A - Slightly more than two fingers worth of light khaki colored head that is a bit airy and uniformly packed with a bit of a dimpled top and a couple of stray big chunky bubbles mixed in... Rock solid retention... The color is a blend of rich amber and light bronze... There is a distinct reddish hue lingering beneath the surface that provides a nice lively glow... A few streaks of moderately paced carbonation... A good bit of sticky lacing clings to the sides of the glass...
S - A powerful, unique, assertive nose right off the bat... Mentholyptus... Pine... Candied sugars... Pineapple... A hint of caramel... Light brown sugar... A slight medicinal component... Perhaps even some light floral notes...
T - The nose was a wonderful predictor of what materialized on the palate... Piney to start... Undertones of the mentholyptus... A bit of citrus goodness... Caramel... Toffee... Brown sugar... A kiss of floral notes...
M - On the fuller side of medium bodied... Clean and crisp... Slightly sticky... Rich... Pungent... Lightly carbonated... Even and consistent...
D -A rather unique American Amber / Red Ale... The 77 IBU seems a bit understated as this one is packed with pungent bitterness... The mentholyptus notes I pick up several facets are a wee bit off putting, but also add a rather unique character... An interesting brew worth exploring, but not something I will revisit regularity...

Gotta love the label graphic - nicely done
Looks like this was bottled about April 23rd 2013, so it's got a lot of age on it now! Bought at the end of last September and mistakenly aged. That might explain why it came across as more of an ESB than an American amber.
Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a Samuel Adams nonick.
a: Nearly clear dark amber/copper with an inch plus offwhite head which receded to rocky surface foam and dense lacing.
s: Mild caramel malt.
t; First impression is its pleasing silky smoothness, followed by a nice caramel malt and hops balance. Sweet to dry finish. Its 8.65% ABV is well concealed.
m: Medium, silky smooth.
o: A very enjoyable and satisfying ESB-style ale, highly sippable and savory in texture and overall taste. I'd buy this again anytime of year. However I'll need to try a much fresher bottle to confirm this.
