A: From a 22 oz bomber that cost me just $3.59, poured into a nonic-style pint glass, the body is a slightly cloudy dark amber that appears more orangey-red when backlit. A 1/2-finger khaki head settles over the top, and remains with solid staying power. Plenty of bubbles rise and thick rings of lacing remain behind all the way down.
S: First impression is of grapefruity hops and then caramel malt. There's also a hint of pine and wood as well. Nice balance between malty and hoppy.
T: Nicely balanced here as well -- sugar sweet caramel malt up front then the grapefruity hops kick in at the end of the sip -- resiny, citrusy and even piney again. A lingering hop bitterness stays with you. As it warms there's a slightly peppery taste to it as well.
M: Pretty smooth but with a fairly crisp finish and good levels of carbonation. Medium to heavy in heft.
D: Excellent, especially for a beer of this strength. It went down easily -- maybe too easily.
Notes -- Having had the Arrogant Bastard recently, I've got to say this one gives Stone a run for its money in the Strong Ale category. Especially when you factor in the cost. I was so pleased with this one that I immediately beer-mailed two friends to recommend it. Check it out.

Gotta love the label graphic - nicely done
Looks like this was bottled about April 23rd 2013, so it's got a lot of age on it now! Bought at the end of last September and mistakenly aged. That might explain why it came across as more of an ESB than an American amber.
Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a Samuel Adams nonick.
a: Nearly clear dark amber/copper with an inch plus offwhite head which receded to rocky surface foam and dense lacing.
s: Mild caramel malt.
t; First impression is its pleasing silky smoothness, followed by a nice caramel malt and hops balance. Sweet to dry finish. Its 8.65% ABV is well concealed.
m: Medium, silky smooth.
o: A very enjoyable and satisfying ESB-style ale, highly sippable and savory in texture and overall taste. I'd buy this again anytime of year. However I'll need to try a much fresher bottle to confirm this.
