Poured into an imperial pint glass.
A - 22oz. Bottle, Poured with a 1 finger head, Amber colored, with good lacing.
S - Very citrusy with some pine notes. It's all about the hops.
T - First taste: grapefruit, which mellows to allow some pine and a bit of malt. Once the astringency of the hops wears, the grain and some apricot comes through.
M - The hoppy bitterness holds well in the mouth, but is not overpowering. Carbonation is just right. It is quite astringent.
D - At first taste, I thought this would be a one and done brew, but after the half, it was more and more drinkable. At 7.7%, one of the few Lagunitas offerings where a second 22 ouncer won't put me overboard.
I am a big Lagunitas fan, and this brew definitely tastes the part. Maximous is a smoother Ale, but this one is what it advertises: Hoppy.
Definitely worth another purchase.

Julian dating on the 22oz bomber revealed to be from May 20th (so almost 2 months on this by the time I cracked it open and poured it into the tulip glass). Might have wanted it a bit fresher, but that is no news flash. 1 and 1/2 fingers of white head which dissipated quickly and left some nice lacing. Interesting tangerine hue in the light, very tempting. Aromas of pine, grapefruit, and bitterness (yes, bitterness... this IS a 102 IBU brew!). Pine notes on the front wave of the taste profile, along with a citrusy (almost lemony) mid-note, with a big bitter finish. Continual carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel, and a slightly oily presence on the back end. This had a nice balance for a big beer, and though I was v. happy... would have to try one that was super fresh to make this a go-to choice.
