The look is not quite as dark as your typical stout. The nose reveals expressive scents of cocoa, coffee, and vanilla bean - I like it a lot. The taste is dominated by coffee and dark chocolate with a mouth-feel very much like that last sip of a strong cup of coffee with just a few grounds in the bottom of the cup. I'm really favoring stouts at the moment and have to say this is definitely one of the better ones I've tried. (429 characters)

Surprisingly good considering the rating.
L: Almost as good as any coffee stout that I've had with a little thinner head
S: Coffee very present which is a good thing
T: Just a tad on the bitter side but not sweet as expected
F: A little thin but not bad
O: I'm a big fan of coffee stouts and this is not far behind great ones like Jackie O's Java the Stout, Founders Breakfast Stout/KBS, Beer Geek Brunch and Peche Mortel. Overall very surprised considering the relatively low rating. I will get this again. (510 characters)

Dark, cola like, good head on pour that doesn't last well. Deep notes on the smell. Tasty stout, nice mild spice from the coffee flavors on the aftertaste. First stout from Lagunitas I've had in a mason jar, not bad presentation overall. (237 characters)

Pours pitch black with a lace of head. Smell is quite sweet with coffee aromas. Very dry and very bitter. Goes down surprisingly easy. Overall, this is a top notch imperial stout. (179 characters)

Poured the bottle into a pint glass. Serious head and lacing, very light tan. The color is a deep, deep brown. This bottle is just big enough and just dark enough to make you feel inadequate. The flavor is outstanding. Just the perfect amount of roasted malt, smoke, and coffee. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Quite possibly the best coffee stout I have had. (359 characters)

Poured from a 22oz. bottle.

A: Pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tint when held to light. Head is one finger of mocha color that dissolves quickly into a thin layer that rests atop the brew. There is some lacing especially through the first few sips.

S: Coffee, dark chocolate, dark roasted malts, and subtle notes of earthy hops.

T: Cappuccino, bitter-sweet dark chocolate, dark roasted malts, vanilla, toffee, and some earthy hop bitterness on the finish.

M: Medium to full bodied for it's style, mild carbonation, smooth and creamy with a pleasant ever so slight bitterness at the finish.

O: I really enjoy this beer. It makes a great complement to breakfast or a great late night semi-sipper. The nose leaves some to be desired but wow is the taste great. I recommend this one to any fan of the style especially considering the $5 price tag. It always has a place in my heart come winter. (903 characters)

This has a nice and frothy head, but a fairly thin body. The nose is domestic yeast, dark malts, and coffee. This stout has a full body, but is not thick or sticky. The taste gets bitter from the hops and a nice flavor from the added coffee. I will also mention this really needs to warm up. This stout is defiantly better as it warms.

This is a great shelf stout, which cannot be beat for the price (around six bucks). I do not think I would cellar this, but I will buy when I get he chance. (493 characters)

Great brew. Amazing coffee aroma with a bit of sweetness. Flavor holds the "cappuccino" title. Creaminess and a hint of vanilla if If my judgement is correct. (158 characters)

Having expected better from Lagunitas, I don't understand why this is rated so highly. It simply doesn't compare to the best in its category. I'd rather drink a Founders Breakfast Stout, any day. (195 characters)

22 oz brown bottle

Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout filled my snifter with a very dark brown almost black color. Atop sat a 1-finger beige head that sank quickly to form a ring of light foam. The aroma, as expected is dominated by dark roasted coffee. The flavor is all about dark roasted malts. Espresso coffee, chocolate and burnt toast come to mind. The mouth feel is medium-full to the thick side, rich, and light-creamy. Carbonation is just right.

Overall, if you like coffee you will like Cappuccino Stout...Oh, great value too. Nice job Lagunitas! (558 characters)

From a bottle into a snifter

Pour is a dark brown with 1 finger of thick kaki foam. Foam fades leaving streaky lace in the glass. little carbonation

Smell is sweet and malty. Not too much aroma here.

Taste is much better than smell. Nice roasted malts and bitter sweet chocolate with some dark roast coffee and vanilla

Feel is average taste fades quick for suck a heavy beer. Flavors coat well bit I would love for them to last a bit longer.

Overall a sold beer (469 characters)

Pours exceptionally dark black. Tan frothy thick head with fantastic lacing thru out. Smells sweet and malty. Taste is phenomenal, little bit of bittersweetness with hints of coffee and malt. Not to boozy for a higher abv stout. Actually perfect. Expected nothing less from Lagunitas. Bravo! (291 characters)

Appearance- Mostly black in color with a very dark brown hue as well. Pours a thick four finger width head that is tan in color.

Aroma- Coffee, vanilla, roasted malt, and milk chocolate.

Taste- Coffee bitterness is present at first and into the finish. The coffee gives way for moment to vanilla and chocolate flavors which balance out the coffee and roasted malts nicely. The finish sees more coffee bitterness along with the coffee/vanilla sweetness.

Feel- Medium/ full bodied, creamy, medium carbonation.

Overall- Pretty much nails everything for a coffee stout with big roasty coffee flavors, but enough sweetness to balance it out. Definitely in the ball park of the likes of an FBS, but not quite as good. For the price and quality this is a great beer. (771 characters)

22oz bottle into a tulip

A: Opaque black with some browning on the edges, an overly aggressive pour yields 3+ fingers width of tan head that has excellent retention before dissipating down and leaves tons of lacing. 4.25

S: Tons of coffee plus semi sweet cocoa. Roasted malt, cream, some oaky herbaceous notes. 4.25

T: Coffee bitterness, roasty, oaky, cocoa, cream. 4

M/D: Medium body, carbonation on the higher end and is a bit much for the style IMO, ABV is very well masked, drinkability is good. 3.75

O: Very good beer. Lagunitas is such a solid brewery. 4.25 (575 characters)

Poured into a tulip glass it is a dark dark amber brown stout with a beige head. Smells of chocolate, coffee, and sweet cream. Taste is a creamy roasted exspresso with a slight slight bitter at the end, it has a full mouth feel and a great smooth flavor. (254 characters)

Served on tap. They poured it too cold, so it had no head and no smell until I warmed it with my hands. The flavors were exceptional and changing as it warmed. Mouthfeel creamy and smooth, a reel delight. A real coffee lovers dream. I'm going to find in bottles so I can try at proper temp. . (295 characters)

On tap at Oliver's in Madison, Wisconsin. Served in a tulip glass.

Pours a medium brown body, lighter than expected, but otherwise nice one finger brown head, fair retention time, a bit of lacing. Smells of pure espresso and black coffee; hearty roasted coffee beans and milk chocolate. Flavour is bitter espresso, darker chocolate, a bit of lactose, roasted malt. On the more bitter side compared to the nose. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, mildly slick and easily drinkable. Good carbonation, plenty of roasted coffee on the finish. No hint of the 9.2% ABV. Overall, very tasty coffee imperial stout that is generally a very good deal considering what Lagunitas charges for their bombers. (688 characters)

Agree with most that its more of an espresso stout than a cappuccino one. Overall a balanced stout considering its almost 10% ABV and quite flavorful. Great deal for only $4 a bomber as well. (191 characters)

On tap at HomeD pizza in State College, served in a tulip glass.

L: Pours an inky black into the tulip glass. A thick off-white head lasts for quite awhile and leaves beautiful lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Espresso and toasted malts on the nose, chocolate and alcohol. This beer smells great.

T/F: Lighter on the coffee taste than expected from the smell, and this isn't a bad thing as it allows the other flavors to play on the palate. Coffee is there to taste, with roasted malts, dark fruits, and chocolate. There is a nice alcoholic warmth but subtle. Minimal carbonation and very smooth and thick.

O: This is one of my favorite Coffee stouts, and something I've looked forward to every winter for the past few years. Yet another great brew from Lagunitas. (784 characters)

Poured a clear dark-brown, almost black.

Smells of roasted grains and sweet dark malts.

Syrupy mouth feel with a heavy sweetness, coating the mouth a bit; transitions into bitter hops and toasted grains with a coffee bean mid-body and coffee finish.

Would I buy it again? Yes! (280 characters)

After recently having gnarly wine and high Westfield I was just a little dissapointed with this. It definitely was bad and at 4.99 a bomber and over 9 percent it's worth the price. My lower rating is based on the peppery taste. Would have rated higher if it had a more creaminess and vanilla flavor. Still it's worth a try. (323 characters)

22 oz bottle that is a year old poured into can glass

A: dark in color with edges of brown light can get through this guy a little. not much of a head dissipates to a film

S: still getting some coffee some bakers chocolate and licorice

T: a lot of that licorice and anise taste with hints of coffee

M: medium to slightly fuller feel

O: I'm not a fan of again beers but I disliked this beer fresh it's better aged which says a lot, but it's not something I will ever seek out again. (490 characters)

Look: Pours black with a nice tan head, reminiscent of the head on a freshly made shot of espresso, leaves considerable lacing

Smell: Nice coffee/espresso aroma, with hints of roasted malts and a little hint of sweetness

Taste: Very coffee/espresso forward in the taste, but there are nice roasted malts, chocolate, and vanilla in there as well.

Feel: Medium body with good carbonation

Overall: Very good, with nice coffee forward flavors. Surprisingly drinkable for it's strength. Might be more aptly named Espresso Stout, as it doesn't have any milk to it. (563 characters)
