Appearance - Pours a mostly goldish color with a slight amber red tinge. The bottle promises a big head, but was finger width on the pour and dissipated quickly into a fine, but sticky lace.
Smell - Wonderful citrus hoppy aroma with just a touch of pine resin, and some sweet malt notes come through as well.
Taste - Sweet and bitter ruby red grapefruit resulting from a wonderful balance of citrus hop and a sweet, sticky malt, slightly caramel but more bready. A bit of pine sneaks through, and there's a very faint bitterness that carries through well into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Beautiful. Silky smooth, and a wonderful carbonation. It's almost criminal how easy drinking this beer is.
Overall - I'm noticing a pattern on the basic flavor profiles of the newer Lagunitas releases, and this one is no different. Citrus hop forward, anchored by a sweet malt backbone. I don't know if this necessarily fits the style of an imperial red (and per my understanding, "imperial red" is not a style that's currently recognized), but it sure is damn tasty.

Lagunitas Imperial Red
Appearance: light nut brown, medium head, and good lacing.
Smell: fruity hops and a very light grain.
Taste: whole hop, nice malts, and a light citrus.
Mouthfeel: medium and smooth.
This is nice brew. The hops are up front and immediately followed by nice warm malts. The hops give off a whole cone flavor, while being very balanced in itself. The hops were added in the right amounts at the right times.
