Poured into a Tulip from the bottle

Rich golden color very clean and crisp, laceing is thick after the head disapates.

There is sooo much going on with this beer in the nose. Very floral and grassy hops with a ton of spices in the undertones. Apricot and very bitter citrus, lemon peel and grapefruit.

Flavor is very bitter hops and citrus. Alcohol blends into the finish very well. Grassy, very earthy and extremly complex.

Mouthfeel is a little thin and maybe just a tad over carbonated. goes down very easy.

For near 9% and 73 IBU this beer goes down like silk and I could sit and drink them all day long. One of my favorite new beers I have had in a long time and at 3.99 a bottle just fantastic!

A: Pours a fairly transparent copper orange. Finger of bleached wifebeater colored head. Carbonation is moderate, with a small amount of bubbles rising to the surface. Head retention is moderate. Lacing is moderate.

S: Big ole citrus. Lots of grapefruit, a little lemon, maybe a touch of meyer's lemon as well. Small amount of dankness underneath. Even smaller amount of garlic/onion/b.o. underneath that.

T: Decent sized rush of bitterness up front. Huge hit of tangerine and orange immediately follows. Slightly floral, but with bruising orange notes. The wheat becomes more apparent mid palate, taking on a honeyed characterstic. Sweet tropical notes also present in here as well. Lots of pineapple juice. Malt takes on a graham cracker like character, which only adds to the perceived sweetness. Finishes with more of the sugared orange/grapefruit characteristic. The citrus here is not at all harsh. Nor is this beer particularly bitter, even at 65 IBU's.

M: This one seems a bit heavy. Whereas the Lil Sumpin Sumpin Ale was light and pillowy, this one seems to be weighed down by the sweetness involved. A lack of carbonation support seems to exacerbate this feeling of sweet flatness.

O: Great hop flavors, but this one seems to lack the balance of its little brother. The citric tones never quite assert themselves, so the overall impression is that this beer falls on the sweeter side. This is compounded with the slightly heavier malt bill. Overall, the beer is still amazing, but it lacks the balance and assertiveness that standard LSS offers.

I am a big fan of Little Sumpin' Sumpin' so it was a natural choice for me to give this a try. My wife, who isn't an IPA fan, likes to have a few sips of this one. It has a great hop character with a lot of grapefruit flavor up front from the hops. The beer pours well and retained its head all the way to the bottom of the glass. I like this beer, but without comparing them side by side, I can't see the big difference between the regular Sumpin Sumpin and the extra. That's not to say that there isn't a difference, but it didn't jump out at me. That said, I'd drink it again (and again)
