Very pretty beer- more deep amber than red but that may be just my opinion. A dense, off white head forms when aggressivly poured into a pint glass (RIP Heavyweight)with nice spatters of lace and slow, steady carbonation. Crystal clear with no chill haze or trub in the bottle. Retained a sheet of foam throughout.
Aroma is sweet and slightly floral with notes of coffee and leather and berries. Not very pungent but interesting and sort of unique.
Aromas and flavor of strawberries blend with hints of dark grain and notes of scorched bread up front give way to a strong grassy hop bite. Very "green" and chewy hop character that sadly wipes away the fruity malt.
Very dry finish with excellent body and mouth feel especially as it warmed up. 7+% is well hidden and barely noticable untill the end where mild hints of alcohol linger behind the long semi- bitter finish.
I like this one alot but it seems more like a red IPA to me. 5-10 IBU's less and those great fruity malt flavors would stand up better and be on more equal footing with the hops.

Lagunitas Imperial Red
Appearance: light nut brown, medium head, and good lacing.
Smell: fruity hops and a very light grain.
Taste: whole hop, nice malts, and a light citrus.
Mouthfeel: medium and smooth.
This is nice brew. The hops are up front and immediately followed by nice warm malts. The hops give off a whole cone flavor, while being very balanced in itself. The hops were added in the right amounts at the right times.
