Pours a semi-transparent gold with a thick white head. Smells of citrus zest, tropical fruits, and flowers with a touch of pepper. The taste is similar to the aroma with some added hints of apple; it's also a tad spicy and slightly bitter. The malt is there but very faint. It's crisp, refreshing, and not boozy at all, especially considering the high ABV. For $8.99 a 6 pk, this is too good to be true! (408 characters)

This beer is more towards a orange citrus IPA treat but with some wheat that is there but not full front and center. It's delicious and smells wonderful out of a mason jar with jimi hendrix spinning under a needle. (214 characters)

This is just great beer. Something refreshingly different. It may be a little sweet for some but for me it makes for a great session beer. Just enough hoppy bitterness to react well with the sweet flavor. This is the best beer I have had from lagunitas so far. It hides the 7.5% abv almost to well. (298 characters)

Pours a clear yellow color with at least an inch of a white head. The head dissipates fairly quickly, leaving behind some lacing.

Fairly intense smell to it, quite a bit of hops there. Seems to be pine, citrus, and floral notes.

Starts out with a bit of malt and citrus. Little bit of grassy flavors, maybe a hint of wheat. Has a bit of a pine like aftertaste, the bitterness lingering after I swallow.

Solid smooth feel to it, goes down fairly smoothly.

Not being a hop head, I was a bit concerned about this one, but I found it a nice beer. There is a very definite hops presence there, but not to the point of dominating the beer so much that they are all you can taste. It kind of bridges the gap between a full on IPA and something less hoppy. I am still not a hop head, but this is one hops heavy beer I wouldn't mind having again. (841 characters)

I'm not normally a fan of very hoppy beers but this is a great example of flavor and crisp bite. You can smell the layers of hops right from the start but the sharp taste makes this an excellent beer.. (201 characters)

Medium hop. Smells more citrusy and spicy, not alcohol smell which is surprising for higher level. Little too citrusy of a hop for me, need more of a smooth aftertaste rather than grapefruit notes. Enjoyable beer overall (220 characters)

Poured from 12oz bottle into tall Heifen glass.

A: Clear golden color, topped by huge white foam that hangs on forever. It leaves behind a generous lace. After pouring only carbonation visible when taking a sip.

S: Great floral smell of hops, fruit and a hint of honey.

T: Taste follows smell with great balance between the bitter, flavor hops and malt sweetness.

M: Medium-low mouthfeel, with alcohol well hidden, low carbonation.

O: Very drinkable, well-balanced and flavorful beer. (489 characters)

Do people really find these pretentious reviews helpful?? One sounded like someone trying to be hip at a "Poetry Slam" ..... anyway....

The beer.

Look - Its got a nice Dark Golden color. Decent head, 1-2 fingers, very white. Decent lacing.

Nose - Spicy, floral, piney. Not much alcohol comes through which is surprising due to its high ABV. Not too hoppy on the nose, but they are there, mostly early addition hops for bittering.

Taste - Citrus bomb! Like Grapefruit?? Your gonna love this! Its solid grapefruit with pine and floral notes. Medium hopiness. Its a sleeper IPA.

Overall - It drinks well, not overly carbonated, nice mouth feel, not too filling. Good beer. Its definitely a different wheat beer. (714 characters)

Slightly misty golden, small white head.
Smell of pineapple, mango, sweeter grapefruit, salty buttered biscuits, caramel glazed peach.
Sweet malty goodness, caramel, hints of honey, sweet orange and tropical fruit (mostly some mango pulp). Grapefruit peel and pine, nice and hoppy with a long finish, just mildly bitter to slowly tone down the sweetness.
Aftertaste is hoppy, lingering mellow malt sweetness, still keeping those tropical hints. Pinch of salt. Medium body and carbonation, a tiny bit sticky,
A really solid wheat ale, with some complexity and quite intense. One of the best i've ever had. (604 characters)

Loved the aromas of berries and floral tones. Right in my wheelhouse. The taste does pair with the smell very well. Bitter hops that fades to smooth crisp finish. Not overly sweet which helps in the fact that i'm able to drink a few at a time and not get sick of the beer. Overall it is a beer I like to keep in the frig on a regular basis if i can find it. Very good Lagunitas. (385 characters)

Served: 11 January 2015

Appearance: Pours a bright golden color with a touch of haze, but not too much. Brilliant white head that leaves great lacing.

Smell: Huge citrus hop burst, with a touch of pine and grapefruit bitterness.

Taste: Soft sweet malts smoothed by a kiss of banana notes from the wheat and yeast, but overall a hoppy beer with lots of citrus notes. Very refreshing, even at 7.5%.

Mouthfeel: Soft and silky on the tongue with medium body and effervescent carbonation.

Overall: One of the best hoppy wheats I've had, and substantially better than the overhyped Gumballhead. Highly recommended. (613 characters)

A - Pours golden with a half finger of foamy white head. Nice solid soapy lacing.
S - Amazing, I can smell this from the bottle. Hops, sweet citrus, pineapple, grapefruit and lime.
T - Sweet citrus, grapefruit and pineapple, lighter underlying fruits like apple and lime. Finishes slightly bitter. Light medium body and mouthfeel. Excellent.
O - An amazing, unique tasting ale.
V - Medium. (393 characters)

For when you're looking for something heavy that is affordable, well made and really drinkable, drink 'Sumpin Ale. It's just spot on for providing a nice hop aroma without overwhelming a really clean malt flavor. The body is just fabulous, as is the ABV. I don't find it boozy either. It's really well balanced. (316 characters)

Now that I am in the southwestern US I've been looking for an alternative to Peak Organic Summer Ale, which I love. This is a very good beer but not quite what I was looking for, i will grab another six and try it again. I will still keep searching for something similar to the Peak Organic though. (300 characters)

The smell of spiced fruit and orange peel follow immediately into the flavor up front that turns into a great, smooth but dry bitter finish. Another from Lagunitas that doesn't disappoint. (189 characters)

A beautiful looking pale ale! Golden yellow translucent body with a minimal egg white head. Pine hops punch through other clean/soapy smells, hinting at a very refreshing brew. Tastes of lemon, orange, and pear juices. Possibly some biscuity malts there, but piney hops overtake the taste buds before there's any chance of balance. Feels light and refreshing. Subtle carbonated and somewhat creamy. Overall, one of the most refreshing wheat beers I've had, but not enough hop/malt balance for my liking. I was hoping the malts would come out towards the end, as citrusy hops dominated everything, but no dice :/ Still, Little Sumpin' is one tasty Lagunitas brew worth trying. (675 characters)

Wife has a 90 minute every night. I picked up this Ca beer in Miami last week and super clean. Nice IBU's and ABV. Hate to type it but a "mini" 90 min IPA? Tonight, I am sticking to Founders Dirty Bastard, Centennial and Breakfast Stout. Happy New Years! (254 characters)

Pours a golden amber color with moderate head which shrinks down slowly and a small amount remains.

Smells off wheat and piney, floral hops.

Tastes very much like an IPA with piney and floral hops, with a very noticeable amount of wheat. Very different than most wheat ales, as it's really a wheat IPA, and Lagunitas pulled this off very well.

Moderate body and moderately carbonated. Goes down smoothly, and among the smoothest I've had from Lagunitas.

Overall, this is a great beer and probably my favorite from Lagunitas as well, who I am quite the fan of. I tried this for the first time on thanksgiving and drank it with my brother in law and we both absolutely loved this brew and have since bought it again. (721 characters)

Didn't know what kind of Ale this was supposed to be when I bought it. First whiff and I said, "oh, a light IPA." Then I tasted it. What the heck, this ain't no IPA. Is it? Could it be? A wheat beer? But I don't really like wheat beers. An orange, pineapple, piney sweetness came through that was unexpected and fantastic. Hops are there, but really balanced with the other flavors. This beer is complex, smooth, and extremely drinkable. I wish I had more than just the single I bought. Definitely buying more of this soon (551 characters)

A - Pours golden, nice big fat head prob cuz I poured it fast.
S - Nose is beautiful - bubblegum, some floral hops, honey, the lightest touch of alcohol to the nose but had to dig to get it. Definite bubblegum on the nose.
T - Taste is very clean, the wheat is light and sets the background to prop up the other flavors. Wow getting some dank, resiny weed-like flavor coming through, some hop bitterness, a bit of pine. Little in the way of barley malt. Definite hop resin flavor that plays beautifully with the light bubblegum flavors. Gonna let it warm a tad and see where it takes me.
Doesn't improve as it warms, but doesn't get worse. An interesting light bitter tang at the end, and the wheat was a great touch as it really let the other flavors come through. Loving this bubblegum smell and flavor, need to know how that's done.
O - Overall an amazing, almost too drinkable IPAish wheat beer. New fav. (912 characters)

Mostly clear yellow-amber pour with a fluffy two finger pure white head with great retention and lacing. Wonderful perfumey, flowery, citrus nose with hints of tangerine, grapefruit, floral hops, pine, caramel, and brown sugar. The taste mirrors the nose with tons of floral, perfumey hoppiness along with hints of grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, pine, caramel, lemon zest, grass, and brown sugar. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with fizzy carbonation, incredible balance, and a great tangy-sweet finish. Overall, this is a hugely drinkable beer that's full of flavor that I could definitely drink on a regular basis. (625 characters)

L (4.25) - This beer pours a nice dark golden color. A little more orange than red. Nice layer of head on top. Surprisingly clear, which I wasn't expecting.

S (5) – Smells fantastic. Get a little pine smell and some bitter/tangy smells. Makes you immediately want to dive in.

T (4.25) – Really good taste. You get that upfront bitter, and that same piney taste at the end. It almost has a better aftertaste than taste. And that’s no insult! I didn’t get a lot of malt or grain taste. I like a little bit of that to balance the hops.

F (4) – Good mouthfeel. Thin and light on the tongue. Appropriate carb level, IMO

O (4.25) – Very good beer overall. I only had one, and really wanted another. I don’t know if I’d want to drink it all the time, but I will add it to my regular rotation. (820 characters)

The aroma is largely characterized by pine needles with a fruity edge: resin with grape and pineapple and a slightly doughy undertone. It has an eggshell-white head with a clear, light golden body; lots of lacing sticks around. The flavor is citrusy with a spicy bitterness and is reminiscent of pine needles, orange rind, and grapefruit, along with some doughiness that rounds out the flavor a little. The mouthfeel is rather crisp and medium-light in body with moderate carbonation.

Overall, the flavors don't seem to mesh very well; the citrus-like flavors and bitterness seem very stark. On the other hand, it has the intense hop character of an IPA with a discernible malt influence which comes across as soft and bread-like. The hops are citrusy and bitter, siding with grapefruit, lemon, and lime without the rounding influence of some sweeter, tarter orange, etc. (873 characters)

I wish there where more ales like these! Very hoppy aroma but is surprisingly smooth on flavor. Herby flavors but not overwhelming. Excellent balance is all I have to say about this brew. (187 characters)

Perfect beer in my opinion. Nose is wonderful, rich, sharp hop aroma with a bit of wheat. Flavor is on point - buttery smooth, hop and wheat flavors are so good in combination. I could drink this all day and night. A real gem from Lagunitas. (248 characters)
