2/8- Mo Dailey Draft (Chicago) - Very good IPA offering by Lagunitas. Nice blend of taste and strength, went down smooth. Had a few when all was said and done, and I look forward to having this beer again down the road.

Appearance: golden color with a 2" head that slowly fell to a spotty surface covering. Some lace show on the glass.

Smell: some soft citrus and floral tones come through to the nose.

Taste: mild malt sweetness with some wheat tones in the background. Oranges, a hint of lemon zest, and a floral hop presence rounds out the flavor profile.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp throughout. Refreshing. Short lasting aftertaste.

Overall: this is a beer you go to for a nice refreshing and full flavored beer.

Not a fan of bitter beers, this one reminded me of carrots. However, take the bitterness away and its a great beer. That's good news for bitter beer lovers

This beer has a special place in my heart, because it was the beer that turned me on to IPAs. They say that hoppy beers are an acquired taste and this is mostly true. I had been a fan of wheat beers and Belgian Ales, but after trying this one for the first time a couple years ago I was hooked. I realized that I had wasted years sipping on flat toned wimpy beers for people with no advanced flavor receptors nor an appreciation for subtle nuances in IPAs that you would never detect in the non-IPA beers. This is one of my go-to beers and is refreshing and crisp any time of the year.

A-The appearance is a light golden yellow and very clear. I think that the appearance of this one is great. It has a plethora of tiny bubbles that immediately ascend to the surface making for a moderate 1.5 finger head. The head will only slowly disappear, but usually even once I’ve finished the beer, there is plenty of lacing on the glass and a thin head to tickle your lips on you last refreshing sip.

S-The smell is amazing. It has a honey based malt background, but only slightly which gives way into an herbal hop aroma. The malt is definitely honey based, but I am getting a toasty cracker aroma slightly also. The smell is punctuated with a great rose petal and herbal flavor and only a hint of some citrus which you get in the flavor, which I’ll talk about next.

T-The taste of this beer is amazing. It has a delayed release of the piney hoppiness that is so crisp and refreshing. At the end you get a surge of orange peel zest that makes for a perfect finish to this flavorful beer. I also get hints of honey-based malt and a floral herbal flavor. The honey-like maltiness is perfectly cut by the alcohol content which is a respectable 7.5% ABV. What’s really nice is that I noticed that the orange peel zest comes at the same time as the herbal floral and rose petal flavors. A very dynamic beer that every beer enthusiast should try!

M-The mouthfeel is excellent. A very smooth and crisp beer gives way to a delayed tingling from the perfectly fine tuned carbonation. The little bubbles can only be described as effervescent and come right at the end when the zesty orange citrus flavors are at their peak.

O-Overall I will say that this is an excellent beer. It is so refreshing so make sure you drink it very cold and also pour it into a worthy glass. The glass allows any beer’s characteristics to shine through and this beer is amazing. The color is much lighter and more of a yellow-golden than other IPAs that I have reviewed like Rebel Rouser from Sam Adams and Rampant IPA by New Belgium. Those beers are amazing too, but this one is different, because it focuses on the floral and piney citrus flavors more than other IPAs.

Pours clear gold. No foreshadowing of what’s to come. Aroma has a sharp distinctive perfume/medicinal bent, strangely reminiscent of my girlfriend's house. Though I have a strong olfactory sense, this aroma does not translate. The taste is semisweet, with caramel and wheat flavors. I have no idea what style this brew indicates – per usual from Lagunitas – but it’s delicious!
