Poured very dark, with a stable, tan head, as should be expected of any stout. Smelled of roasted coffee and malts, which is sure to trigger a Pavlovian response in most habitual coffee drinkers.

It's definitely not very heavy for a stout, but it makes up for that with its bold flavors. It tastes more of coffee than any stout or porter I've ever had, and it may have given me a little caffeine rush. At the same time, it wasn't overly bitter or acidic. The malt added a nice amount of sweetness, and I wasn't overwhelmed by the "muddiness" which can be a characteristic of both stouts and certain varieties of coffee.

Overall, a nicely balanced beer.

This should be a winner with any lover of good coffee and strong beer. Felt like drinking a big, alcoholic Italian mocha.

I like to start my day with a good cup of coffee and end my day with a good pint of beer. It doesn't take much to realize why I'd be drawn to a drink that combines both! If you like coffee and you like beer...well, I don't need to justify this do I?

This is a limited release from a brewery that has loads of limited releases. Needless to say, based on prior Lagunitas experience (IPA, IPA Maximus, Kill Ugly Radio (a tribute to Frank Zappa), Censored) I just knew this one would be good.

It pours nice and dark and slightly syrupy (it weighs in at 8.3% ABV so its not going to be a low alcohol stout if thats what you're thinking). It has a great smell to it...almost like a coffee liquor. This brew uses Columbian coffee from "Sebastopol's own Hard Core Coffee". My guess is that Hard Core Coffee has some damn good coffee!

The taste is slightly bitter, like a shot of espresso, with a nice malty finish. Perfect for a coffee stout that is this strong. This is a great beer for a very, very cold winter night here in New England. I'd say it goes better with our winter weather than that of its homeland!

Thanks Lagunitas for once again making another awesome beer.
