look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3 | feel: 4 | overall: 3

Poured a dark copper color with a thick 2-finger beige head of tightly laced, thick foam that held amazingly well (4.5)The aroma is heavily citrus-hop based (sharp grapefruit) with a sweet caramel background. (4.0)

Taste starts out bready with malty caramel tones that give way to a sharp hop bite. I think its extremely palatable but the abruptness with which the hops appear and disappear is strange - there is relatively little mouth coating and no weighty lingering aftertaste as I've come to expect with strong ales (or is this a IIPA?). (3.0)

The body is somewhat thick and there is low-moderate carbonation. Taking into account its ABV I'd say that one of these would be pleasant, but plenty. (3.0)

Would say, "you should definitely try that" if it were available, but probably wouldn't actively seek it out.

I purchased this from Wegman's, enjoyed chilled from the 12oz brown bottle in a teku.

The color is brilliant bronze with great clarity and thick full pale cream with 2 fingers depth and fine bead with excellent retention and lace sticks in a camouflage type random pattern. The smell is a mix of citrus from the hops and light malt sweet scents with hints of berry and light alcohol odor. The feel is very good - emphasis on the bitterness fades into a more balanced feel with medium carbonation and slight sweetness mid palate with a nice amount of alcohol for the style and semi-dry finish.

The taste is a complex blend of citrus ans spice flavors from NW hops and some yeast in the taste which brings a fruity dark berry quality with moderately sweet almost caramel flavor in the malt which supports the hop bitterness. The alcohol is relatively subdued and emphasizes a slight spice/pine-like element more toward the finish but there is still enough sweetness to blanket the palate as it finishes smooth. Overall I like the intensity it is a little sweeter than most in this style, could almost be blurring the lines of English barleywine but is very hoppy which is why I think it fits the style of American Strong well - pretty drinkable but I would share this if possible.
