Pours a deep copper red color with a thick foamy head. Slightly hazy. Head retention is very good. Lacing is excellent. Nice malty, piney aroma. Hints of caramel. More like a DIPA. Very malty taste with a nice transition to a piney hop, ending in a very smooth, caramel like taste. There is a hint of citrus in there, maybe more with the aftertaste. This is a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. A true joy to drink. Very surprised with this one.

Besides just a little sweeter than I would like, this amber ale could easily top what I have tried so far in the Amberscope. This smooth mouth feel is almost unparaelleled in other beers I have tried. Definitely very enjoyable and very good overall, but the sweetness really pops and that does takes some of its excellence away because the malt will then be felt less.

Pours a copper brown/red. Smell is of malt and hops. Taste is pretty sweet, full bodied with lots of fruit. Tastes similar to maximus and undercover shutdown ale, lagunitas seems to have a pretty similar profile for these kind of beers. Overall tasty but if you've had one lagunitas 7% + abv you've probably had them all.

Pours deep burnt orange with ruby edges and one and a half finger off white head of fluffy bubbles. Nose of caramel, bready malt, grapefruit, ripe peach, and resin. Up front there's typical lagunitas sweetness, caramel, peach, pineapple, grapefruit, lingering bitterness that starts mid palate. Very nice.

Really liked aspects of the beer independently, but not ot as a whole. After three I found that it almost became cloyingly sweet. Don't dislike, but it's kind of a hit it and quit it beer for me personally.

I decided to give this brew a try after reading the mostly positive reviews. I have to say, I am impressed. Definitely one of the better beers I have had in awhile. I poured it into a tulip glass, and the first thing I noticed was the beautiful dark copper color and a nice creamy colored head, about 2 fingers in length. I would also like to mention the temperature of the beer was probably around 50-60 degrees, not sure exactly how much, but this beer was only in my fridge for about an hour before I decided to give it a try.

Upon taking my first sip, I noticed the subtle and pleasant aroma of the hops. The beer itself is not as hoppy, or bitter as I expected. What I tasted the most was the malts coming through, to give it a slightly sweet, yet pleasant and clean finish.

Lastly,

I was suprised to find out about the High ABV rating, for a beer that is almost 9% ABV it sure went down smooth. Overall, good rating, and would drink again!

Lucky indeed!

L: Pours a rich bronze with a fingers worth of off white head. Clear and transparent when held up to the light. S: Nose is full of honey, bready malt, floral essence, and heaps of grapefruit. T: Mostly follows the nose, but richer. Caramel, bread up front; the hops brighten in the middle with citrusy, grapefruity, slightly bitter on the tongue, begging you to dislike it, when the malt jumps back in with a honey, crackery finish that all but screams Red Ale. M: medium, carbonation is good but a bystander to the big flavor profile. Pretty dry, given the size of the malt presence. O: A very good, drinkable Red. As advertised, "Mondo Large". I never seem to be disappointed with Lagunitas. Then again, I must be lucky, indeed.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. No date noted in bottle. Nice Amber orange color with a 2 finger head that fades slow and leaves nice lacing. You can taste the malt up front and some bitter hops but not much. The earthy malt dominates for sure. A nice drinking beer but I probably would have 1 because of the maleness and 8.8%abv.

Do you like Lagunitas? Have you noticed that every other beer they makes tastes pretty similar and awesome? Then drink this! Maltier, chewier, richer, but unmistakably Lagunitas.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass not sure when it was bottled, but I am sure it is on it, but not enough patience to search. Pours a gorgeous dark amber, with a stick two finger white head, that leaves loads of lace.

Smell is caramel, hard candy, apple, toffee, pine, and grapefruit.

Taste follows caramel, apple, hard candy toffee, biscuit upfront and finishes with pine and grapefruit.

Mouthfeel is medium at least, moderate carbonation, a tad dry, and really nice drinkability for its size.

Overall this is a very nice Hoppy Red that stands out for price and quality, as I come to expect from Lagunitas.

Poured into a small pint shaped glass: color is very clear, moderately effervescent amber, head is light tan with moderate sized bubbles, head presents at least 1 inch thick, very nice looking.

Smell is very good, great emphatic hop burst, pine, earth, lighter grapefruit rind; malt notes are light caramel with some toast.

Taste is similar to the aroma: big hop burst, with a great blend of pine, grapefruit rind, and some earthier notes; malt follows with moderate caramel and toast; just a great tasting beer.

Mouthfeel is a little drier than similar styled ales, moderate sweetness presents at first then the hops dry it out and it is noticeable on the tongue.

Overall, a great strong red ale with fairly balanced flavors and a dry finish.

From bottle to pint glass.

A: An opaque burnt orange with off-white one finger head that lingered.

S: Citrus, grapefruit, grassy hops and bready malts.

T: I wasn't expecting much, but got an opening volley of grapefruit and West Coast hops, followed by a pleasing malt taste. What sealed the deal was the honey/bready finish that spoke "Red Ale" loud and clear.

M: Medium with medium, chewy carbonation.

O: I could drink several of these. A nice surprise that begs to be visited again and again. Lucky, lucky.

12 oz bottle was poured into a tulip.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a copper color with goodclarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Frothy lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Citrus, herbal, and grassy hops followed by caramel, toasted, biscuity malts, and light alcohol.

Taste: Nice hop flavor followed by a complimentary malt bill, light light bitterness, and warm alcohol.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied, light light bitterness, a little alcohol, and medium carbonation.

Overall: Pretty nice imperial red ale. I'd revisit it for sure.

Purchased at a local Trader Joes - from a mix and match 6 pack. Wanted to try it before buying an entire 6-pack of it! Pours a deep orange-red. Very bubbly foam - but not frothy..quite enticing. Smell the hops with a citrus tone. Taste is a great mix of West Coast hops..not as malty as I was expecting - and that's a good thing. A very good red ale...really a red IPA ...which I will be surely partaking of again.

Pours a reddish copper with a huge two fingers of head. The nose has dank and malty notes. The flavor is malt forward with a nice array of dank hops on the finish. The finish also has a trace of sticky bun-like sweetness which is a bit out of place.

Poured into snifter glass. Orangish red in color with a beautiful thick and foamy head. It looked great until I saw it wasn't filtered. A lot of floaties dispersed in the glass.

Smell: some pine with subtle notes of cherry. Also some malt that smells sweet and bready.

Taste: hops are a bit medicinal. Some cherry cough syrup. Kind of lingers around for a while after you take a sip. Also a little bit of grapefruit but it doesn't dive into anything more flavor wise.

Mouthfeel: medium-bodied and smooth

Overall: hard to enjoy through that medicinal taste; but because it's highly rated, I question if it's a good batch or maybe I'm one of the few that is not too impressed with it. Maybe my least favorite from Lagunitas because there is no doubt they make great beer.

Pours orange-reddish. Beautiful 1 finger fluffy brown head. Small lazy amounts of carb rising [rather hypnotic.

Smell of grapefruit, sweetness. Some hints of tangerine. Floral.

Taste of grapefruit up front. Caramel middle. Honey and bread. Tart at end.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, dry and cleansing.

Overall, a very nice brew. Refreshing on a hot day.

A - Red-orange, almost copper body, transparent with lots of visible carbonation cascading, head of off white. Huge lacing, lots of sticky threads.

S - Pine, with a bit of pith, and a very strong honey malt background.

T - Immediately, I thought I was drinking an Arrogant Bastard. A pushy bright hop hit, of pine, then pith, then grapefruit zest, and a close moderately bitter with a strong malt background keeping things from tilting over the line.

M - A definite drying, but moderate enough to keep things from taxing the palate. In this case, the malt mitigates what might have been a wrecker by offering some heft which carries the present hop oils away.

O - Nice trick. A bit sweeter than AB, a bit less brutal, but a superb strong ale and definitely in the same ballpark.

Lucky 13 pours a light amber color with a towering head, leaving enormous lace behind. As always, Lagunitas brews fail to disappoint on the appearance side of things.

Aroma delivers lots of pine, raisin, grapefruit peel, and a faint whisper of caramel malts, biscuit, and toffee. Loud but too hoppy on the nose in my opinion.

Big caramel sweetness up front, but tons of pine and hop oils to scrub the tongue of any feeling. Some lemon and lime citrus also peels away layers. As the head recedes more caramel sweetness comes out but by and large it's a pretty hoppy ale. Lingering flavors of cinnamon, toffee, and pine.

Feel is creamy and smooth, mildly carbonated, and slightly sticky. Actually pretty decent.

Overall, this is most certainly good for a taste test, but I don't know if I'm a fan of this.

(After the review, I heated up a turkey sandwich and drank the rest from the bottle. By far, this beer is best drank from the bottle, as the caramel sweetness is more pronounced, and you get less pine on the nose therefore muting most of the bitter experience. I also had this side by side Stone's Paskatala Red X IPA) and this is by far the superior ale).

Poured into a Lagunitas large mouth glass.

Look: Very dark clear copper colored body with a foamy, cream colored head. Large weird shaped patches of lacing stay on the glass.

Aroma: Subdued malts get covered with a spicy, almost minty hop aroma. Woody cedar notes are also found.

Taste: Unfortunately, I can't make out this beer to be unique from other Lagunitas beers, because quite frankly it has that absolute knowing Lagunitas house taste. It is malty and sweet with a touch of brown sugar and black tea hop tang in the finish. The alcohol is amazingly hidden for 8.8%.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, a little thick.

Overall: If I drank this as a blind taste taste, I would only know that it's a Lagunitas beer, never quite guessing the style.

Only had a few reds recently and this one really stands out. Mostly an IPA guy but enjoy tasting a variety of Harley Pops. I love the brewery so I'm a wee bit biased but this beer won't disappoint. Just like the bro's say.

I poured this from a bottle into a clear teardrop glass. It pours a cloudy red with a one finger white head. The smell is very much grapefruit, and the taste grapefruit and hops. It's a pretty good beer but too bitter for a red ale, in my book.

Poured from a bottle into a Lagunitas mason glass.

L: Pours a clear copper brown color with 3 fingers of thick off-white head that falls rapidly. Moderate lacing.

S: Rich and bready... caramel and dark sugars. Pine and a touch of spice.

T/F: Taste follows nose as this is a rich bready malt bomb... caramel and sweets very nicely balanced with that classic Lagunitas hop profile... pine and faint citrus. How is this 77 IBU's?? Mild peppercorn. Sticky and juicy on the mouthfeel. A bit of a tingle on the tongue as it warms at the finish.

O: Another awesome beer from Lagunitas... just outstanding, and one I could drink every day. Pretty much a can't miss purchase.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Lagunitas mason jar.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber red with a moderate amount of bubbles. About a finger of off white head which settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A dank and juicy hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus, pine, and caramel malt. Citrus hop hints of grapefruit and orange peel. Earthy hop hints of pine resin, cannabis, and grass. Big red malt presence with hints of caramel, biscuit, and grains with some yeast. A really nice aroma.

Taste: Follows the nose with a juicy and earthy hop forward taste of citrus, pine, and caramel malt. Citrus hop notes of grapefruit and orange peel. Earthy and spicy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Good malt presence with notes of caramel, grains, biscuit, and toast with some yeast. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, chewy, and pretty oily with a drying finish.

Overall: A great hoppy Red Ale. Good mix of citrus, pine, and caramel flavor.
