Had forgotten how good this is, and in these days of $10+ bombers what a great value it remains.

Pungent, dank hops-- a bit more of the onion-y style than I remember (But I like that!). This is in contrast to the more fruity hops of Sucks.

What's old is new and what's new is old... definitely bringing this back as a go-to DIPA for me. (340 characters)

22oz bomber poured into snifter

Appearance: pours light copper translucent color with some visible carbination. White 1.5 finger head. Some alcohol lacing

Aroma: orange and grapefruit at first. More like ruby red grapefruit juice. Sweet smelling

Taste: nice sweet hoppy taste, juicy grapefruit hop flavor. Some resinous flavor as well. Not too bitter for a double ipa. Sweetness balances it out nicely.

Mouthfeel. Medium body light lingering carbination.

Overall: at 5.99 for a bomber of a beer this quality it's a tremendous value. Reminds me of sucks a lot in some ways. Just a delicous solid double ipa (611 characters)

Ok this is the second time I have come here and bumped this beer up. This is by far the smoothest DIPA I have ever had. This is going on my dangerous beer list as I find myself drinking it way too fast (203 characters)

I'm I the only one who thinks this smells skunky like a Euro lager? I would have bet money there was a Heineken or Lowenbrau in the glass. Just wondered if this is normal. Taste a lot better than the aroma would suggest. Hops seem pretty muted though. Thinking an old bottle. (275 characters)

Ok, so I am going to probably get slammed for saying this but here goes. This beer was awful. Heard all the hype. I don't know, maybe I got a bad bomber? The taste was so bad I spilled this out! Not even in the same league as other American DIPA's. In my opinion, American DIPA's rank in this order. 1. Heady Topper (duh). 2. Lawson's Double Sip of Sunshine. 3. Russian River Pliny the Elder. 4. Neshaminy Creek's The Hops of Things to Come. 5. Ballast Point Sculpin. Skip this. If you can get your hands on any of the others I listed, get it. Cheers! (584 characters)

Bomber poured into a Belgian style tulip glass.

Appearance: Looks really good in the glass, poured kind of hazy, but cleared, very bright white head, nice lacing, some bubble stream. This the beer's strength.

Aroma: Big hop, citrusy aromas on the nose, smells really good.

Taste: Compared to the nose the taste is not as citrusy. I was expecting more from the taste but it's a letdown. A small hop citrusy flavor, then some malt, bitterness finishes it up.

Overall: After smelling the nose I was awaiting a big juicy citrusy hop bomb but all I got was a minor juicy citrusy hop flavor, some malt and bitterness. Really disappointed in the flavor but then again this could be an old bottle as I don't see any dates on it. I've had IIPAs that have lost their hop flavors and I think this bottle might be old. (811 characters)

This beer is as advertised - it has crazy amounts of hop bitterness. It needed the malt balance of a double IPA in order to prevent your mouth from completely closing shut at the astringency of the extreme hop profile. I tend not to rate the 90+ IBU beers quite as highly as Ba's gen pop and this one is no exception. (317 characters)

Pours a bright murky dark straw colour with fluffy white head that dissipates and leaves some lacing.

Nose hits you in the face with hops. Citrus grapefruit and sweet malt but the hops are overwhelming.

Taste is a juicy citrus beginning with a nice bitter finish.

Excellent. I think I prefer Sucks but this is really good. (328 characters)

A- bright, clear honey golden brew. Two fingers of gorgeous, dense white head with excellent retention. Clumpy lacing. Lots of visible, fast moving bubbles.

S- holy hops. Lots of pine and citrus. Biscuity malt backbone with a strong aroma of caramel.

T- light pine up front, which is quickly washed away by a clean citrus mid palate. The finish is still very citrus heavy with a hind of bready malt.

M- very clean. Highly carbonated, it foams up on contact with the tongue. Medium bodied.

O- really enjoyable. I'll be drinking this one again in the near future. (582 characters)

Pouring from a bottle reveals a deep copper with lasting large yellow foam head. Smell is strongly citrus. Mouthfeel is light and delicate. Taste - hoppy, citrus, flowery but almost nothing in the bitterness department. 8% ABC is balanced well.

So far my opinion of this beer is a hoppy citrusy dry IPA without much body or complexity. Definitely would be a go-to beer at an average restaurant or bar, but with all the great IPA's in california I don't think this one stands out to me in particular. (506 characters)

By far, my favorite beer. Just a downright hoppy taste that just has your mouth drooling of hop juice.

Edit: still very hoppy but a bit more malty than I remembered (165 characters)

As soon as i popped the cap hops showed up in the room, so this should be great.
Pours hazy orange, small sticky head, slowly receding.
Smells greatly hoppy, lots of pine, hop oil, a hint of dankness, pineapple, tangerine and peach, faint kiwi, sweetened with possibly sticky-sweet caramel malt. A big bucket of leafy hops, in short.
Fruity hops in the front, lots of tangerine, bittersweet pink grapefruit, maracuja, faint lychee, mango, faint melon. All thrown on a mild caramel canvas, not that sticky, being immediately followed/pummeled by huge pine resin, green, gooey hop extract, really concentrated, really bitter and quite dry.
Good thing about it is that quite some flavor passes through to the aftertaste, after a long very bitter finish. There's a nice tropical note (mango, pineapple syrup), a bit of malt sweetness (just enough) and nice grapefruit peel. Aside the ton'o'hops, that is. Medium body, prickly carbonation (spot on), a bit of alcohol warmth.
A huge bitter Imperial IPA packed with tons of flavor, nicely layered, refreshing, straight to the top. (1,073 characters)

I have recently been introduced to Hop Stoopid. I like it, IMO is great balanced beer with good flavor, a nice aroma and a good Alc.
It has a solid hop flavor that you expect from any good IPA. (193 characters)

Stinky. Oily. Dense. Had this beer many times but picked up some really fresh bombers (bottle date 323 day of the year) and was damn near blown away. And they're $6 each! Btw my stoopid burps are all part of the experience. Great brew. (235 characters)

Pours a beautiful golden-yellow color, which is surprisingly clear. The weird thing about this is as you look at the carbonation bubbles through the glass, it seems like they are suspended in jelly. Weird, huh???. Anyway, head is nice, big and fluffy and lacing is ample, clinging and simmering to the inside of the glass. Aroma is heavy on piny hops and some citrus(grapefruit and lemon, maybe. Taste definitely has the IBU's and the pine resin, grapefruit rind and other assorted citrus comes through, maybe not so balanced, but bold and a hop lover's dream. Feels good on the palate, kind of thick, but overall, an IPA that all would love for the boldness. Good stuff, here!! (678 characters)

As a founding member of the self proclaimed hophead society, I rate this hoppy brew a top selection. Good hops but not over the top, velvety head and a fine lingering after taste. (179 characters)

would have rated lower if i could have, i am an avid IPA/ DIPA lover and drinker and this was one of the worst and most undrinkable beers I've ever came across, the smell initially smells like you took a mix of all the beers left over from a college dorm party put them into a bottle then sprayed the insides with skunk spray. it was so disgusting that it ruined the beer before it touché you tounge.

the taste relates that smell 100% old skunked over hopped beer that has zero balance and should have never been put into main stream distribution.

please save your 5 dollars and buy something better then this. as in a 6 pack of Busch that sits in the 100 degree heat for a week then flash chilled would taste 100 times better (731 characters)

Appearance: Clear medium amber in color, with a moderate, persistent, dense off-white head. Thick, sticky lacing adorns the glass walls. The carbonation is slight and slow-rising.

Aroma: Dense caramel opens the aroma, along with delicate tropical fruit notes and pungent pine tar hops. There is more than a bit of spicy and vinous alcohol, to be expected, considering the high ABV.

Taste: Sweet caramel, and spicy alcohol immediately present at the opening of the taste. Soon after, a strong wave of light tropical fruit and pine tar, both courtesy of the hops, present. As the taste progresses, the sweet alcohol and hops vie for supremacy, with the caramel fading a bit. Finishes with a long, lingering tropical fruit and pine tar hop flavor, and sweet alcohol.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, very full, pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: A fine example of an Imperial IPA and a wonderful accompaniment to a cold autumn day.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twenty-two ounce brown glass bomber with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice. (1,058 characters)

Certainly hoppy but a very decent profile. Piney, bitter, citrusy and sweet and all very balanced. An excellent beer with a name that may mislead some beer geeks into prejudging it. (181 characters)

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Clear amber color with a generous-sized, light beige head that gradually faded. A nice looking DIPA

Smell: Piney hop aromas dominate but there are some bready notes and mild sweet citrus notes..

Taste:The pine aromas carry over to the taste and dominate. there are some mild sweet citrus notes but the pine notes are the feature. The finish ends fairly dry with some moderate pine notes.

Mouth-feel: on the light side of medium-bodied.with a medium level of carbonation.

Overall: Good DIPA that i finally got around to trying. (545 characters)
