Clean this mess up or else we'll all end up in jail...those test tubes and the scale...just get 'em all outta here..." He was referring to the complex super-critical-CO2 hop extraction equipment set up on the table in the lab across from the brewhouse. Hop extracts are for the BIG brewers, he thought - suitable only for crummy sub-standard and barely-passable industrial lagers, not the subtle and elegant craft beer made here. But wrong he was. The New Brewer does not eschew any possible inputs. In this case the mountain of extracts will replace the mountain of hop vegetative material in the kettle thus creating cleaner hop flavors and preventing the otherwise spinach-like mess of a kettle full of super-hopped wort from clogging up a pump or worse. The sensuous honey-like amber ooze was administered intravenously to the wort kettle and the sacrament was complete. Another kettle of Hop Stoopid is once again raised up and fermented on high.

22 oz bomber
pours orange/gold, and after a careless pour I'm left with a couple inches of frothy off-white head. Distinct rings of extremely sticky lacing are left behind each time I put down the glass. Spectacular.
Nose is similarly glorious, full of resiny hop oils, mostly of the pine variety but grapefruit and a more lemony aroma refuse to be ovreshadowed. I'd even say there's a bit of a tropical fruit note here. I was surprised to get a pale malt profile here; figured the hop bomb would dominate it for sure, as it has the alcohol.
While the malt profile was pleasantly surprising in the aroma, I find it lacking in the taste. It's mildly sweet and toasted, and easily dominated by the hops. Sometimes I love this...this time it is just good. Maybe just a bit of caramel malt would work better here - I'd be willing to try it!
The hops are rampant, but the finish only mildly bitter and drying, with a bit of alcohol heat and no over-the-top lingering/building bitterness or strange aftertastes like many DIPAs. Pine and grapefruit are still notable, but I'd call the flavor even more towards tropical fruit - pineapple maybe?
Having one of these is a great idea. Two? I'm not really tempted. Carbonation is pretty soft, body barely medium. I'd love to try this on tap, but otherwise I don't know that I'll seek it out very often.

Lagunitas is stupid. This beer is disgusting and really sucks for how popular it is.

I wasn’t an IPA fan until a trip to California a few years ago. One of the best memories was a 22oz of the Hop Stoopid.
This batch (6 pack in Ohio) tastes nice and fresh. With this offering from Lagunitas, I actually like the smell better than the taste. There is a delightful pineapple scent.
This is a a tasty IPA that doesn’t disappoint!

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Julian date of 0238, so appears to have been bottled in August of 2020. Quote a bit older than preferred, but here goes ..
Looks fantastic in the glass. Clear deep golden yellow body. Bright foamy white head persists in very good form throughout, leaving excellent lacing.
There is an aroma, pleasant, but hard to describe.
On tasting, it's strong, quite sweet, and although the hops have faded, there is still a hint of clean bitterness. The abv is apparent.
Mouth close to full, finish bittersweet.
Overall, at this age, still a decent drink. Will re-review if I find one fresh off the line and it's significantly different.
