Poured from their 12oz bottle...

Appearance - Poured nearly 3 fingers of light khaki eggshell foam, body is a perfectly transparent copper amber,

Smell - Toasted malts, nearly burnt toffee, some rich sweet dark fruits, pumpernickel bread.

Taste - Starets with sweet toasted breadcrusts, minerals, burnt toffee, pungent floral hops, and then herbal hops like coriander and a touch of cilantro, and something else there, almost like rye. I get some grapefruit pith long into the finish with burnt rye crusts.

Mouthfeel - Medium mouthfeel, carb is nearly medium and quite smooth, but gets some edges near the back of the tongue. Fairly easy to drink, although it dries out (somewhat chalky feeling) near the end of each quaff.

Overall - A very unique ale with nice complexity, balance and unique flavors. Definitely a good one to seek out if you want something a bit different.

12oz bottle to pint glass

A - Pours deep amber. Rich, frothy head without any effort. Great retention.

S - Rich and fruity. Citrus. Little alcohol bite to the nose.

T - Rich and bold brew here. Hops on the front end, slight alcohol as you would expect by the ABV, bit of spice and a subtle smoke malt back end. Best enjoyed as it warms.

M - Very satisfying. Definitely one to savor due to the high ABV. Slight carbonation, not too thin. Great aftertaste.

O - I really enjoyed this one. Great for a nightcap or when you want something with a bit more kick. Enjoy. Cheers.

What a wonderful beer! I've been a fan of Lagunitas for a while but never saw this on the shelf till recently. It pours a beautiful brown into my IPA glass with a nice thick 1 inch head. It reminds me of a slightly hoppier DFH 90 minute. A very nice hoppes presence but with a malty end. All in all, a very good beer with a well hidden kick.

I purchased this from Wegman's, enjoyed chilled from the 12oz brown bottle in a teku.

The color is brilliant bronze with great clarity and thick full pale cream with 2 fingers depth and fine bead with excellent retention and lace sticks in a camouflage type random pattern. The smell is a mix of citrus from the hops and light malt sweet scents with hints of berry and light alcohol odor. The feel is very good - emphasis on the bitterness fades into a more balanced feel with medium carbonation and slight sweetness mid palate with a nice amount of alcohol for the style and semi-dry finish.

The taste is a complex blend of citrus ans spice flavors from NW hops and some yeast in the taste which brings a fruity dark berry quality with moderately sweet almost caramel flavor in the malt which supports the hop bitterness. The alcohol is relatively subdued and emphasizes a slight spice/pine-like element more toward the finish but there is still enough sweetness to blanket the palate as it finishes smooth. Overall I like the intensity it is a little sweeter than most in this style, could almost be blurring the lines of English barleywine but is very hoppy which is why I think it fits the style of American Strong well - pretty drinkable but I would share this if possible.
