I heard a few good things about this beer but wasnt quite sure what style it was. Grabbed a 6pack and was very impressed.
A: Copper coloer with a foamy head that disappeared rather quik.
S: Very strong citrus hops hit my nose right away
T: Was not sur ewhat style this beer was until I was half way through my glass. Very suprised it is a wheat beer. Tastes more like an IPA. Citrus hops attacked my taste buds. Very hoppy.
M: Medium mouthfeel not too light and not too heavy
D: This beer tastes great but I feel the hops are very present and may slow you down after a lint or 2.

Pours a dark golden color, this is not a light summery wheat beer in appearance. Nice big fluffy head after a bit of a vigorous pour.

Talk about a blast of fresh hops coming from the head on this beer, wow. I am pretty sure the dudes at Lagunitas start each batch of beer with a mandatory 10lb sack of hops. This beer is very piney and resiny in the nose, a little bit of sweetness like pineapple is in there too...quite aromatic!

Taste is lots of fresh hop character, piney, citrusy, pineapply with some cotton candy sweetness to it as well. Call it what you will, I still think its up there with some of the IPAs I've had. The finish is a bit tangy and bitter dry but crisp and refreshing all the same.

Love this stuff, I wish it was around 5% as 7.3% is a little out of session range for me but I do like this "Summer" release more than most I've had.

Love the name too...

Appearance: Clear honey with a hint of rose. Clean white foam.

Smell: Distinct hop aroma with subtle grapefruit notes.

Taste: Light and bitter throughout with spice and citrus flavors.

Mouthfeel: Thin yet has tingly bite on the tongue.

Overall: A nice different IPA to drink on hot day. No heavy flavors jump out or overpower. Overall a recomendable beer.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip.

A: The appearance is an amber color with a thick foamy head which quickly disappears into a nice lacing that stays there until you finish it.

S: I think the smell is the best thing about this beer. The immediate smell I encountered was sweet pineapple, grapefruit, orange, tangerine, and a little nuttiness. Truly one of the best smelling beers I've ever had the pleasure of smelling.

T: Taste follows the nose with a little sweetness followed by a strong taste of grapefruit. There is also a tiny hint of pineapple but the grapefruit was definitely the main flavor. Leaves a small amount of bitterness every time you take a sip.

M: Very creamy and a bit oily.

O: I thought this beer was a fine example of why Laguanitas is one of the best craft beer producers around. Everything about this beer is spot on for the type of beer that it is. Although I personally didn't like the bitterness the aftertaste left, that is just my personal opinion. Would definitely recommend it if you like this style of beer.

Poured from bottle into pint glass...

A- Pours a nice orange color that is very clear and sits under a HUGE off white bubbly head. Leaves nice lacing spatially on the glass.

S- Very strong citrus aroma- just as I like it. Predominately grapefruit with some pineapple detected through a decent dosing of tangerine. Not any huge sweetness or bread-yness in the nose; but you can sense a nice malt backbone to support the hops.

T/M- The bitterness from the hops is very crisp. Quite refreshing. As far as hop flavor goes, the grapefruit takes the front stage and not as much other tropical fruit is detected on the tongue (would have liked the fruit complexity found in the aroma). The malt provides a decent biscuit layer that mends well with the medium body and medium carbonation.

D (shit I mean O)- This is a great beer. Considered a pale ale, but at 64 IBU and 7.5%, this drinks a little heavier IMO. I reviewed the last of my 6-pack (and not my first pack I've had) and thought I only had one left over to review, I have put down quite a few of these in one session. Great staple beer here, and though I try to be as subjective as possible, I will say that Litle Sumpin' Wild was a better overall beer than this by a little...

A - Mostly clear golden color. Not much head on the pour. Some lacing down the glass until the beer is gone

S - Orange and lemony. Some fresh cut grass too. Can smell the crisp hops.

T - Citrusy wheat ale with a nice hop kick. Good flavor! The alcohol is well hidden

M - Medium bodied and carbonation. A little thin to me.

O - A good a wheat pale ale. I would buy this again.

12oz bottle -> pint
no date

Pours a golden clear orange with a large fluffy quick receding head. Chunks of lace line the glass in patches. Carbonation is large and in charge.

Nose: FLoral, orange, some yeast, pale malts, lemon zest. Big hoppy nose. Love American styles!

Sweet pale malts add some biscuity tones. Hops smack you in the face with herbal citric stinginess and lingering bitterness. Thick for the style mouth, but kind of oil slicky. Drying.

Huge American wheat for you hop lovers out there, i know I enjoyed it and will again. Alas, if all wheat beers were this good, I wouldn't wish the cooler weren't so clogged with them this time of year. 7.3% could be dangerous.

Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, 2010

Rich golden color with a slight head. It has a subtle, but sweet, banana and peach flavor balanced out with a citrus hop finish. The mouthfeel is well balanced and refreshing. It wouldn't be something to be enjoyed in the winter, but on a hot summer day or a mild fall afternoon would be easily enjoyed one after the another after another.

I really love how different this is! It has the fresh citrus and pine notes of an IPA with smooth, mellow undertones of orange peel and vanilla. It feels like an IPA and wheat beer working together and it is such a good combination! The overall product is fresh and citrusy with a smooth creamy finish. I plan on buying this again very soon.

A: golden, very clear, looks like a good strong ale or lager. S: definitely the low light of this beer, get some sweet bready smell and some floral notes up front but it then turns to an almost sour urine smell, sorry but that's what I'm getting here :( T: up front has a familiar ale or strong lager taste, clean and wheaty, getting a real bready malty sweetness at the back of my mouth, finishes very bitter. M: pretty light, good carbonation, pretty dry from all the hops bite. O: Why did I wait so long to give this a shot, it's a good ale with some real hops bite.

Reviewed from notes on 9/3/10.

A: Pours a light straw-gold into a standard pint glass. A milky white one and a half finger head retains like crazy. Billows of carbonation plume up from the bottom of the glass. The lacing is a combination of clumps and splashy curves.

S: Fragrant and fresh pineapple and orange aromas drift out of the glass. I can tell that this is a wheat beer by the base aroma, but the hop presence is large and in charge. Sweet tropical fruit and citrus blend with a slight banana and clove wheat beer profile.

T: A nice, semi-bitter hop taste grips the sides of my palate for the length of the sip, while the sweet tropical fruit and citrus flavors release over my tongue. This is a very interesting collision between characteristics of a wheat beer and a hoppy APA or IPA. I like it - it's sweet, yet biting.

M: This is a crisp and light feel with a touch of creaminess and a lovely dry hop kick. The hops dry out the creamy sweetness of the beer for a palate cleansing dry finish.

D: Quite a take on a wheat ale and really a phenomenal idea. Douse a wheat ale with hops and see what happens. What happens is yumminess.

ST: Bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Hazy orange, gold with a thick white head that leaves beautiful lacing.

S: This beer has a wonderful aroma of grapefruit, lemon, vanilla, and slight bubblegum. Hops rule the smell though there are plenty of sweet tones.

T: Starts with slight bread but hops quickly take over and stay in the driver's seat. There is some mango and lemon followed by grapefruit. The finish has some bread return and a pleasant tinge of bitterness from the hops. Citrus and a herbal grassy taste lingers on the tongue.

M: Medium with nice carbonation.

Overall: This is a really great beer. It has a wonderful aroma, ripe and crisp fruity flavors that have enough bitterness to rein in sweetness, and it is not too heavy. However, the ABV is a tad bit heavy and, though you could enjoy a few of these in a row, you might regret drinking too many. This beer is perfect for sunny spring days that still have a bit of chill or dampness in the air.

crisp and golden, no cloudiness

funky wheat/ipa hybrid; cherries and salted almond brittle in the nose

taste is deceptive. feels like an ipa, has the bite of an ipa, but I can definitely see how it stems from a pale wheat/hefe tradition. to be honest, this is hard to label, it's unique and delicious.

the mouthfeel is superb: mellow and clean.

i like this beer. don't know how many i could drink in a row or if i'd have it often, but it's a good idea to throw a bottle of A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' into your rotation.

Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale - aww yeah

Appearance - Gold and sparkling. Head is brilliant white

Smell - Cascade like hops smell, citrusy and grapefruit

Taste - Big bitter than a nice fruity sweet that matches the smell well. I enjoyed the mellow aftertaste of coppery bitter.

Mouthfeel - Long lasting taste and medium carbonation.

Overall - This beer is so close to Dog Fish Head 90 min rating it is crazy. I would probably drink this one more due to the fruity scents but DFH had slight better carbonation.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a clear golden amber with one finger of fluffy white head.

The nose is mostly hops. Grapefruit and pine with a bit of grassyness. Only a slight hint of wheat.

Taste follows the nose: fruity hops dominate followed by a grassy/earthyness. Good malty sweetness follows the hops for a nice balance. Again, slight wheat in the flavor.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with little carbonation with a dry finish.

Drinkability is good. Not the best example of the style but very tasty in its own right. Definitely an enjoyable beer.

Pours a clear slight amber, golden color with a tight white head that leaves rings of lacing.

Smells of citrus hops. Are we sure this is a wheat?

Tastes of a good dose of citrus hops with some malt undertones. Hops are juicy grapefruits and lemon zest with some peppery spice to it. Fairly large amount of bitterness. Wheat is understated and supports the citrus bite from the hops. A little bit of sweetness from some crackery pale malt. Seriously, is this a wheat ale? Tastes a lot like a pale with some wheat malt added in. If nobody had mentioned the wheat, I would've glossed over it and focused on the hops.

Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.

A: Beautifully clear. Apricot in color with nice white head.

S: Nice aroma. Clean hops strong grapefruit, orange, and tangerine. Sweet with notes of pineapple. There is almost a honey type of aroma in it.

T: Clean bitterness, huge citrus, a hint of pine resin. And the finish is exceptionally clean. It seems to disappear leaving only a road runner style cloud of bitterness.

M: Medium in body, pretty dry. carbonation is a tad high for me, but I think it works.

D: Delicious. Just a good beer overall.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head pint glass

A - Bright gold, with a finger or so head. Decent lacing.

S - Tropical fruits (my wife swears its mango) with some spicy hops scent as well.

T - Peppery hops surrounded by grapefruit and citrus flavors. Not much malt to balance, the the hops flavor stands alone just fine.

M - light, well-carbonated, crisp and clean.

D - I could down a few of these easily. Easy to drink and enjoy with just about any meal.

A: Pours a clear golden with a generous white head. Good retention that fades to a thin covering but lasts. good lacing.

S: Floral, grapefruit and a bit of pine are in the forefront. Sweet fruity malt aroma springs through the hops. A bit of apple and pear.

T: A bit of pine and grapefruit but surprisingly more balanced than a typical IPA with a bright fruit, apple malt sweetness coming through whit just a hint of wheat. Very pleasant sweet finish balances the earthy pine and grapefruit aroma hops. A modest bittering charge doesn't overwhelm the palate.

M: Medium light body, a tiny bit slick. low to medium carbonation lets flavors shine. No astringency.

O: This is one of my favorites by Lagunitas. It has all the aroma hops of an IPA without a harsh bittering charge. A perfect example of an APA. Perfect balance of malt sweetness and hops. I like that the wheat doesn't take over the flavor but plays well with the other ingredients. Well done.

Poured from a stubby bottle into a pint glass

A- pours a transparent shade of orange with a quick fading, two finger white head. The head leaves decent lacing, and doesn't totally fade, leaving a nice haze on top of the beer. The beer isn't as translucent as some summer wheats, but not as hazy as a hefeweizen. Looks nice

S- getting lemony and citrus notes out of this one. Pretty standard for a wheat, though maybe a little more citrus than I'm typically used to

T- an odd quality for a wheat: it's got a great hoppy bite to it. The hoppy bite is balanced nicely by a slight sweetness from the citrus. It's pretty interesting, and good

M- it's actually a little too thick for me. I like my wheats to be paper thin and super refreshing...this is a little too syrupy for my tastes

O- damn good wheat beer. I love the hoppiness that comes to the table in this one

Pours a hazy dark gold with a huge, frothy, sticky eggshell head that does not seem to reduce. The smell is a grapefruit bomb -- like sticking your nose into a huge vat of fresh-squeezed ruby red. Delicious but not a lot else present there. Very hoppy brew -- mostly cascades -- big grapefruit presence like in the aroma. But overbalanced by an enormously sweet maltiness -- perhaps too sweet. Not very wheaty. And though it has wheat, it's much more akin to a DIPA than a "Pale Wheat Ale." Mouthfeel is somewhat chewy with a good spritely tingle at the end. A little too cloyingly sweet and a little too big to session. Overall a good beer.

Poured into pint glass. Pours a nice clear golden color with thick white head, good retention and great lacing. Smell is of citric hops with some orange and lemon. Very much like a good West Coast IPA. Taste was similar. A dry wheat/straw taste at first followed by a citrusy hop kick on the back of the tongue. A velvety smooth mouthfeel with a slightly oily aftertaste. Overall a great beer and easy drinker. This almost could be confused for an IPA if you ask me.
