell like too much i guess, a little honey, a little earthy cereal character, and the resinous hops that come across a little bit like a less over the top waldo, not way different, i suspect some simcoe and mosaic in here but i dont know what they use for sure, some pine, some resin hit, some hash oil, clean lemon too, appealing and big. the flavor is similar but there is a lot more from the oats here, must be some toasted oats, has that nuttiness to it, enriching without being too decadent or anything, sort of agricultural, even a little woody, they are a lot more apparent in taste than smell, but even with the cool grain base for a beer thats not a new school hazy, its the hops that stand out the most, fresh and fruity, less weedy than they smell, they are in every corner of my mouth riding this grain wave. definitely drinks like an american barleywine, especially with some age on it, not stupidly bitter to me, even at temperature, but definitely stupidly alcoholic, even when its cold. good but also weird and not my personal favorite...

From the 22oz bottle to an Nonic glass
Drinks like a TIPA. Big boozy blonde is right. This one is not shy with the alcohol smackdown. Pours a hazy golden orange hue with a healthy stack of khaki foam. Very familiar Lagunitas hop bill; it's dank, pine, and mild citrus-grapefruit.
Mild malt graininess. This one has a bit of alcohol sting for sure. That said, everything kept failry well balanced by the creamy oat texture and resinous hoppy finish. Hope to see this brew again some day. Lives up to the One Hitter series.

Lovely clear copper/gold with beautiful lacing. Bready and fruity in delightful balance, like a fresh grapefruit scone with mango jam. For me, the creamy mouthfeel from the oats puts this one well into the category of an American Barleywine, and a very fine one it is!
Update: pulled another one of these out of the cellar tonight; sadly, it’s the last. I didn’t mention cellaring in the original post, but this one has been in the cellar for 29 months, so the original must have been around 24. And it just keeps getting better and better. Succulent fresh bread and golden fruit. It’s a superior American Imperial IPA/Barleywine. I’m adding a few points.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Lingering white foaminess clings to the glass nicely. The smell had some bitter piney and citrusy hops playing with a subtle caramel malt base. The taste was pretty much the same with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Quick dry finish. On the palate, the oats help to smooth things out a bit and add a nice semi-slick to creamy feel on my tongue. Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good DIPA that I could see myself having again.

2016 One Hitter Series
Poured into a goblet a very nice dark copper color, very nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger tan head, which leaves some pretty nice small islands and sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some nice hop notes, slight citrus, and some spiceyness. The taste is very nice hoppy, malty, with some nice citrus going on. Full Body, ABV hidden very well, nice complex brew. Overall, a very tasty brew, very barleywineish style.

A: slight haze; deep gold in color; 2 finger khaki head that receded slowly to a thin cap; nice, long lasting lacing;
S: pine resin, tropical fruit, and caramel;
T: follows the nose with pineapple getting added in at the middle; mild to moderate bitterness on the finish; bitterness sticks around well into the aftertaste (which is all pineapple); boozy, but appropriate for the style and ABV;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish;
O: a BIG beer; very nicely done; didn't get much oat character;
