On tap at Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria in Greenville, South Carolina. Golden in colour, this brew had a thick and pillowy head that slowly faded to a respectible lacing along the side of the glass. Aromas thick of citrusy hops goodness and light, pale, malty breadiness - solid balance. Huge hop snap on the palate while the malt plays a distant, distant second fiddle which is just the way I like it for this style. Medium in body, this one slides right down far too easily. The alcohol is rather well hidden. A quaffer if there ever was one. One of my more favorites from this style.

Poured into an ale chalice: color is completely transparent gold, fine bubbles; head is tanish white, very dense and thick on first pour, then reduces to a solid thin top with some lacing down the glass.
Smell is definitely bitter and has some clean malt presence with a touch of caramel, biscuit and toast; hop notes seem provide a unique aroma, very resinous, piney with strong notes of grapefruit rind.
Taste is very clean, crisp with solid but not cloying hop and malt flavors: malt flavors are biscuit, caramel and light toast, but not sweet, more the presence and notes; hop flavors are similar to the aroma resinous, piney, with some grapefruit peel... strong but not mouthshattering. Very clean, yet strong flavors, with no booziness.
Mouthfeel is powerful, but not overpowering: clean flavors and moderate carbonation create a pleasant strong bitter beer mouthfeel.
Overall a very bitter dipa that has some unique flavor qualities: strong resinous flavors from the hops and clean fermentation and clean malt flavors with no oversweet or cloying presence.

The 22 ounce bomber just seemed to call out to me at Liquor Barn - how can you go wrong with "Hop Stoopid". Turns out I didn't. Enjoyed this with an Italian meal. The hop aroma with the mix or citrus and pine was almost overwhelming and the flavor profile didn't let me down. Although the label claims 102 IBU, the sweet malt backbone still comes through with a very nice balance between the hop and malt. This stood up quite well to spicy Italian food but I think it would be good with just about anything.
Overall this is just a very nice Imperial IPA that I will purchase again.
