My favorite from the folks at Lagunitas. A nicer mix between their IPA and Maximus, of which I like and stock both, so that makes it pretty much the epicenter of the hopquake in my cooler. Now get it to me in a more convenient vessel (12oz bottle) and they won't keep it on the store shelf. Why? Cuz I said so. And when you flirt with becoming a full-blown beeralcoholic, you tend to know what it is that you speak of. (418 characters)

Pours a light golden color with a tall white head that leaves plenty of lace.

Smells of sweet citrus - orange, mango - and floral hops.

Taste is sweet orange and mango with a dry middle that has biscuit notes. It finishes with floral and herbal hop bitterness. An very good II IPA. (285 characters)

I absolutely love Hop Stoopid. It was a Friday ritual for me for a while. It's available, inexpensive and very very hoppy. Hard to beat combination. Cheers! (156 characters)

The hop punch in the face you've been looking for. Definitely not subtle but also not poorly constructed. It has Laguntias' consistent brewing skills on display albeit with less finesse and more hop aggression. Exhausted my palette after a pint. (245 characters)

This beer is wonderful, especially when fresh. I loved this beer (and pricepoint) so much that I named my two prized fancy rats "Hops" and "Stupid"...They are both deceased now but the Hop Stoopid lives on. Great beer for the price, "hippy man's colt 45" (256 characters)

This brew packs a punch! For $5 a bomber, can't beat it. Pours a clear golden body with a generous white head that diminishes to just the surface as you drink. Very nice lacing thru out. Smells are strong hops, citrus and either a pine or evergreen. Taste is actually quite strong. Very up front Hops and a slight burst of citrus. Nice bitter after taste with honts some what sweetness. Das Ist Good Yah?! Very delectable Lagunitas. Very well done.

I'm used to an imperial IPA having some malt presence, maybe more than a standard IPA. This is all hops hops hops. The hoppiest beer I've had but there isn't much else that I can detect going on here. (202 characters)

L: Pours brilliant gold to amber under a dense persistent 3” clingy cream colored foam collar.
S: The fragrance is just above mid-range with grapefruit and grapefruit rind, spice and malt.
T: Big malt flavors give way to a grapefruit rind bitterness with citrus, herbs and spice, faint cardamom. The brewer places more emphasis on hop flavors and character than on hop bitterness.
F: Creamy medium body, very soft carbonation.
O: A deliscious mix of big hop flavors and big malt with a moderate hop bitterness. (517 characters)

Go figure. Finally got to try this one. I see this all over the place but it's always six months old or something. Anyway, had this on draft and was not not disappointed. Very citrus forward and what I detected was a touch of berries. A pretty good, smooth and easy drinking dipa. Wish I could find bottles fresh so I could drink more often. (341 characters)

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass

L: Pours a clear deep amber with a generous white head. The head falls rapidly and laces the glass.

S: Great hop bouquet (evergreens and citrus), malts, and fresh baked bread.

T/F: Bitter hops at the forefront with a nice mix of sweet-ish malts and bitter hops at the finish. Slightly warming from the alcohol. Moderately carbonated and resinous.

O: This is a delicious Imperial IPA, and one of my first true craft beer 'loves'. Every time I revisit Hop Stoopid it's like running into an old friend. I love what Lagunitas does with their brews and this is probably one of their best. (637 characters)

Love other Lagunitas offerings and so wanted to like this one, but not for me. I get the hops aroma up front, but something deeper doesn't smell right. Same with the taste. Decently bitter up front followed by a skank aftertaste. Not a fan (239 characters)

Pours a nice golden orange, with a foamy white one-fingernhead. Leaves nice lacing. Smells a wonderful piney citrus with a somewhat floral with a variety of citrus fruits showing up.
t\Taste is simply lagunitas. Piney resin bitterness that resonates into the nose. Tastes very fresh and hoppy. The finish has a good balance with the malt. I have had this before, and enjoy even more. Great beer especially for the price. $3.99. (436 characters)

- a very very hoppy ale but so sweet with some burnt notes at the end. very complex beer amazing for the cost.
- smooth like silk on the palate
- overall a amazing beer really liked this and for the cost it is untouchable (345 characters)

This is a great IPA. Strong, bright, and bitter. Seems to have some apple flavor when I had it on tap but didn't notice this from a bottle. Good balance and very tasty. One of my favorite beers. yb (197 characters)

Bomber into a Sam Adams glass. Pours a slightly hazy gold with 1 finger of white head. Smells great - lots of pine and grapefruit. Also some mellowed notes of green apples and mango. Medium weight to the body, and very creamy. Grapefruit, pine, and citrus up front with a little bit of spice on the back end. Good amount of hop bitterness, especially towards the middle. Finishes smooth and leaves a tart grapefruit aftertaste.

Very nice. I feel like if Little Sumpin' Ale were redone as an east coast Ale/IPA, this would be the end result. Same taste, same flavors, only more pine (and hops, obviously). Great beer, and at $5.99 for a 22 oz. bottle, I'll be picking this one up pretty regularly. (697 characters)

A reasonably aggressive pour into a Prairie Artisan teku glass produces loads of foamy white head. It's a beautiful crystal clear amber. Smells of grapefruit, mango, melon and a bit of malt. The malt balances the flavor well. There's some bitterness, but the tropical fruit and citrus play together well. Slightly sticky medium mouth. This is a really enjoyable beer, and one of the best values I've come across. (412 characters)

Poured from 22oz bottle into pint glass. Pours a cloudy orange that is pretty hazy. Head is offwhite and massive with lacing. Smell was very malty with notes of citrus coming from the hops. Taste was more malty than expected but finished with a nice crisp hoppy bite. (271 characters)

660ml bottle bought from McHughs, Dublin

Poured a crystal clear golden yellow colour. Slightly off white head poured quite foamy then faded fairly quickly to wispy covering with thick edging... no real carbonation... light patchy lacing...

Aroma - Lots of sharp tropical fruits (pineapples, limes, grapefruits), strong piney resin, citrus and grassy hops, some rubberiness, floral honey, very perfumed, earthy traces, some vanilla, faint talcum powder / chalky notes, light almond nuttiness, some boozy esters...

Taste - Lots of strong piney and citrusy hop bitterness to the fore with some medicinal notes in the background, quite herbal - light hints of basil and rosemary, very floral and perfumed, some light sweet malts come through after the hops, very spicy and juicy fruits (grapefruits, limes, sour apples, pears), some chalkiness, faint vegetal traces...

M&D - Fairly sharp and dry with a little oiliness in the background... medium bodied... probably couldn't drink too many of these in one sitting...

Overall - An excellent and very well balanced DIPA... recommended... (1,086 characters)

No idea on date of this bottle/bomber.
Poured nice orange/yellow.
Great head, but lacking carbonation.
Not as fruity or bitter as I was expecting from some of the reviews I had been reading before opening the bottle.
Lacing nicely after each sip. Not overly hop stoopid... but as I am coming to realize I love hop forward beers.
I not convinced on the double IPA classification but its doing its job...and as I drink more I am picking up the pine and malt.
Worth the $4 and I no longer question buying 2 before tasting. Not feeling as stupid or should I say stoopid. (566 characters)

Purchased at Total Wine, Tampa, 22 oz btl. Looks like a clear, amber ale. Smells of pineapple rind. Tastes of sweet/bitter grapefruit pith and sticky/dank resin. Not overly carbonated, very good beer. 8.5/10 (207 characters)

This is a really nice variety by Lagunitas. I haven't seen it before so I think it is a new brew. It has 8% ABV and 102 IBUs. I'll be happy to review it piece by piece below.

Appearance: This one pours a really nice crisp clear golden color. A light will shine right through and you can see the tiny bubbles coming up through the golden liquid.

Smell: The smell is great, but is a bit too subtle for my liking. A beer that boasts the alcohol and IBUs of this caliber deserves a more aromatic presentation for the smell. It has a great smell, but it is just not very strong. The smell is a bit floral and malty hops that really entices the beholder to take a nice gulp. I get hints of nutty cracker and bubblegum.

Taste: The taste is the best part of course. I get a delayed flavor which is pretty nice, because most beers instantly show their flavors. You take a sip and wait a good one Mississippi and then you'll get a nice malty foundation of creamy honey, but it very quickly fades into waves hops. The hoppy part isn't very bitter which is a fine distinction. The bitterness comes at the very end with a nice resinous coating of the tongue. I also get a hint of fruits like mango and pineapple.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is great. It is smooth and the carbonation is tickling the tongue at the end of each sip.

Overall: I think that this is a great beer for any time of the year. I like that it has a higher ABV so that you can unload after a long hard day and at the end of the first beer you are already having a mild buzz. I think that the IBUs are not excessive as they are balanced by a malty body that makes for a very drinkable beer. Drink it nice and cold and be sure to pour it instead of drinking it out of the bottle. (1,739 characters)

A strong piney smell with a sharp bite but smooth finish. If you like "dank" BIG ales, this is an awesome beer. Lagunitas is a great brewery and this is one of their finest. (174 characters)

From bottle, can't find date. Quality nearly straight hops beer. Not too much sweetness or florally or citrusy flavor going on. Very well put together, a little malt mix is just right. I'd call this a 1.5x, not quite a double, like I do with Southern Tier 2x (my session IPA). I stress how good this beer smells with every sip. Lagunitas makes very nice IPA's and this fits in quite nicely. It stimulates the front of the palate and settles in the back of the mouth with strong hops, but so super smooth you will keep grabbing for more. I repeat a third time, this beer smells awesome! (591 characters)

Poured from bottle into pint glass. An appealing amber-gold color with steady carbonation, with a pinkie-width of dense white foam. Smells of pine, citrus, banana peel, booze. Slams the tongue with a powerful wallop of hop fruitiness and with some malty caramel to balance. A little overwhelming--I never quite find the subtleties other reviewers seem to find. Mouthfeel is a little oily and leaves you smacking your lips from the bitterness. This is a very good double IPA/West Coast hop-bomb. (494 characters)
