Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy, deep gold with a nice foamy head, good retention and nice lacing.

Smell: Smells super hoppy to me, with hints of pine and citrus. Nicely aromatic. As the beer warms slightly the malty aroma emerges more.

Taste: I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the flavor of this beer rounds out when compared with the strong hop aroma and the high IBUs. Just as a side-note, I’m still working my taste buds up to super hoppy IPAs and on first pass this smelled as though it would be heavy duty. Has a really clean, hoppy and bitter finish to it with a slight sweetness that lingers in the mouth afterward.

Mouthfeel: Nice, creamy medium-bodied beer that goes down smooth has very well-balanced carbonation. Follows the typical mouthfeel that is characteristic with most Lagunitas brews.

Overall: Fits the bill for hop heads and non-hop heads alike – a very good middle-of-the-road and well-balanced IPA that should be a real crowd pleaser. Yet another good brew from Lagunitas.

Poured from a bomber into a large wine glass. Clear champagne color pour with a relatively small and lace less head for an IPA, especially one with a lot of hops.

Nose is very citrus and pine with just a touch of malt. A lot of grapefruit in the aroma, but it works.

Flavor is well-balanced, much more than I expected given the name. Was worried it was going to be too over the top, but the light malt in the nose is much more present in the flavor and helps to balance the beer.

Mouth feel is light, and good for an IPA. Carbonation suits the beer well.

A very good beer, with a strong ABV kick, that is enjoyable and has a good mix of hops.

Bottled 12.03.13

Pours clear golden color with a finger of white head. Decent retention and some lacing.

Big tropical citrus aroma, some peach, resiny hops, some pine, light mint, very hop forward.

Citrusy hops upfront then bitterness hits. Not a lot of balance to speak of but highly drinkable.

Feel is on point for the style. Slightly dry finish with lingering bitterness.

Nice DIPA. Great for the price.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 4.49. Served in a Terrapin snifter.

Pours an attractive clear gold with two fingers of quickly receding pale frothy head that leaves small splotches of lace behind.

Smells of grapefruit, pine, citrus and sweet bread.

Taste is on par with the aroma. Pine, citrus rind, grapefruit, pepper and biscuity sweet bread. A little booze in there but nothing that distracts from those nice hops.

Slick medium feel with just enough carbonation to keep it lively. Lingering bitter finish.

Other than the fact that Lagunitas still doesn't bottle date, I'm not sure why I don't drink this more often. It's a great Imperial IPA that's available year round and an outstanding value. I never have a problem drinking 22oz of this classic.
