Presentation: 22 oz. bomber. No freshness date, but a small blurb about their 13 years of success.
Appearance: Beautiful deep ruby color with a golden tinge. For the most part, very clear. Thick dense amber colored head rests gently on top with excellent retention and lacing.
Smell: Lots of hops. Must like a double IPA. Resinous, piney, and a hint of the 8.3% ABV that lurks within.
Taste: Starts off very malty. There is a thiness of the beer from the alcohol. It is a little on the "warm " side. A nice full mouthfeel and dryness from the rye sneaks in then with a rush of resiny and citrus hop flavor and some light bitterness.
Notes: It is a large red ale, but I was hoping for something bigger. Not in terms of alcohol, but the body, malt flavor, and some sweetness. The hop aroma and flavor is definitely there, but the bitterness isn't.

Gotta love the label graphic - nicely done
Looks like this was bottled about April 23rd 2013, so it's got a lot of age on it now! Bought at the end of last September and mistakenly aged. That might explain why it came across as more of an ESB than an American amber.
Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a Samuel Adams nonick.
a: Nearly clear dark amber/copper with an inch plus offwhite head which receded to rocky surface foam and dense lacing.
s: Mild caramel malt.
t; First impression is its pleasing silky smoothness, followed by a nice caramel malt and hops balance. Sweet to dry finish. Its 8.65% ABV is well concealed.
m: Medium, silky smooth.
o: A very enjoyable and satisfying ESB-style ale, highly sippable and savory in texture and overall taste. I'd buy this again anytime of year. However I'll need to try a much fresher bottle to confirm this.
Serving type: growler
