Poured in a tulip shaped glass

Appearance: Reddish amber with a thick white head.

Smell: an explosion of hoppiness to the nose with a sweet sugary malted blend. citrusy with a blend of sweet melons.

Taste: piney, hoppy, sweet tangy sugary from the sweetness of the fruits. A nice blend of melon notes. It starts piney, hoppy on the front end and towards the back the sweet melons cut through. I can't really taste the alcohol. It is balanced well.

Mouthfeel: full bodied with moderate carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: This tastes like a classic lagunitas. This is problably my favorite Lagunitas and my favorite Red Ale thus far, It is very well balanced. I get both an explosion in hop character and sweet fruits in my palate. I would definitely buy this again.

bottle into duvel glass

appearance: amber ruby red with mahogany hue, 2 finger really bubbly white head

smell: sweet malt with an earthy citrus/grapefruit body, also tangerine, lemon and other floral notes, caramel, some vanilla on the backend, more sugary sweetness

taste: earthy floral notes balanced well with a sugary sweet malt backbone. Getting notes of citrus, bitter grapefruit, even some sugary caramel. The finish is less bitter than nose would suggest, coating your tongue with that typical Lagunitas sugary, resiny sweetness.

mouthfeel: average carbonation (a little higher than most lagunitas), average bodied

overall: A great beer from Lagunitas. Easily one of their better ones, is it just me or do a lot of their beers taste really similar? They seem to all have the same sugary sweetness, this one may take the cake though, it has the sweetness of Undercover and Sumpin Sumpin, but with the earthy, fruity hoppiness to back it up.

bomber into tulip.

A: crystal clear bight copper color. head is just a shade shy of bright white. frothy. good retention, coat of lacing left behind.

S: fantastically hoppy nose. lots of melon, cantaloupe, and even a little bit of sharp lime. I cant find any grain in here and I don't even care. this things smells fantastic. I cant think of any reds ive had, especially not one this big, that smells this sticky. two thumbs up.

T: this thing has some tang to it. starts with some hop flavor, pine battles with those fruity citrus American hops. now im getting a little bit of malt, caramel tones. aggressive finish includes a sticky hop bitterness and a mild alcohol heat.

M: average, slightly fizzy carb on a medium/full body.

D: really fantastic stuff here. glad I got this pretty fresh (or at least it sure does taste that way) considering no date coding... regardless for the price (I think I paid $6) is beyond worth it. well done lagunitas, well done.
