bomber into pint glass.

A: Dark brown with a slightly red tint. Despite very aggressive pour only half a finger of cream colored head that became a bubbely ring around the outside. Decent lacing.

S: Citrusy hops right away on the nose. Not getting much else off of it even after a swirl.

T: Hops again just like the nose. Like iced hop tea. Not even getting the malt through on this one. Not bad but not much there.

M: medium bodied, not really heavy (expected from lack of malt flavor it must be lightly malted) and kinda wet. Yes I know it is 92.17% water so it will in fact be wet. This as it warms in the mouth so it finishes light.

O: If you like super hoppy beers like IPA then this strong ale is for you. Not my cup of tea (or glass of beer as it were) but all in all it is a decent beer. Nothing offensive and bad about it, not super complex but not boring. The hop character of it reminds me of A Lil' Sumptin Sumptin also from Lagunitas.

Edit: I was drinking it over a a long period while playing video games. As it warmed the hoppyness became less overpowering and the unique flavors of the brown malt come through. The claim on the bottle "robust" and "malty" are realized closer to room temp. Should be served warm, not sure what I was thinking drinking a double at fridge temp. Changed taste and mouthfeel from 3.0 to 3.5 because it thickened up a touch and got roastier.

Pours clear brown with copper red highlights. A large dirty light tan head leaves plenty of lacing and stays still the finish.

Smell is of deep warm caramel malts, piney hops, and a hint of sweetness.

Taste is roasted sweet malt up front, changing over to some pine and pith on the finish. Good balance.

The beer is medium bodied, yet quite drinkable and smooth. Carbonation is fine, nothing special or bad...

A darn fine beer, kind of like ABA, but not quite as bold.

Bomber poured into pint glass.

A: Clear reddish-tinged brown with a sizable offwhite head. Good retention..lots of visible carbonation.

S: Caramel malts and piney-hops are prevalent here.

T: A bit less hoppy than the smell would lead you to believe, but still standard Lagunitas fare. Most of the taste profile is dominated by a rich, malty caramel and hints of plum, raisin, and other dark fruit. The hops make their way in toward the end, focusing more on the pine aspect. A bit of grapefruit lends some depth.

M: Surprisingly drinkable. It's medium, almost light, bodied. Good amount of carbonation. Very wet. Appropriate for a spring release.

O: $4.99 for this amount of depth and hoppy goodness. Enough said.

Pours a brownish amber into a pint glass. A very clear beer.

The smell is a lot more hoppy then I had thought it would be. I get some fruit, grapefruit, passion fruit and a decent amount of malt.

The taste is classic Lagunitas. Nice hope bite but that does not steal the show, nice tropical fruits, toffee, caramel, tea, honey and a touch of something else I can not identify...

Mouthfeel is a bit thin and over carbonated for my palate...

Well at 3.99 a bomber this is a steal like most Lagunitas beers. If you are not drinking beers from this brewery there is something wrong with you.

Pours a translucent amber copper with a foamy light tan head. The head dissipates quickly, but laces the glass as the beer is consumed. The aromatics are pleasant and tantalizing with a sweet grapefruit and brewed tea bouquet that also yields mild notes of pine needles. The pine shows up more on the palate. The scrubbiness on the tongue could be less. A slicker, wetter mouthfeel could have improved the experience on the palate. Sweet grapefruit makes an appearance. Finishes quite bitter. A good beer, but not fantastic.

bomber into an oversized wine glass

Ap- dark amber/brown in color. 1 inch white head has decent retention. Beer is quite clear but still hard to see through

Ar- some dark fruit, roasty malt and piney hops. A wee bit of alcohol.

T- dark roasted malts, dark fruit, a bit of a caramel, the piney hops kick in on the back end of this one.

M- medium body, perfect carbonation for the style...not much else to say

O- solid beer. glad I tried it but probably won't seek it out again unless its on the out of date/clearance rack.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter

A: The beer is a dark but clear amber brown color. There is a bubbly off-white head of 1.5 fingers with moderate retention.

S: Smells sweet and fruity. Some tropical fruit like pineapple comes to the nose, along with brown and caramel malts. There is just a hint of pine in the background.

T: Warm brown malt is center here. Toffee, brown sugar, and caramel. Still fairly fruity. Less pineapple and more of a wider range of tropical fruits including some citrus. Finish is an earthy pine flavor with a hint of alcohol heat.

M: Medium bodied but lighter than I expected an "Imperial Brown Ale" to feel. The carbonation is moderate to light and fairly soft. Alcohol heat is present but mild, even at warmer temperatures.

O: An excellent purchase for $4.50 a bomber. Fruitier and lighter than anticipated, with good drinkability. A well balanced and sweetly fruity beer.
