Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #43 (Aug 2010):

Hoppy wheat is what the beer geeks are callin' for. This beer has a thick, wheat-induced head and clear, pale amber color. It has some sweet breadiness underneath a big tide of hop aroma. It's super smooth and easy to drink. It has a thick flavor of soft, floral and fruity hops, and the bitterness is there, but nothing too sharp--more like dried grass or tobacco. This beer has a bit of a snappy, dry malt character and is faintly yeasty with some warming esters. The hops stay on the palate far into the aftertaste. This one has it all figured out--an amazing ale.

L (4.25) - This beer pours a nice dark golden color. A little more orange than red. Nice layer of head on top. Surprisingly clear, which I wasn't expecting.

S (5) – Smells fantastic. Get a little pine smell and some bitter/tangy smells. Makes you immediately want to dive in.

T (4.25) – Really good taste. You get that upfront bitter, and that same piney taste at the end. It almost has a better aftertaste than taste. And that’s no insult! I didn’t get a lot of malt or grain taste. I like a little bit of that to balance the hops.

F (4) – Good mouthfeel. Thin and light on the tongue. Appropriate carb level, IMO

O (4.25) – Very good beer overall. I only had one, and really wanted another. I don’t know if I’d want to drink it all the time, but I will add it to my regular rotation.

Great to see another limited release offering from one of favorite brewers here in my area.I poured two into a imperial nonic with it coming out a clear lighter golden with a 1/2 finger white that was quick to fade.Ahh yeah bigtime in your face citric hop in the nose along with a touch of sweet alcohol and very light toasted wheat malt, the hop profile in the nose is just great.Intense grapefruit rind and tangerine hop flavors hit up front on the palate and then some caramel toffee shows thru along with a fading toasted what touch in the finish.Yeah it has bigtime hop wich kicks arss but there really is more to it.My new favorite American pale wheat its slightly better than Gumballhead in my book. The drinkability is just awesome for the ABV%.

This is the best IPA I've had. I'm not a fan of IPAs but this was up my alley! Nice grapefruit taste, lower IBU bitterness than a lot of IPAs (64 IBU), and that wheat beer mix makes it much more drinkable than a lot of IPAs.

I know that they consider this a "American Pale Wheat Ale" but this is an IPA to me. It tastes just like Hop Nosh but toned down (that's an IPA.. which I do like). However you categorize this as it is tasty to me! This is better than Hop Nosh. That wheat does wonders for this beer.

I read the beer advocate description for "American Pale Wheat Ale" and it says its an Americanized version of a Hefe Weizen. That gets me interested! You know what, I don't want to call this an IPA any more since I don't like IPA that much. Sign my name on the petition for APWA!

Pours golden orange, mostly opaque and cloudy with a somewhat thin, wispy white head. Decent lacing left along the sides of the glass, more so during the latter half of the beer. Nose is a cornucopia of fruits and sweetness; grapefruits, apricots, grapes, raisins, pears. It has a nice rum and booze-like aroma overshadowing the whole thing, too. Taste follows right along with the fruit heavy theme, also adding slight orange to the mix. The booze flavor is noticeable as well, but adds a nice complexity to the flavor profile rather than hindering things. Wheat and yeast heavy all around; grains and biscuits finish things off and show up strong in the aftertaste. Another big flavor that comes out quite a bit after the beer has already been swallowed - burnt sugar, like the top of a creme brulee. Very interesting and very taste. Hop flavors are weedy, musky, and heavily vegetal. Medium body, lots of carbonation.

Very unique beer, tasty, no doubt. Possibly a little too sweet at first, but it mellows out nicely and turn into one hell of a drinker. Wheaty and fruity all around, with a nice alcohol warming through and through. Not sure if I'm in love with some of the hop flavors, though.

I was surprised twice with this brew. First, I didn't notice anywhere on this bottle that it was a wheat beer, I hate wheat beer!! I bought it because Lagunitas makes some damn fine beer, but make a wheat beer taste good, I don't think so. Therein was the second surprise, it was a fine brew.

Clear enough to read through the glass. Single finger head, but it relaxes slowly. The color is neutral amber. Lots of classic pine needle hop aroma--like an IPA balanced with a fruitiness.

The flavor matches the aroma. Noteworthy alcohol feel and flavor. Good hop bite almost from the beginning. The body is rich and gives an element of rounded malt tastes. I don't really note any wheat in this one, it's a very good pale ale.

Reviewed from notes on 9/3/10.

A: Pours a light straw-gold into a standard pint glass. A milky white one and a half finger head retains like crazy. Billows of carbonation plume up from the bottom of the glass. The lacing is a combination of clumps and splashy curves.

S: Fragrant and fresh pineapple and orange aromas drift out of the glass. I can tell that this is a wheat beer by the base aroma, but the hop presence is large and in charge. Sweet tropical fruit and citrus blend with a slight banana and clove wheat beer profile.

T: A nice, semi-bitter hop taste grips the sides of my palate for the length of the sip, while the sweet tropical fruit and citrus flavors release over my tongue. This is a very interesting collision between characteristics of a wheat beer and a hoppy APA or IPA. I like it - it's sweet, yet biting.

M: This is a crisp and light feel with a touch of creaminess and a lovely dry hop kick. The hops dry out the creamy sweetness of the beer for a palate cleansing dry finish.

D: Quite a take on a wheat ale and really a phenomenal idea. Douse a wheat ale with hops and see what happens. What happens is yumminess.

Hazy brass colored pour with a slight head that leaves little to no lace. The brassy hued brew is only mildly carbonated. Great hopa nd malt balance. Really nice hop finish behind a sweet malt overtone. The piney hops don't overpower the malt sweetness but rather compliment the malt profiles. Very tastey and drinkable beer.
