Poured from a deuce-deuce (22 oz. bottle) into a beer glass.
Appearance: Beer is mahogany with deep ruby highlights, nearly opaque. Head is foamy as a cappuccino would be...moderate lacing on the sides where the head has receded. Not bad.
Smell: Caramel malt is very strong in the nose, just a touch of coffee-like scent involved. Light, if any, hops.
Taste/Mouthfeel: Ooooh, this is a good one. Very creamy, definitely fits the "Imperial Stout" category. An ever-present milkiness to the beer, with a tremendous chocolate flavor palette. The maltiness is perfect, heavy without being overpowering. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, almost like pure dark chocolate.
Drinkability: Good. I could only drink the one bottle, I think...perhaps I might even cork it and save the rest for later. Super, super tasty beer.
I am pleasantly surprised by this one...I'm going to have to get a few more bottles to share with friends!
