At first, this beer kept reminding me of ribs, and bbq sauce. That's probably because of the strong malt presence. But this beer is balanced very nicely. Amber ales aren't my favorite style, but the malt is smooth and there is not too much bitterness on the back end. Above average beer.

355 ml bottle, as Lagunitas The Censored Rich Copper Ale, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV not mentioned on the label. Amber to copper colour, moderate off-white head. Fairly nice aroma of caramel and fruity hops, hints of old orange marmalade. The medium sweet flavour has also notes of caramel and a little fruit, but lacks hops and "freshness". Drinkable, but I expected more from Lagunitas.

From notes 10/31/11: Pours slightly hazy copper orange with 1.5 fingers of rapidly dissipating head. Aroma is bready, fruit, toast, roasted nuts, black pepper and thin coco. Taste is toasted bread, sweet malt, dark fuit, dried apples floral and earthy with little intrusion of other hop flavors. Well married to provide a very balanced beer. Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium bodied with decent carbonation, smooth and dry.

Pretty spectacular and a welcome change from a slightly boring along with an overdone flavor profile of beers. This one breaks away from the pack with tastes of copper and malty sweetness.

From notes taken 06/28/17:
Clear copper-amber with pulpy, weightless, abundant but loose flecks of varying size. Foamy, frothy head of cream, both color and texture. A “mustache" of lace, so to speak. Aroma is rich indeed, reminds me of a number of good Belgian ales, some spiciness, touch of vinegar, candy sugar, vegetable broth, nothing super hoppy or even boozy, more so malt and yeast. Palate only partially bears this out in the balance, it is toasty, metallic, spicy, with heavy suggestions of caramel and toffee, but with a more substantial showing of hops ranging from resin and faint lemon throughout, to leaf matter and almost leather around the finish, to peppercorn in the retro-olfaction via combination with a boozy afterbreath. Full-bodied, creamy, with fine tingly suds soon stretching themselves to the finest velvet. Good, in an unexpected way. Compare and contrast both with American Ambers and Belgians ales along the lines of the Double, the Saison, and the Dark.
