I had at Boulevard Tavern in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

A. It has a deep red/copper color. It is mostly see-through, with a bit of haze. There's a good two-finger tan head with some solid lacing.

S. It has a hoppy, cherry scent.

T/M. This is extremely sweet. It has a cherry or raspberry taste. A touch of caramel. It is quite sugary. It is smooth with a mild alcohol hit underneath.

O. A bit too sweet and the the alcohol hit--almost like vodka--gives it a cough syrup taste. It's fine for a summer beer, but I'll pass next time.

The Beers of California

Bottled Date: None

A: Topped with a creamy white foam, this brew appears amber brown with honey hues in the glass.

S: Earth, sugar, and honey hold steady as pine and citrus aromatics jet forward attacking the nostrils.

T: As with the nose, the malt presence here is substantial with honey sweet breadiness along with toffee and caramel notes. There is also strong pine and tangerine citrus notes that build to an earthy, syrupy bitterness. The alcohol comes through in the finish but remains balanced with the component flavors.

M: Medium to full with a robust syrupy linger and ample supporting carbonation.

O: Pegged as a strong ale but reminiscent of an American barleywine, this beer is well executed showcasing wonderful and synergistic malt and hop characteristics. In the "Big Brother is Watching" age that we live in, this beer is a reminds us that we can still be true to ourselves.

Served from the bottle into a globed glass

A- Poured a very rich, dark, and bright red color, big fluffy off-white head with big bubbles, left splashy lace

S- Big pungent grapefruit, piney, and big barleywine sweetness

T- Big rich caramel, toffee, and barleywine sweetness. Lots of pungent piney hops, some grapefruit, Pretty assertive bitterness but lots of sweetness to balance it out.

M- Fuller bodied, slightly syrupy, finishes very dry, some big alcohol warming but no burn

O- A highly drinkable ale with big malt and hop character. Lots of flavor and unique flavor profile.
