A - Light gold colour, nearly perfectly clear, poured with two fingers of head and left a little lace

S - Nice and piney hops coming through

T - Good citrus at first, IBUs seem a little misleading so I'm not sure if some of the hops have aged out (no date but it has had a bit of a trip), alcohol is well hidden

M - Feels a little thin, carbonation is right in the sweet spot

O - A very nice double IPA, easier drinking than most

22 oz Bottle poured into a Belgian chalice

A: Orange, almost resembling cream soda. Really active carbonation and a medium white head.

S: Really strong grapefruit smell. Some malt and hop, but the grapefruit is the overpowering smell.

T: This is a really refreshing beer. Just like the smell the first thing I get is a ridiculously strong grapefruit flavor, with a bitter hop/grapefruit aftertaste.

M: Really carbonated, very light and refreshing. This would be a perfect hot day at the pool beer.

O: It's a solid beer, I like the (somewhat weird?) grapefruit flavors, very drinkable, but I don't think it stacks up well to the rest of Lagunitas' offerings.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Franklin's Brewery & General Store in Hyattsville, MD on 2/13 (no birth date), poured into a 3 Stars snifter glass, drank 3/13/13 over ~two hours.

A: 4.5 - amber-brown coloration, surprising clarity for a 1.085 OG/105 IBU DIPA with little hop haze, less head for style than other PW/CA DIPAs, moderate alcohol legs (clocking in around 8%) -->appearance is my favorite aspect of the beer

S: 4 - tangerine, orange soda...almost smells like a Sunkist or Crush...small garlic/spiciness in the aroma to boot; not getting much dankness/pininess (or Pliny-ness for that matter)

T: 4.25 - not nearly as bitter as expected, some tropical notes (passionfruit, papaya, mango) that lingers into an enjoyable aftertaste, very little maltiness to my palate

M: 3.5 - light-to-medium body, light carbonation for style --> a bit underwhelming

O: 4.25 - for the price (typically $4-7), there aren't many better bargains for an imperial IPA on the market; I haven't had this beer in several years, and, on prior tasting, it's not nearly as bitter as I recall (or my bitter buds have been ablated by lots of IPAs in the intervening years...); I think that it's a little overrated on many websites and discussion boards but still enjoyable...something that I will go back to again when I'm looking for the best DIPA bang for my buck.

Bomber poured into oversized tulip glass

A: Beautiful golden, amber color with 1.5 finger white head. Some bubbles streaming up from the bottom. Nice head retention until you start drinking. For me, it looks like the poster child for the style.

S: Big nose on this one. Lots of citrus, full on west coast smell. Some sweet malt comes through; excellent balance on the smell.

T: For me the bitterness is perfectly balanced. I've had beers with much lower IBU's that made my mouth pucker. This one is so well done. Wonderful grapefruit, orange, mango type flavors coming through. Outstanding.

M: Easy drinker with good drink-ability. Nice level of carbonation. Makes you want more.

O: A most excellent representative of the style. And at 4$ for a bomber it's like they're giving it away. Drink up!
