Pours black with brown at the edges when held up to light, and a creamy 1 finger tan head that faded slowly, leaving good spotty lacing sticking to the sides.

Smells of espresso, coffee beans, caramel, roasted grains, syrup, floral hops, lemon zest, citrus hops, sweet malt, brown sugar, licorice and light herbs; the coffee and sweetness dominate the nose and almost give a rum like aroma.

Tastes of espresso, coffee beans, vanilla, caramel, roasted grains, syrup, chocolate, brown sugar, cocoa powder, floral hops, lemon, citrus hops, sweet malt, licorice, dark fruit like dates, rum soaked wheat bread and very light herbs; it’s almost cloyingly sweet but stays on the right side of the flavor line with enough roasted malt and coffee flavors to remain extremely tasty. The booze peeks through at all times, but remains in check and adds a nice touch not letting the 9% ruin the experience.

Mouthfeel is light and smooth yet chewy, with a heavy body but an almost watery feel that let’s this go down easy with very light carbonation, and a slightly bitter finish that trails off chalky with roasted grains, vanilla and coffee beans leaving a sweet coating on the tongue.

Wow, this was rich and full of flavor, boozy and complex, getting better as it warmed, and yet easy drinking and relatively smooth for such a heavy brew; a damn fine stout and a must try for any coffee stout fan. This beer was excellent and blended two of my favorite drinks with artistic precision; my only knock is the bitter chicory taste that remains after each swallow, which overtakes the coffee sweetness – besides that, this is an incredible beer that hides the alcohol very well and goes down easier than it should. Calling on all stout fans to go out and try this now.

Dark ruby crimson color body with a weak off brown head. It reminds me of porter and not a stout.

Coffee, caramel, chocolate and some dark fruits but are pretty weak in aroma - a real let down.

Coffee is noticeable but not extreme. Burnt toast, some dark fruits fruits, caramel, dark chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Once again the flavors are weak and watery. Nothing stands out about the taste.

Dry, some alcohol heat, carbonation is light, medium body but feels heavy in the belly.

This stout falls apart all over. I'm really let down by this. What a shame.

Dark brown with light red highlights and tan frothy head with good retention. Strong espresso aroma. Coffee up front with light chocolate and roasted notes with a good milky sweet balance and low bitterness. Smooth and silky feel with a lightly creamy texture.

This one is really focused on the coffee which is as it should be in a coffee stout. It has a good balance in flavor and the aroma is simple but powerful. It’s like a Cuban coffee with alcohol, intense and enjoyable and not to mention affordable.

Poured into my Deschutes tulip

A: Pours a dark brown with a light brown 1/2 finger head. Little to no head retention and minor lacing.

S: Faint coffee and vanilla, some roasted malts and chocolate hiding in there as well.

T: Bitter coffee up front, some roasted malt middle with a faint creamy vanilla finish.

M: Medium body with moderate carbonation.

O: A let down. I get very very little coffee/espresso in the nose or in the flavor. To even get it to come through I have to agitate the crap out of it. A muddled mess that could use lots of refinement.

Pours a translucent dark brown with a quickly dissipating root beer head. Aroma is characterized by notes of chocolate, coffee, and tobacco barn. The flavors are unique, balanced, clever, and fun. Flavors of coffee and green olives make this a very interesting beer. That, combined with the creamy, viscous, appealing mouthfeel make this a magnificent beer. Lagunitas is hit and miss, but this is a success.

poured a deep brown into a pint glass, 1/4" tan head that stayed for a while. very sweet smells of milk, cocoa, coffee, vanilla bean, nuts, roasted grains. roasted coffee taste up front followed up by a sweet lactose taste. hints of vanilla bean and oatmeal. for being a 9% stout, it has no alcohol taste present, which is a very dangerous thing! a very creamy mouthfeel, full bodied with moderate carbonation. decent amounts of lacing too. this a damn near perfect stout overall. very flavorful, very pretty looking, very aromatic. there's barely anything to improve, aside from making the switch from a seasonal to year round!
