appearance - Not sure. I drank it straight from the bottle. That is never something I do, but it was the situation.

smell: Smell was wonderful citrus.

taste: Taste is terrific. Their website says the used all the hops that begin with the letter "C" and I believe them, what with the citrus bomb that this beer is!

mouthfeel: Shame on me for drinking it out of the bottle, it was way too carbonated that way.

overall: Lagunitas does it again with a style that I am really liking - American wheats.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a nearly clear medium cold with a rock solid one finger white head. Really amazing head retention and strong lacing cleaning to the sides of the glass.

Aroma is packed full of tropical fruit. Tangerine and pineapple along with cut grass. A little bit of bready malt is buried underneath but the citrus hops totally dominate.

Flavor is a hop wallop from the get go. Very juicy and heavy on pineapple, mango, and orange. Some cut grass sneaks in but takes a back seat to the tropical fruit. Bitterness is moderate to high and is long lasting. There is some sweetness here but it is nicely balanced by the bitterness. Not much malt flavor, maybe some bread, with a nice soft wheat mouthfeel.

Overall, a really good beer and probably my favorite so far from Lagunitas. Awesome example of the style and dangerously drinkable with the 7.5% completely hidden. One to pick up whenever possible.

The Beers of California

#26

Freshness Date: None

A: Golden orange, hazy, with a cap of white foam which fades to generous blankets of bubbles clinging to the glass.

S: Strong, fresh pine, citrus and a bit of cut grass. Tangerine brightness with a background of flaky cracker malt.

T: Earthy and bright following the nose. Pine, herbs, and grass topped off with freshly squeezed tangerine bitter-sweetness. Grainy, soft cracker, biscuit-like maltiness. A touch of pineapple and mango ending with more warming, pleasant bitterness.

M: Medium bodies with ample carbonation and good linger.

O: Paired with an awesome burger from Hole in the Wall on the westside of LA, which I would say leaves Umami and even Father's Office in the dust. Great hops on a wheat base, making a great, bright brew which is both familiar and original going beyond the typical west coast IPA recipe.
