12oz bottle into a pint glass
A: Pours a crystal clear amber orange with a big 3 fingers width of light khaki colored head which takes a good amount of time to dissipate down to a thick film that remains throughout the drink. Leaves tons of layered lacing.
S: Just a huge and wonderful hop aroma. Citrus, tropical fruits, and pine/juniper explode from the glass. Orange and pineapple are prominent. Hints of sweet malt but for the most part this is a hop bomb. Some booze makes itself known towards the end of the glass. If this were a blind tasting you would certainly think this is an IPA or DIPA, and a great one.
T: Piney hops, citrus rind. Bitter hop bomb. A touch of burnt sugar. I get little to no sweet characters.
M/D: Surprisingly light mouthfeel, which I think is attributed to the fairly big carbonation and the quick drying characteristic. No hint of the almost double digit ABV and drinkability is surprisingly high. This one could get your smacked up pretty quickly with this drinkability at 9.99%.
O: Overall, this is a very good beer, albeit not what I was expecting. In my book this is clearly a DIPA. In fact this has one of the strongest hop bitternesses Ive had in a long time. Not sure where the Shugga in the name came from as this is far from sweet! None the less, very enjoyable. Im curious as to how this one would age, I think Ill pick up a couple more to find out what happens when the huge hop characters die down.
