look: 5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25

Appearance:
Rich, copper colored body. Translucent. Plenty of carbonation and fine sediment create a mesmerizing spiraling effect. Crowned with a soft, thick bone-white head that sticks around for the duration of the beer leaving an incredible amount of lacing behind. Easily the best beer I've ever seen.

Aroma:
Gobs of sweet, sweet caramel and trace brown sugar are front and foremost. Very malty with no detectable hop presence. Faint notes of dark fruit break through.

Taste:
Plenty of malt with equal amounts of toasty caramel. Fresh biscuits and light almond character. Not as sweet as the nose and light, earthy bitterness probably has a lot to do with this. Roasted character becomes more prevalent as temperature increases. Nice roasted aftertaste is always present.

Mouthfeel:
A smooth, medium body houses plenty of carbonation. Finish is on the drier side of things but enjoyable. Sediment is decent in size and can lend a chewy character towards the end of the glass.

Overall:
I was blown away by this one. I expected a good product, but wow! I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Easy to drink, easy to enjoy. Refreshing... What are you waiting for? Grab this one! (1,174 characters)

As the label proclaims this has a rich copper hue and a stiff thick head of off white foam. There's a large number of carbonation bubbles that course through the body that weakens the appearance.

The nose is a malt bomb. Molasses, maple, tea leaves, even prune, date and raisin all come to the surface.

The flavor reminds me of figs, with sorghum and caramel malt. I get a bit of molasses and maple with a back of pecans.

The feel is quite thick, very smooth with a bitter after taste.

Very unorthodox in its approach this copper ale is nicely diverse and quite flavorful. (576 characters)

A: The beer is clear amber in color and has no visible signs of carbonation. It poured with an off white head that died down leaving some lacing on the surface and a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are sweet aromas of caramel in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and has notes of caramel and toasted malts in the flavor along with hints of sweetness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is easy to drink and goes down rather smoothly. (550 characters)

Like the bottle says pours a rich copper color with an slightly off white head that sticks around for quite awhile I was also suprised by the higher carbonation level wich I wasn expecting.Wow alot of difeerent melding aromas going on somecaramel and butter toffee with a nice underlying piney hop that made this very delectable on the nose. The taste is big and sweet up front but man do the hops come in to dry this out just enough to make a perfect balance, caramel and roasted nuts turn into pine and grapefruit in the finish. Now this was a joy to drink complex and flavorful,I will buy again in the future. (609 characters)

Appearance – It’s copper all right. The dark brownish-orange coloring looks just like a copper pipe. The head was nice but went down rather quickly. It did leave a little lacing though, so all is well.

Smell – Nice orange rind hops are complimented by floral scents and a light sweetness.

Taste – The hop flavor is sharp yet not over-the-top. It’s a wonderful mix of different types of hop flavors. The pine taste is big as well. It ends very dry and hoppy, but not bitter. This is good stuff.

Mouthfeel – Almost no carbonation and very dry. Not a hint of the 7.7 ABV.

Drinkability – I could easily get trashed on this stuff. It went down extremely well and failed to warn of the rather hefty ABV. (716 characters)

This beer has a great amber color and is very clear. It has a healthy head, mild aroma, and great initial taste. A solid mouth feel with moderate sweetness and only a hint of hops finishes it nicely. It was much better than other Lagunitas offerings I've tried. I'll definitely have it again. (292 characters)

I thoroughly enjoyed this beer. This was my first beer by Lagunitas Brewing Co. & it was a pleasant experience. I found it had a good amount of malty sweetness along with a nice hoppy finish which lent to a well balanced beer. A wonderful copper color, as well. I would definitely buy this beer again, & would also be interested in some of the other Lagunitas beers. (366 characters)

This is one that I have been wanting to try for awhile and I just got around to it. The beer poured a nice burnt orange/copper color with a decent white head that settled into a small layer of head that left great spider web lace down the glass. The smell did not impress that much, with a pretty earthy malt scent and not much else. The taste is quite simple with a great malt profile, not much in the way of hops but the malt is not overly sweet so it tends to balance out. Slight carmel notes in the flavor as well. The mouthfeel is excelent on this one though, very smoothe and crisp and very drinkable. The 7.7% cannot be tasted at all but can for sure be felt so I think this one would make a very good session beer by flavor but the session would not last that long! Good stuff though. (792 characters)

Purchased from Three Cellars in Franklin, WI. Pours a bright, clear copper color with no head to speak of. Aroma of bready malts and sweet toffee. Medium bodied and fairly smooth with subtle carbonation. Sweet flavor with barely a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. I wouldn't call it balanced, but it is very good if you like sweeter ales. (343 characters)

As expected for a strong ale, copper/caramel color. Half inch off white head, reduced to a thin layer of bubbles.

Light aroma in my opinion. Mostly hops though consisting of all kinds of aromas. A little floral mainly but has some herbal characteristics as well. Sweet bread and a touch of caramel malts come through as well. Just not as complex as other strongs I've had.

Fairly bitter brew and it is noticable as soon as it hits the tongue. Resiny and herbal hops. A touch of bread malts show though. A little too much hops for the style for me, not quite enough malty characteristics. Tastes a lot like an IPA really. One high point though is that it hides the alcohol very well.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin, pushing medium bodied, but I'd expect a bit more body. Has a fair amount of carbonation which gives it a crisp feel.

Decent drinkability overall as an IPA, as a strong ale falls short compared to others out there. Decent flavor with lots of hops, and goes down really easy. This is a decent beer, but falls short within the style. (1,050 characters)

A_Copper with a slight reddish tint. Small white head with little lacing.

S_Floral hops and sweet malt.

T_Sweet malt, caramel and floral hops. A malt forward red with a hefty addition of hops for back up. Sweet and semi bitter. Nicely balanced with a little spice.

M_Medium bodied and creamy.

D_Very drinkable. One of my favorites of the style. (347 characters)

Updated review:
12 oz bottle poured into a Weizen glass.
A - Dark copper body with coppery head retains well. Nice lace.

S - Unable to pick out anything significant.

T - Wonderfully smooth. Nice clean caramel taste.

M - Smooth, malty feel, kind of tart.

D - Very drinkable. A nice break from my usual hop forward preferences allowing my mouth to recover. Good to relax with. (378 characters)

Pours a nice copper color with an off-white head but a huge amount of floating chunks of yeast. Not at all appealing.
Aroma is big on toffee and caramel notes.
Tastes pretty good. Biscuits and toffee with a nice bitter bite at the end.
Mouthfeel is medium and fairly well carbonated.
Not bad but the floaties were not pleasant. Won't buy again. (345 characters)

Reddish copper with a thin head. Roasty malt on the nose, a little chocolate, cherry perhaps. Sweet, but not overpowering. Nice flavor. Malt lingers and dances on your tongue.

Nicely complemented by some Achadinha Capricious aged goat cheese. Makes for a great Petaluma 1-2 punch. (282 characters)
