Poured from a bomber into a snifter at around 50°F
Appearance: I prefer my imperial stouts to be motor oil thick and black, but this is not. Thin pour with a mahogany tent when put up to the light.
Smell: Coffee is definitely the dominant aroma. Brown sugar and maybe a little chocolate.. I don't know if it's just me but I get some pepper as well.
Taste: coffee with brown sugar and maybe some peppers thrown in. Not enough roasted or chocolate malts for my personal taste, but hey, it called Cappuccino Stout.
Mouthfeel: It's very thin for an imperial stout, but smooth and drinkable for 9.2% abv.
Overall: After enjoying heavy RIS's throughout this harsh winter, this stout seems a bit subdued in every aspect. And considering how much I enjoy Lagunitas' other offerings, I was a bit letdown.
*The Smuttynose Robust Porter I had after this, at 6% abv.,was more robust than this beer in every way, shape, or form. This was a forgettable imperial stout for sure and will stick with their hoppy beers from now on.
