22 oz. into a snifter
P: Cloudy gold with 3 fingers of white, soapy yet firmly-packed foam for a crown. Showed outstanding retention, then deflated to a thick collar of crust and left some sticky sheets of lacing as it did.
A: Big, scrumptious waves of citrusy, tropical fruits bombard my nose, while pine is easily appreciated in its secondary role. Pale malt sweetness is buried underneath, and takes some time and effort to uncover it. Impressive power and strength, yet enough finesse to please even my wife, who hates hoppy beers!
T: That great tropical fruit aroma transfers itself nicely to the palate with deep, citrusy notes of grapefruit, oranges, pineapples, and melons, with a little weed funk thrown in for good measure! The resinous pine never shies away from grabbing your attention, either, as it tingles the tongue with a little spicy kick on the back end. The big hop bill is supported nicely by a sugar cookie-like malt sweetness and creamy caramel that only hints at balance by managing to stay out of the way for the most part. It tastes like the toasted malt has some wheat that helps the hops dry things out considerably on the finish. I really love this!
M: Medium-full bodied with a smooth and creamy, sticky and dry feel that suits the deep, enticing flavor quite nicely.
Notes: Well, I really liked the Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, but I flat-out love this Lil' Sumpin Extra! The hop profile is right up my alley, as I love my DIPA's to boast that tropical fruit vibe that just really hits my sweet spot. Highly recommended!

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and golden orange in color with an off-white 2-finger head. Good retention, resulting in a thin layer of surface suds. Fair lacing around the glass, with good stick.
Smell - Strong citrus notes consisting of grapefuit and orange,
Taste - Follows the nose. Red grapefruit and orange citrus character, along with a consistent pine resin undertone. Malty sweetness that comes across as juicy with a hint of pineapple. Finishes with mild citrus pith.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, velvety texture. Goes down with relative easy.
Overall - I did a side-by side with both Sumpin' and the Extra Sumpin', and aside from this being slightly darker in color, slightly maltier and slightly more dank, they are virtually the same beer... so I don't see the point in releasing this one. It's good, but just another "Nickelback song" by Lagunitas in their continuing drive to put out new releases that taste virtually the same as the vast majority of their line-up.
