Pours a deep, dark black with a two-finger head that fades fast. Looks too much like coffee to me.

Creamy roasted coffee greets my nose. That's about all that I can detect at this point.

Wow. A wallop of roasted coffee upfront followed by mild cocoa and cream notes. This is all about the roast though.

This ale has gone up from 8.8 to 9% and yet, it doesn't show that much thanks to the density of the malt. Plenty of coffee to keep your tongue occupied.

I do admit that the carbonation is somewhat lacking but otherwise, this is a solid coffee stout.

22oz bottle into a pint glass

seemed thin while pouring, but quickly accumulated a thick, cakey collar of tan foam. My recent attempt at facial hair is going to love the ensuing foamstache. light barely comes through, edges of amber when held up to a bulb.

roasty malt and bitter chocolate on the nose, espresso.

coffee coffee coffee! Not really getting the "cappuccino" part of the name, but definitely has the espresso part. It's a little bitter/tart with some smoke on the back end. My tongue is getting some spicy hop resin, but it's faint. Not sure how old this bottle is, though.

On the light body side for a 9% stout, but not thin. Good carbonation levels. Semi-sweet.

Overall, I'd have to count this as a miss. Espresso/Coffee stout makes more sense as a title, as I didn't get any creaminess in the mouthfeel or flavor. The balance is off. The only thing I can't fault is the price ($4!).

22oz bottle into tulip snifter.

Pours what appears to be black, though when held to the light shows very deep brown, with dark ruby highlights. A bubbly, tan head that dissipates fairly quickly.

The aroma is quite interesting. . . spicey, earthy coffee notes.

The taste has more of the spicey, yet earthy coffee notes, and while still the main focus is not quite as dominant as in the aroma. Along with these notes are some chocolate and roast malt.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with slightly low, yet appropriate carbonation.

The coffee used in this definitely gives a very unique character that I have yet to experience in another beer. As mentioned below, not in the same category as some of the top-rated Imperial Stouts, but in my opinion very enjoyable and well brewed. I wouldn't expect this beer to be enjoyed by everyone, but I found it quite nice.

A- Very dark. Has a bit of a red tint to it. Head is thin and off white but doesn't last long.
S- Aroma is decent but mild. Roasted malt, with a bit of coffee and a faint hint of chocolate.
T- Black coffee with a bit of chocolate. The finish has a bit of pepper and smoke.
M- Medium-light body for style with a bit more than average carbonation. Fairly dry in the finish.
O- All in all a decent imperial stout, but it doesn't crack the upper eschelons of imperial stouts for me.

Served from a 22 oz bomber into a bruery tulip. Comes out a dark brown soda color with a light brown head, about 3/4 inch thick. The head settles down quite quick. Smells like a nice milk chocolate with a light coffee flavor. Tastes is a little bit different. Not overwhelmingly like coffee but a nice balance. Light hop precense in the front palate. Alcohol is well hidden. Nice earthly malt balances out this beer quite nicely. Very nice mouthful. medium body with a dry aftertaste. Not too shabby. Overall this is a decent stout. It certainly didn't "wow" me, but is certainly worth a try. I will not be seeking this beer out in the future.

Bottled 21DEC11

pours a brown ale with little head formation, some dark brown hues through side clarity. Smells of coffee, soil, wet bark, cocoa (dry and unsweetened). I like the nose.

Coffee is spicy and sharp and pronounced. The label says the coffee is "hardcore" - I will jump on board with this. I would drink this stuff really hot or really ice cold. It is very coffee forward. I really dig the stout aspect of the beer, it's dry and soily with some undertones of cocoa, and bittered malts.

Mouth feel is a bit thin for thy style, but the carb is spot on in a moderate, but fleeting temperament.

Overall, this is a nice beer, and I wish it were a year round offering. Moreso, I wish it were a 12oz offering as the beer is good, but big, really big.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a snifter. Pours a cola black with about a finger of light mocha head. The aroma has predominately coffee notes, along with some vanilla and cocoa powder. The taste has those same coffee notes along with some chocolate complementing on the back end. The mouthfeel is very thin and light with decent carbonation.

A suprisingly "meh" beer from a good brewery in Lagunitas. Fairly disappointed in this one.

The last half of a bomber into a brandy snifter. She's warmed up a bit, so this should be spot on for serving temp.

Pours a very, very dark antique brown with a nice light tan dollop that falls quickly and laces okay.

Boozy nose with some coffee, maraschino cherry, and baker's chocolate. The alcohol is big and brandied, wafting up to cut the creaminess. Some dank hop presence.

First sip has an interesting fruitiness--it might be that same cherry I picked up in the nose. There's a nice leafy hop bite in the back on the swallow that has spicy characteristics. Wet grain, chicory, cafe latte, red-skinned fruits, and more of that hot alcohol. It's certainly not bad, might mellow in six months for the better. The cream aspect lends to the 'Cappuccino', but there's not enough espresso. The coffee nuances are not as prominent, and, in comparison to the alcohol presence, the roasty bitterness is rather fleeting. Above-average, but not amazing.

Nice carbonation, sudsy and FAR from bland. Medium-heavy with some heft. Almost creamy in feel. Feels like a big foamy cappuccino.

I've enjoyed this beer more in the past than I have this time around. It's hot for under 9%, surprisingly fruity, and a bit misnamed; but it's a good brew. An enjoyable Imperial Stout that means business. Still worth seeking out.
