I run the meat department in a semi ghetto grocery store and I pushed them for a year to get this beer. It sells great now and I am way vindicated on my opinion that we could move this . The only grocery store beer I would even consider except SN Torpedo.
Sumpin is the best grocery store beer in this area. Beats sam an sierra and all the locals.

The beer looks, smells ,tastes, and feels high quality. Normally I spend too much on the best thing available but if I don't really Sumpin is just as satisfying. It's my session beer I guess. Good stuff, Lagunitas rules. (575 characters)

Don't be mislead by the desc, "American Pale Wheat Ale". This does not taste or look like a typical "rancid" wheat beer. It is dark and heavy and mysteriously smokey. 8/4/15 from a variety six pack from State Line Liquors. (222 characters)

I usually am not a huge fan of wheat beers, but I guess the rep on this one is that its wheat is basically hard to detect. That's to my advantage, because I find this to be delicious. Their Sucks used to be my favorite, but I believe its taste and quality lost something along the way of transforming from a seasonal to a ridiculous shelf-sitting 32 ouncer and then a new year-rounder. I wish bottled-on dates were prominent on their beers. But in any event, this one, I believe, is the perfect substitute. Indeed, this tastes like a super IPA. I think some reasonably have a basis to object on this basis to its label classification of a pale wheat. Still, regardless of what it's called, I think this is a great tasting brew (726 characters)

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, there is no "best by" date that I can find.

APPEARANCE: pours a hazy, dark gold color with one-finger white head that slowly dissipated until a thin, unbroken layer of bubbles remained, there is significant lacing on the glass, lighter carbonation.

SMELL: caramel, pepper, pine and bread.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet caramel then pepper, bread and a piney hop blast that really lingered, the 7.5% ABV is present but well disguised.

PALATE: medium body and lighter carbonation.

OVERALL: for an American Pale Wheat Ale this tasted a lot like a traditional IPA, whatever they want to call it is fine by me, this is a good beer and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the IPA style, if you are expecting a traditional wheat beer you may be disappointed. I would buy this again no problem. (877 characters)

Overall, I just liked this beer and that's about it. I got hints of northern pine forest and exotic orange peel from the most remote parts of the Amazon rain forest. No harshness, went down smooth. Lacing was like that of a June bride...I will definitely drink again. (267 characters)

I've heard so much about this ale, I'm finally glad I found it.

A : Honey yellow wheat color. The head is large and in charge. Webby, thick, dense, and white for miles. Leaves lacing upon lacing as it recedes. It stands at 3 fingers.

S : Holy pine. Lots of fresh pine. Pine cone. Sharp spiced aroma. If you really like good pine aroma in your beer, that isn't skunky or artificial - just natural and tons of clarity, this is it right here. Nice nose!

T : Seems to have all of the characteristics of a pale ale but several dense layers can be sampled and peeled back. First, there's the pale wheat and yeast, pricked with pine and hop. It mellows out some and morphs into a fruity finish. It seems to happen in steps and all at once at the same time. A sharp snap of fruit and pine on the last breath. For sure a dense taste profile full of character.

M : Creamy and full of explosive carbonation. Ends semi-dry and a bit dusty.

O : Impressive, I'd have it again, but it's probably not going to be a staple in my fridge as IPA's aren't generally my thing. (1,063 characters)

Is it just me, or do all Lagunitas taste pretty much the same? Like drinking a Xmas tree. This one was supposed to have some wheat in it....you'd never know by the taste. Not bitter, but very hoppy. Not worth the coin...unless you enjoy drinking pine flavored beer. I'm done with Lagunitas. (295 characters)

A pale wheat ale this is not. At 64 IBU, this is pretty firmly in the IPA category, and this beer is heavy on the hops. The hops are piney and citric, and though they are in no way harsh, they're really all you can taste here at all. It makes me wonder why they even bothered brewing this beer with wheat, because you really cannot taste any of it. You get a vague hint of it in the aftertaste, underneath all of the bitterness, but that's basically it. As an IPA, it's pretty good, though it lacks any sort of malt taste at all, which is something I prefer in my IPAs to balance out the hops. It's 7.5% ABV, and that alcohol is very well hidden here.

Good, but a little overrated in my opinion. (696 characters)

12 oz. bottle poured into weizen glass

L: clear, brilliant yellow that's darker (gold) at the edges (top and bottom of glass); head is not super tall, maybe 3/4-inch of white foam, but it is very thick and sticky, leaving a thick coat of suddsy white paint ; that coat of sticky foam slides back into the glass, and it doesn't lace much, but it does keep a thick skin and collar of white foam

S: mango, grass ... it's very, very sweet, almost sugary sweet, and the wheat is hard to notice, but it's in there -- a tart, grassy note; has a ton of American double IPA caramel/mango sweetness, maybe bleeding into candied orange/pineapple

T: bitter ... the rest follows the nose, mango, grass, sweet orange; again the wheat is hard to find, there's just a hint of tart grain

F: full but carbonated enough to stay crisp, dry

O: disappointing ... other than the slightest hints of tartness, this smells and tastes like an average American double IPA. the bitter bite is way too much for the style, too, and so is the sweet. if there is wheat in this brew, it's drowned dead and gone amid all the hops. (1,107 characters)

Look: Clear gold with a nice white head that leaves a decent amount of lacing
Smell: Classic citrusy and piney fresh hop aromas
Taste: Somewhat sweet, lightly fruity, a bit of that wheaty dry bitterness combines with citric acidity in the finish
Feel: Light bodied, somewhat effervescent mouthfeel

Overall: The wheat seems to serve mostly to lighten the body and provide a lighter carbonation, though there is what might be a hint of wheat in the palate as well. A very nice, lightly sweet IPA (498 characters)

A-Poured from a bottle to a pint glass, a copper/blonde tint and well carbonated, creamy white head.
S-Strong floral, citrus, orange, grapefruit aroma
T-A complex and wonderfully that produces such a unique and interesting taste profile. The malt has rich medium that's far better than many others in the category. It delivers a white bread biscuit type character. And then a well suited citrus orange notes balance it out. In addition, it has a slightly bitter but eminently pleasing finish.
M-Carbonation is more noticeable than other wheat beers and wheat body does provide pleasant and bready mouthfeel.
O-It's combination of wheat malt and hop balance I typically don't find in other wheat beers. It's so smooth, distinctive, and pleasing; a favorite indeed. (765 characters)

A -Frothy and slightly creamy white head that is slow to dissipate. Slow rising carbonation. Not a lot of carbonation. Slightly hazy and golden in color. Ever so slight amber tint. 4.25/5

S - Citrus/grapefruit up front. Light butter note and light malt backing to the grapefruit aroma. 4/5

T - Grapefruit/citrus hoppy main flavor. White bread malt flavor with a slight hint of butter. Lingering bitterness on the back end. Hops and bitterness dominate the flavor profile. 3.75/5

M - Medium bodied but retains a light summery feeling. Carbonation is noticeable but allows for the drinker to concentrate more on the flavor instead of the feel. 4.25/5

O - Good quality beer that has a ton of flavor. Major emphasis on the hops here which is no surprise. Definitely a good beer to go with spicy dishes. 4/5 (823 characters)

Pours a golden yellow with a half inch white head. Smells of tropical citrus hops, bread-y sweet malt, grapefruit, with a bit of grass and spice. Taste is light and complex with some peppery spice and grapefruit hop. It has a sweet malt and good amount of bitter. Light body with a moderate mouth feel. (302 characters)

I like this beer so much I was compelled to write a review. Has a great hoppy, almost citrus taste. Not usually biggest fan of citrus but this just works fantastically in this beer. There will always be room in my fridge for a six pack of this fine brew. (255 characters)

Poured from bottle into tulip, producing a generous amount of rocky white head with good retention and plenty o lacing. Golden colored, the aroma was something new and different in an entirely good way. There was citrus, but also a sweet bready aroma, every breath alternated between juicy APA goodness and Hefe estery sweetness. Smooth and medium bodied, nary a bitter bite. A big wheat ale with just enough hoppy goodness to make this one a standout. To be enjoyed again and again. (483 characters)

Very slightly hazy gold color with a substantial foamy white head that dissipates quickly leaving some decent lacing.

The aroma is citrus and yeast with a bready background.

The taste is hops up front, grapefruit, some slightly sweet fruitiness, light cracker background, coriander and black pepper at the finish, very nicely balanced and enjoyable.

Medium bodied, but smooth and very easy to drink.

Overall this is a very enjoyable ale, almost too drinkable. (467 characters)

1.79 for a 12 oz bottle from the super market

A-bright gold/orange, 3/4 of an inch of head the recedes after a few seconds

S-Definitely hop forward, notes of citrus and mango, faint but noticeable yeastyness synonymous with a wheat beer,

T-an explosion on the palette, citrusy/bitter hops leads into bright red fruits/black pepper finishing with slight malt sweetness and an enjoyable level of booziness. The black pepper notes seem to be more prominent as the beer warms in the glass.

M-smooth, full bodied, medium level of carbonation, pretty damn drinkable

O: Very, pleasantly surprised. I had enjoyed their IPAs in the past, but this blew them out of the water. Very refreshing with a multitude of flavor profiles. I think this beer would go perfect with some spicy indian food or heavily season smoked ribs. Definitely will be looking for more from Lagunitas. (870 characters)

I know of Lagunitas but didn't know the style on this one. Ordered it off a weak tap list. Awesome smell and flavor. If it is really a pale wheat as BA says it is amazing for the style. I should know better than to doubt Lagunitas (230 characters)

L: Foggy light gold, heavy head.

S: Citrus is right there and very forward, hoppy.

T/F: Balanced and varied. Hops is present throughout and very nice with the slight citrus. Mid body, smooth. Varied feel like the taste.

O: Though it has a great rating, I feel it is a looked over beer. Very nice enjoyed everyone of the six pack i had. I would buy again and again and even an extra just to give to others. Another winner from Lagunitas. (439 characters)

Poured from a bottle into pint glass in June 2015.

Appearance: Hazy light gold with almost white head. Head is very thick and sticks to the glass.

Smell: Strong citrus aroma, like grapefruits. Also get some hops and pepper aromas, but the citrus aroma dominate the others.

Taste: Nice balance and variety of flavors. There is a strong hops and citrus flavor but with a little pepper flavors as well. There is some sweetness too, and the hops do not dominate.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, and very smooth.

This is an interesting IPA. It has a nice mix of grapefruit, hops, and other flavors, which makes it interesting. I like the overall balance, and that the hops do not dominate the flavor. A very good ale. (715 characters)
