Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter.
Appearance: a dark brown cola colored with a fingers worth of off white head that leaves rings of lacing as I drink it.
Smells: I smell a mild hop note with subtle yet dominate malt backbone.
Tastes: this is a smooth strong ale. The balance is great with a pungent bitter hop that has a balanced malt character that is quite a surprise from a Lagunitas in my opinion.
Mouthfeel: this is a carbonated ale that doesn't have much of a burn from the close to 7%. I enjoyed this brew and pairs well with turkey or a thanksgiving meal.
Overall: not my favorite from Lagunitas even though this is a solid brew. I will buy it again next year, just not my favorite American strong ale especially $9.99 for a 22oz bottle.

22 oz bottle into Deschutes tulip snifter
A - Nice and foamy. Nice lacing, good retention. Off-white clouds float on top of a deep red beer. Hold it up to the light and go "Ooh, ah," because the clarity is glowing and beautiful. Really, try it. It's fun.
S - Resiny hops, sweet grapefruit, citrus rind, dankness backed with dark malts. And something that reminds me of slightly burnt caramel corn. Quite good.
T - Beautiful bitterness, but I don't get as much complexity in the flavor. Aroma is pretty key to this beer - choose your glass accordingly. Still, there is a nice hop presence of grass and citrus rind, and hints of those elements listed for the aroma. A bit more of those dark malts - almost like fresh roasted coffee in the background.
M - Perhaps a tad watery, but the bitterness creates a really enjoyable tingling mouthfeel. Nicely carbonated. Feels good.
O - Oh, I like this one a lot. The story of the name is pretty cool, and my favorite American band is probably Wilco. So, it all adds up on top of this being a GREAT beer, to being a really fun drinking experience. I recommend drinking it warmer, at least 50 degrees. But, it's also good cold. And make sure you pour it in a glass that will emphasize the aroma. And enjoy.
