I got Stoopid with a tulip glass.

Appearance- The foam is only a slight layer of white. It is filmy and fizzy with a smooth cap. The transparent body has a steady flow of carbonation columns and is a bronze-orange in color.

My second pour yielded almost two-fingers of the white and foamy bubbles, which led me to bump the score. There is also very good sheet lacing on the side of the glass.

Smell- Hop Stoopid has a nose full of the leafy, green beauties. They are citrus in character, a little sweet, and slightly funky. The profile hints at passion fruit and pineapple. The funk is earthy and a little peppery in nature.

Taste- The front of the drink has a distinct bitterness, but not 100 + IBU bitterness. The first flavors to really develop are the citrus-like flavor hops. There is more grape fruit here and less of the pineapple.

Then the malt joins the fray, which is distinctly sweet, but it does not really try to "smooth" out the drink. Tt just gives a hint of vanilla and biscuit-wheat.

The finish is fairly long and bitter; the passion fruit and grape fruit are still at play, with the malt backing off just a little bit.

Mouth feel- The feel is great for a DIPA: medium bodied, definitely bitter, and a good deal of coating.

Overall- If the palate was a reflection of the nose, it would be an even more outstanding offering. However, somewhere along the line, Hop Stoopid loses some of the potency of the sweet-citrus nose and gets replaced by slightly wheaty and biscuit malt.

The bitterness is certainly here in spades, but I was expecting a more jarring experience from the high IBU's. Definitely have it. I know I would gladly get Stoopid again.

I love hops and understand the appeal of a beer with a ridiculous amount of hops. Love the 120 Minute offering for example. But this is just over the top. It has so much hops that it actually gets kinda skunky. Some people may like hops so much that this is tolerable, but not me.

22 oz bottle.

Clear, golden body with a decent, off-white head full of tightly packed bubbles. Takes awhile to settle down, leaving some nice lacing.

Pungent onion hops, with doses of grass, flowers and citrus on the nose as well. Some cracker malts on the nose as well.

Tons of concentrated hop flavors: green onions, pine and fresh cut grass with some citrus sourness as well. Very thin malt base gives a dry cracker flavor to it. Even with the thin malt, base, this is a pretty well balanced beer. Mouthfeel is slick with hop oils, with a good dose of carbonation.

Poured from 22oz into tulip taster.
Pours copper color with good lacing.
Smells of hops.
Taste of big hop...slight malty but rrally big skunky funk.
I hate to say it, but I'm not a fan of this brew. Its got a very bitter aaftertaste and its somewhat hard to drink. It tastes like a batch gone bad. I really don't like this brew at all. Its to bitter...its too hoppy, and not balanced at all.
Gross brew from a great brewery.

There's a clearness to it...quite clear. It has a big bubbly white head and there's a ton of lacing. A few bubbles. Wonderful weed-like scent to it.

There's a slight bit of an intense bitterness that is mixed with a floralness, that isn't overbearing...but toes on the line.

Bottled 11/17/11

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Bruery tulip.

A: Pours a clear light amber colour. 2 fingers of dense off white head with good retention and lacing.

S: Nice balance of sweet malts and citrusy hops.

T: Very similar to the nose. This beer is very well balanced. Great malt flavor and a real nice hop profile. Nice lingering butter dry finish.

M: Lively, prickly mouthfeel. Moderate body and moderate carbonation.

Overall this a great DIPA. Great value and even better flavor. I'm really upset that it's not readily available in my area. NEPA'd

What a pour! Terrific snow capped head, straw color, medium carbonation. Sticky lacing on the first sip, continues all the way until the final sip. Scents are of strong pine needles and pungent wicked grapefruit. Wow is this hoppy and bitter. Not much balance for a DIPA. Great brew for an extreme hop head, and although a really good beer, especially in scent and appearance but a bit too tilted toward the hops. One of the hoppiest beers I've ever had. Just not something I could deal with but a couple times a year.
