Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale is sweet, chewy, and long-lasting.
It poured dark copper with a ruby tint, with a short-lived head. It left perfectly-spaced rings of lace. As with many Lagunitas ales, it had a strong and very pleasant citric aroma. The flavor was sweet and malty, with an earthy, yeasty finish. The feel was remarkably full and bready--this felt like liquid food--with a dry finish that seemed to linger for hours.
Imperial Red Ale is a bit crisp for an American Strong Ale--neither the flavor nor feel beg for it to be sipped--but, it's very tasty. Its an oddity--an American Stron Ale that goes as well with dinner as it goes after.
