Oh sweet mother of beer. Came home after a dull, boring day at training for a new job. Decided to walk to the corner store for some honey buns and cheese popcorn when I stumbled upon this beauty. Hadn't tried Lagunitas until this Sunday. I had the Sucks with a friend and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Decided to give a Lagunitas brew another try since I was thoroughly impressed. I'm a hop-lover through and through and this baby swept me off my feet and carried me up a flight of crystal stairs into a palace of pure happiness. Needless to say it was delicious. It's hoppy and citrus-y. The mixture of the two dances on your tongue and tingles your senses but not too intensely. It's smooth all the way through- no bite, no bizarre aftertaste, just pure goodness all the way down. The smell is nice although it smells a tinge too nutty for my liking but that's my biggest complaint. It is a fantastic brew and I would definitely recommend it.

25.4 ounce bomber poured into 16-ounce glass.

A: Half a finger of white head tops light gold, semi-transparent beer. Lovely lacing.

S: Grapefruit explosion, tangerine, cut grass, pine and hops.

T: Starts with the coniferous tree taste, switches to the citrus, then back to the coniferous tree. Very bitter, hoppy finish. Hoppy all around.

M: medium-bodied, high acidity and bitterness. Medium carbonation. Packing heat - slick.

O: >100 IBUs - i'm a hophead who has built up a tolerance to this hoppiness, and this still is going to kill my tastebuds for the day. Just extremely hoppy and bitter.

Great beer. Great taste. Goes down as one of the tops... for now.
This wasn't on my "to-drink" list, but I made an exception. I'm glad I did.

A- Looks great, but I'll admit, I drank it right out of the bottle.
S-scent was of a perfect for a solid drinkable beer. Not over powering to the point that you felt like you had to brace yourself for a kick in the mouth, but not weak.
T- taste, my favorite part. It was good, very good. Easy and smooth. A great hop taste and even flavor.

O- this is a good solid beer. You should definitely check it out.

Purchased this while doing my weekend a month at the base I was on. They had a decent selection of beer, and I wound up going with this. I was very pleased with my selection. It poured a nice amber color with a very thick foamy rich white head. What got me though was the smell. This smell is what every IPA should strive for. Floral, fruity sweet and good. I could sit there smelling it all night. The smell didn't translate completely into the taste, but it was still very good. I'd say the lower level of the top tier of IPAs. Felt very smooth in my mouth, very refreshing. I think this IPA is very underrated. I am glad I found it and would not hesitate to drink it again.

~2 months old from bottle date.
Poured a clear dark gold with a finger of soapy white head.
Smell is huge tropical fruit and pine.
Taste is tropical fruit up front then becomes piney and resiny. Well balanced with light to medium body. Love this beer, reminds me of sucks.

A - Poured a bright orange with a two finger head.
S - Lots of hops and a hint of malt.
T - Citrus, grapefruit, pine, floral and sweet. Just enough of a malt backbone.
M - Medium body that has as clean finish.
O - Hoppy and a great choice when in the mood for a DIPA.

Amber colored with good clarity. Just a faint bit off white foam covers about half of the top of the beer. Intense aroma of grapefruit like hops greets my nose. The body is moderately carbonated and a bit sticky. There is an intense rush of sharp grapefruit hop flavor. There's a decent light malt backbone that briefly appears and is quickly overpowered by a long grapefruit hop burn.

Poured from a bottle with no clear "born on" date. Poured into a tulip.
Appearance - Pours a beautiful light orange with a thick, white head and leaves lots of sticky lacing!
Smell - The aroma is what I've come to expect from Lagunitas...absolutely brilliant! Obviously West Coast hop forward, but with a touch of malt sweetness.
Taste - this has more sweet candy flavors and floral hops.
Feel - That first wave over the palate is exhilarating; hops fade into sweet malts with hop bitterness on the finish.
Overall - One of the more affordable DIPA bombers available, nicely done Lagunitas! - R

very nice beer, perfectly balanced smooth and drinkable. the bitterness is palatable even by those who might not always enjoy a bitter ale...there's a lot of dank citrusy quality to it as well. they kept it simple with the 8%, its just all about the perfect balance and blend of hops

Hop Stoopid doesn't really stand out in my opinion. I don't see these bottles flying off the shelves at the local grocery store. I'll rate it slightly above average... 3.25/5.

It all comes down to preference anyway. I'll stick to Lagunitas Sucks and Lil Sumpin Sumpin Ale.

A: Very nice Amber color. 1 finger white foamy cap. I am drinking from a Samuel Smith's Pint glass and the SS logo on the bottom provides a nucleation site for a constant stream of bubbles.

S: No doubt a DIPA. Strong hops and floral smells. Definitely dandelion and maybe some pine.

T: Really kicks in midpalate. Lots of hops and floral taste - following the nose.

M: Very smooth and easy to drink. A sligh dry finish. Then after a few seconds a slight tingle on the tongue.

O: I really enjoy this beer. It is everything I want in an IPA - no masked or subdued flavors. It is one I would like to share with friends - and drink again.

smell; tropical fruit notes are off the hook. very strong aroma of guava, passion fruit and pineapple. with a bit of hoppy pine in there as well.

taste; sweet tropical fruit, the guava and passion fruit are there, backed up by malt and then a ltlle bit of hop bitterness to finish.

mouthfeel; medium body, slightly creamier then excepted, alot of bubbles.

overall; really underated beer in my opinion, great experience, great value, would easily buy again.

S: Great orange and grapefruit smell with a very faint malt at the end.
T: Very much like the smell. Hits you right in the face with some great citrus and hops but is balanced with a bit of malt and a good after taste. I'm amazed that I can't taste any alocohol.
M: A little over carbonated in my opinion but a great refreshing top

Definitely one of the best IPAs I've ever had, the only one that I think would be better than it for me would be Maine Beer's Lunch. This one, as the title implies, is stupidly hoppy, but I think that's what makes it great.

Appearance: A beautiful orangey-amber with a white, foamy head. Good lacing, very apparent carbonation

Smell: Just an assault of hops, with some citrusy backbone. Really inviting

Taste: Perfect. A really nice tasting blend of hops and citrus notes, this one's so bitter it almost becomes sweet again, clocking in at 102 IBUs according to the bottle. If you're into really hoppy beers, this is sort of the Holy Grail as far as I'm concerned.

Mouthfeel: Very well carbonated, meaning it's very refreshing. Helps to balance out the relatively high alcohol level and still make this feel like a nice, tasty, almost sessionable beer.

This is a really great example of a super hoppy DIPA. If you're into that style, this is the beer for you.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter at around 45°F

Appearance: A hazy pale orange golden color with a one finger white head that dissipates quickly.

Smell: Citrus hop bomb with notes of mango, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon etc. along with slight pine and malts to balance out the aromas which makes me want to dig in right away!

Taste: Follows the nose with citrus flavors and pine with just enough malt to round it out.Superbly balanced with very clean flavors.

Mouthfeel: Considering the 102 IBU's and 8% abv, this beer is tremendously drinkable. Goes down smoother than a lot of regular IPA's.

Overall: One of my favorite DIPA's; So much hop flavor without the overwhelming bitterness. At $4.50 a bomber, the price makes this beer even better in my opinion. If you're a fan of DIPA's, this one is hard to beat!

Bright clear golden color with large, white frothy head and persistent lacing.

Awesome aroma of citrus fruit and pine with some malt.

Initial tast is honey sweet, then moderate bitterness and grassy malty finish. Mild alcohol warmth.

Very smooth texture with medium carbonation.

Overall, this is quite sweet for a DIPA. The label says 102 IBU but I don't perceive that much bitterness, probably because it's balanced with so much sweetness. One of my favorite DIPAs, especially in this price range.

Bottle into tulip

Appearance - Pale orange, gold when light shines in, just over 1 finger white head, nice lacing.

Smell - Sweet tropical fruits and floral aroma, mango, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, and lemon. Little bit of malt, and little info alcohol.

Taste - Again sweet tropical fruity citrus. Mango, pineapple, and grapefruit all to start. Subtle lemon that leads into a nice malt backing for the beer. Comes out slightly roasty and peppery. The end gives you piny bitterness, resin, and slight alcohol.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, medium carbonation, crisp and refreshing.

Overall - Good beer. So happy when I tried this beer for the first time and quickly became one of my most liked lagunitas beers. Haven't been dissipointed yet!

The color is a beautiful golden orange, slighty yellow and visibly carbonated.

I think this aroma is very comparable to PtE, its got strong tropical notes, a beautifully dank hoppy aroma, very citrusy, and piney and earthy as well.

This beer is pretty bitter, not over the top from a hopheads standpoint. This beer has a medium malt backbone that In my opinion provides the balance and slight sweetness that makes this beer so good and complex.

The finish is nice and clean, and dry like a west coast IPA should be.

I feel this should be a higher rated IPA, Double IPA. Its so good, so affordable, more easily attainable. Its got the bitterness and hop character hopheads are looking for. Gotta love Lagunitas, their distro is well done and their beers are world class. Strong recommend.

The color is a beautiful ruby orange with a finger of head.

The aroma is of tropical fruit, grapefruit, dank hoppiness, floral hops, herbacious hops, a bit of resin, and Simcoe pineyness. It’s a very refreshing aroma.

The flavor is of malt, then big grapefruit and some citrus peel. There's some pine and grassiness. The balance is just fantastic. It’s so well balanced.

The finish is clean, easy, and dry. It lingers a bit, but it doesn’t have a stickiness. It’s very dry however, but it has a lovely finish. Don’t get me wrong, it is quite bitter, but it’s exciting. Despite its ABV and bitterness, it is pretty easy to drink.

I really recommend this. This is up there with some of the best West Coast Double IPAs out there. For value, this is one of the best Double IPAs, or even beers in general, you can get at $5-6 a bomber.

Clear amber color with a two finger head with decent retention and leaving laces.
Nice hoppy aroma of grapefruits, oranges, spices, toasted malts and lemon. It won’t go away, stays throughout the whole degustation.
Bitter and citrus flavor with notes of oranges, grapefruit, pine, toasted malts, tea leaves, spices, mango, maple syrup, pineapple and peaches. Dry with a lingering bitter aftertaste but not aggressive considering its 102 IBUs.
Medium body with low carbonation with tiny bubbles. Alcohol of 8% is well disguised.
Very good DIPA, not overly sweet, balancing extremes, fruity, bitter, what else can one ask. I am glad it was a big bottle.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/19/2014. Pours lightly cloudy deep golden amber color with a 2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge mango, papaya, peach, tangerine, passion fruit, pineapple, lemon zest, floral, grass, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Incredible aromas with huge citrus/tropical hop presence with light-moderate malt balance; and great strength. Taste of big mango, papaya, peach, tangerine, passion fruit, pineapple, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of mango, papaya, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, tangerine, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hop flavors with moderate malt sweetness; with a great crisp hop/malt balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, and moderately crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding DIPA! All around awesome complexity of bright citrus/tropical hop flavors with moderate malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Very nice super clear orange-gold with a nice sudsy head. Aroma is dank indeed. Leafy fresh hops, spicy peppery melon, stinky earthy pine, all clean but resinous. Taste is mouthwateringly hoppy, zesty, spicy, syrupy, hop oily, pine needles, resinous with hop crystals. Heavily hopped indeed. The clean malt profile is just enough to provide a nice backdrop for the massive hopping. Good stuff when feeling hoppy.

22 oz. bottle poured into a footed Belgian tulip

Pours a clean, transparent light copper-gold with two fingers of very dense white foam that leaves a lot of nice lacing. The smell is heavy on pungent pine, with a little citrus rind, and faint floral notes. Just a trace of maple-like sweetness.

The first thing I notice is the relatively thin body. The carbonation is lively enough, but the oily, slightly viscous feel I've come to expect from the best DIPAs just isn't there. The taste is good, but unimpressive. A little tropical fruit and grassy dankness offer some balance to the pine-heavy bitterness.

Not terrible by any means. Above average actually. But did not live up to the expectations I have of a Lagunitas IPA. I would put this firmly behind both Maximus and Sucks. In all fairness, this bottle is two months old so I will try a fresher one and re-review if necessary. However, the hops don't seem like the issue so I doubt my opinion will change much.
