Pours almost black with a rich tan head. Good looking beer.

Aroma is awesome. Like a Founders breakfast stout with a splash of Dark Lord. If you haven't had those, then it's coffee, roasted grain, a hint of soy sauce, some alcohol, molasses, a bit of bittering hops in the back, and perhaps a bit of cocoa.

Flavor is good, but not like the nose. Bittering hops balance with some molasses, chocolate, and roasted grain bitterness. The finish is lightly hoppy, the sweetness lingers just a bit along with the roasted character, and a fairly notable alcohol note comes in.

Carbonation is medium low and mouthfeel is just a bit thin for my taste, albeit reasonably chewy for a stout. Finish is very slightly astringent and warming.

The alcohol presence in this one cuts down on the drinkability a bit, but certainly well worth a try.

As with all of the other Lagunitas offerings, a very good beer at a great price.
Ive only had one other beer in this category, and that was at about three times the price for a bit more flavor and aroma.
I poured from a bomber into a generic, probably stolen, pint glass, and took in what I expected, a dark, almost purple black color, with a very light head.
The flavor matched the aroma, not everpowering, but with a hint of malt and a hint of coffee. While it obviously cant be tasted, the caffeine was there, as I had no problem drinking the bomber and staying up well past me bedtime, all in order to watch Tina Fey make her return to SNL. The beer was better than the episode.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter.

Appearance: a black color that is rather light on the thickness with a small tan head that fades ad leaves spots of lacing.

Smells: a light coffee note with a sweet roasted malt base and a beautiful hop aroma.

Tastes: a milky sweeter stout with a light roasted malt and lighter coffee hints. There is a significant hop note that I adore in this beer.

Mouthfeel: this is a smooth coffee stout that has a mild carbonation despite the head and the abv. just under 9% it is amazingly quenching.

Overall: I personally feel that this is one of my favorite coffee stouts and at $6 for a 22oz bottle I honestly feel like its a steal not just a score.

Poured into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Didn't pour out as dark as I had hoped, and once in the glass it's completely transparent. Body is deep blackish-brown in the middle and reddish-orange around the edges. A small, tan, foamy, head formed immediately, but it dissipated to a thin halo just as quickly. No lacing.

Smell: Espresso, caramel and burnt sugars, and sweet cream. Possibly chocolate too. The espresso is strong, but not overpowering; all of the components meld together nicely.

Taste: Big-time cappuccino, cola, and heavy roasted malt. The flavor is roasty throughout, but it really kicks it up a notch in the finish: very bitter and very smoky. Nice.

Mouthfeel: Thick and full with a rich, long-lasting aftertaste. The carbonation is such that the beer feels very creamy, luscious even. In my mind, this is the perfect feel for an imperial stout. I can't find any flaws.

Drinkability: Other than the appearance, this was a very good beer. Share it with a friend or drink it on your own, but beware of the alcohol content - it's hidden very well.

A - Poured dark brown, with red highlights, that produced a tan head that retained ok and left a little lace around the glass

S - Good coffee/chocolate mix, subtle malts

T - Black coffee, roasted chocolate malts

M - Slight carbonation, with a moderate body

D - A good Imperial Stout that burst with coffee flavors, but doesn't offer a creamy mouthful like other stouts
