I have waited a long time to get some of this, and it was well worth the wait to say the least.Poured into a imperial nonic a slight hazed bronze color with a tight sticky one finger white head that left multiple rings of lace as it settled into a creamy mass atop. The hop complexity in the nose is outstanding,a healthy dose of grapefruit and apricot-like fruitiness,a hint of pine resin, and sweet alcohol and caramel all come together nicely. At first sip the grapefruit flavors really stick out and they just burst out at ya,mild alcohol dipped apricot flavors and some leafy/herbal flavors round out the hop profile, there is a slight biscuit sweet malt base but it never really cuts into the hops.Just fresh tasting and great, the alcohol is sneaky but I would drink this all night....and pay for it the next day.

Appearance – This is a thin-looking florescent orange in color with a moderate head.

Smell – The smell here is big in the hops department. I'd say it almost had to have been dry-hopped. The hops are balanced, so there's not one big dominant hop aroma. Brewers usually go overboard on the pine when they want to make a hop bomb, but this has some strong citrus and fruit to go along with the pine and even some grassy notes.

Taste – As I thought its bark is bigger than its bite. Now, if this was billed as a dry-hopped IPA I'd be OK with it, but this is sold as a DIPA and it's just not there. It lacks the strong malt balance of a well-made DIPA but otherwise is very refreshing. It's gotta just be killer on-tap.

Mouthfeel – This just is medium-bodied. It has a good feel for an IPA and is very smooth. The bitterness isn't painful like some of the hop bombs out there on the market.

Drinkability – This is an extremely sessionable beer that all hop-lovers can appreciate. And really, out of the bottle it tastes like it's on-tap.

From a 22 oz bottle. Pours a tacky, stingy yellow color, highly opaque and cloudy. Thin white head that relaxes on top, leaving a respectable trace of lacing through the top half of the beer. Nose hits with a huge assortment of pungent hops and intense grapefruits. Pineapples and mangoes are swarming around as well. First sip - slightly dank, heavy amount of oily resins and pungent hops - both bitter and sweet, a cornucopia of citruses, fruits, and pines. Malt overtones in the finish help to balance out the ending, but this beer was meant to be bitter and hoppy. Heavy on the mouth, sticky, slick, and held up by a medium amount of carbonation.

Seriously great beer. Amazing flavor, so full of pines, resins, and hops that are counterbalanced perfectly by the fruity citrus, grapefruit, and pineapple flavors which ironically come from the hops as well. Slight malt finish puts a nice close on things. I recommend this beer to everybody.

Poured from bomber into Stone IRS tulip.

A: Poured a clear golden amber color with a moderate off-white head. Pretty nice looking; nothing exceptional.

S: Whoa. Big aromatics. Juicy, juicy hops. Seemed quite citric at first, with notes of mango. Then very herbal, dank undertones as I kept smelling. Very herbal and grassy, and quite compelling.

T: Hops are herbal and piney - and almost minty and cannabinoid. Maybe I've had too many IPAs recently and I'm becoming numbed or immune or something, but it doesn't seem bitter enough for 102 IBUs. That being said it's plenty bitter with a good malt structure - not super malty, but a nice backbone that leaves the hops to take center stage. Hops are tasty without being abrasive. Also got some interesting notes of raw pumpkin at times on the aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied, with a good level of fine carbonation.

D: Pretty damn high. I'm enjoying the hop profile, the malt is enough to make the beer full flavored without being in any way heavy or sweet. At 8% it's going to limit your ability to drink large quantities, but it's also not as alcoholic as many other DIPAs.

Overall, a very enjoyable DIPA that's quite easy to drink for the style. The hop profile is interesting, and not the pure citrus bomb that you often get with the style (not that that's bad). It's a little bit different, and so I praise it for that. I'll defintely buy it again.

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid. 8% alcohol. After reading the label it appears this beer is a product of using hop extract... lets see how it works.

A- Pours a very crystel clear yellow-orange fluid that produces a quarter inch head that falls to a good rim and froth on the top of the beer like ice on water. Random large bubbles linger. Excellent lacing clings to the glass like paint on a wall.

S- Huge scent of citrus... grapefruit, orange, lemon and grassy hops upfront. Also a light sweet lemon grass scent is noted with a barely there alcohol nose.

T-M- Outrageous amounts of hoppy goodness! Fresh grassy flavor upfront followed by almost sweet citrus hints that beg the taste buds to except more. Hop oil like feel just not to overpowering with a mild malt feel at the end of tasting. Light carbonation on the tongue allows this bitter bomb to stealthly move quickly down the pipe with little to make you believe this one is packing 8% alcohol.

D- Very drinkable... very recomended. Like this beer because it gets to the point. Make hoppy beer drinkable... thats it. Will get one for my brother when i go to North Carolina this weekend.

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale. 22oz bomber bottle. 102 International Bittering Units as described on the label. Poured into my new 1 liter German- Hofbräu brewery beer stein!

Appearance: Clear, bright orange with a pale white foamy head. Very little lacing with decent head retention.

Smell: Strong aromas of pine, citrus, grapefruit, fresh-cut grass.

Taste: Bitter, clean, slick hop-resin coats the mouth and tastes ohhhh so good! There are more flavors here but I am loathe to interpret and type them all out. But I will say it has a light, sweet malt backbone that keeps the hops from completely overwhelming the senses.

Mouthfeel: Medium-low carbonation. Like I said in the taste part, it is slick, and thick, and just coats your entire mouth in hoppy, bitter goodness.

Overall: This ain't your average Imperial IPA. It is certainly a thirst quencher and has enough hops for a "hophead". I'd like to see this beer at medium to medium-high carbonation to match the big 8% ABV and Imperial IPA profile, as I believe it's a tad under-carbonated.

A - Dark golden color, little lighter than I was expecting. Big fat bubbles, thought it was a little too carbonated at first but this dissipated quickly enough. Nice tall sudsy white head.

S - Hops first, floral and sweet. Light caramel malts and a little bit of bread. Very nice.

T - Surprised that this is over 100 IBU. Definitely bitter but balanced well by the sweet malt. Citrus hops hit my palate first followed by pine in the finish. Sweet throughout, but tastes great, the sweetness is no where near overpowering as it is balanced by the hop bitterness. Excellent.

M - Right on for a DIPA. You can tell there are some sugars still left in there not only by the smell and taste but also the feel. Not syrupy by any means, but no where near too thin. They did not over attenuate this beer to get to the 8%.

D - This beers smells and tastes so good and although it is not light, the sweetness and hops dominate and you don't really feel an alcohol warmth. The citrus really adds a refreshing character. Extremely drinkable for a DIPA.

Overall, I have not been the biggest fan of Lagunitas, but I think this beer is great. Hop extract or not, I really like it. Clean tasting and the hops really do shine, did not get the grassy notes you can get from too much dry hopping. I really enjoyed this beer.

Purchased from Otto's Wine Cask in Brown Deer, WI. Poured a bright golden body with a white head and good lacing. Aroma is of sweet citrus hops like orange and grapefruit. Medium bodied with an orange peel flavor. The malts hold up well with the bitterness but don't steal the show. Long, pleasantly bitter finish. Great drinkability for a double IPA, although it didn't seem like 102 IBU.

A: Translucent gold with a medium foamy white head

S: Big piney hop smell with some florals in the background

T: Earthy, piney, citrusy as expected. However the nice sweet honey tones were not so expected. Clearly there are strong hops but it's not overly bitter and there is a nice balance of malt.

M: Smooth and well carbonated but with a decent amount of bitterness. Not much heat shows through. It's certainly lighter than I had expected.

D: For the style it's quite drinkable but as a beer in general it still takes some hop tolerance.

Overall, I'm quite impressed with this beer. I had expected over the top hops and not much else. Turns out it's well balanced and hopped but not over the top. I'd drink it again.
