22oz bottle purchased at Vendome Fullerton.
A- Poured into an Allagash stemmed glass, Lucky 13 pours a clear copperish-amber color with a tan, bubbly head that leaves a few sheets of sticky lacing clinging to the glass. A frothy layer of foam rests atop the beer for the duration of my review.
S- A very sweet and "sticky" smell. Red hard candy, sugary-sweet notes of tropical fruits and alcohol heat work in conjunction with pleasing aromas of resiny pine, pineapple and red grapefruit. Notes of toffee, burnt caramel and brown sugar lurk in the background. Everything really jumps out at you.
T- The taste is primarily sweet with a deliciously hoppy bite towards a very dry finish. Flavors of sweet caramel malts and candy such as red and black licorice are greeted by piney hops and a slight indication of this beer's 8.3% ABV. The finish coats the inside of the mouth with a nice tobacco bitterness that keeps the sweet flavors from becoming cloying.
M- The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a slightly syrupy texture and moderate carbonation.
D- No complaints here. The alcohol is noticeable, but it adds a nice bit of heat to a sweet and hoppy beer. This one creeps up on you.
One of Lagunitas' better offerings.

Gotta love the label graphic - nicely done
Looks like this was bottled about April 23rd 2013, so it's got a lot of age on it now! Bought at the end of last September and mistakenly aged. That might explain why it came across as more of an ESB than an American amber.
Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a Samuel Adams nonick.
a: Nearly clear dark amber/copper with an inch plus offwhite head which receded to rocky surface foam and dense lacing.
s: Mild caramel malt.
t; First impression is its pleasing silky smoothness, followed by a nice caramel malt and hops balance. Sweet to dry finish. Its 8.65% ABV is well concealed.
m: Medium, silky smooth.
o: A very enjoyable and satisfying ESB-style ale, highly sippable and savory in texture and overall taste. I'd buy this again anytime of year. However I'll need to try a much fresher bottle to confirm this.
